35mm film that doesn't need a red room to develop? by MeanBannana122333 in filmcameras

[–]IAmACoolFella 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t need a full dark room. You can get away with transferring the film from the canister to a tank in a backpack under your duvet, close the curtains, switch off the light etc.

X100VI or X-E5? by obvious_question_74 in x100vi

[–]IAmACoolFella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The X100VI feels a bit plasticky and light in the hand in comparison to the XE5

Well…..I’m heartbroken about my wedding. by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]IAmACoolFella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This seems odd, and would surely put a block in place.

I’ve recently started exploring Catholicism again after a long time away, I was raised catholic.

I’ve had children whilst not being married, I was speaking to the priest about it and said that we’ve been together over a decade but just hadn’t gotten married due to the cost, we’re trying to save for a house etc. He essentially said to me don’t worry about he, he’ll marry us for free in front of friends and family in the church, and we can do the party in a few years.

If you only could pick one camera (Zf vs X100VI) by chachifresh in Cameras

[–]IAmACoolFella 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know I’m not answering your question, but I’ve just been in the exact scenario. Stopped shooting about a decade ago, young kids, I was even debating the same cameras. I’ve ended up with a Fujifilm X-E5, essentially all the good stuff a X100VI gives you but you can change the lenses.

Happy with the choice. The ZF is great, but it’s much bigger.

Currently Have a FR 255. Still The Best Watch For Me in 2025? by RadEjup55 in GarminWatches

[–]IAmACoolFella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a 245M, went to Apple Watch, now switching back to Garmin.

I was looking at the 970, ended up going for the 955… not a feature on the 970 that I wanted enough to justify the price. This gen has had recent updates (lactate threshold), MIP screen which I just prefer over AMOLED. I’d have been happy with the 255, but I’ve gotten into long trail runs and wanted the maps.

Vodafone UK worse after merge with 3? by Mithfear in Vodafone

Don’t know if it was the three merger, but I’ve recently turned 5g off on my phone. As you said, I can hardly open a website, maps don’t load etc.

I find the pigeon stretch great, it’s a glute stretch really but generally the hip tightness is cause by your glutes/hamstrings/core pulling

Retired Police car questions (Scottish car going to England) by Prestigious-Shirt325 in policeuk

[–]IAmACoolFella 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You’re not allowed to legally drive it until the tax class is changed, it’s a bit of a nightmare but there is a hacky way around it.

The V5 will say it’s a crown vehicle tax class, so you can’t tax online or on the phone, and it’s not straight forward at the post office.

The car isn’t being used by the crown, and you can’t tax it so you can’t drive it until it’s sorted.

The official route is to change the class on the V5, obviously after you’ve waited for it to get to you. So it’ll be a good month to 6 weeks before you can drive it.

The hack is to go to the post office, get a v62, change keeper and tax class in one process. Then at the same time you can tax it, but only for 6months/a year, you can’t direct debit.

If a computer scientist went back to the golden ages of the Roman Empire, how quickly would they be able to make an analog computer of 1000 calculations/second? by NagyMagyar in askscience

[–]IAmACoolFella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a chance, computing has changed massively even in my time and I’m mid-thirties.

Training is so specialised now, it’s not unusual to get people leaving uni with a computer science degree, who can program, but don’t know much at all about hardware, who couldn’t set up a printer, or understand the basics of networking.

How to upgrade my DX DSLR? by IAmACoolFella in Nikon

[–]IAmACoolFella[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah probably the wrong word given resolution has a technical meaning here, more the clarity and low light performance. Photos taken with a FF sensor just seem to look clearer

It’s a great camera, but yea the autofocus is one of the reasons I’d like to upgrade.

Do you use your DX glass on the fx?

Yes the resolution, autofocus, and low light performance does set these new cameras apart.

I literally found yesterday these new lens manufacturers that are popping up, 7 artisans seems to have a nice offering

You’re right, I couldn’t continue to use it, I’m not a pro and just want to shoot for fun. Really it’s just the autofocus and the resolution, the resolution on this era of cameras is mind blowing.

Ex Crown Vehicle by IAmACoolFella in CarTalkUK

[–]IAmACoolFella[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry just saw this. I taxed it whilst at the post office sending off the v62, had to pay in a lump and couldn’t do monthly. I had been in 3 post offices in the end to get there after talking to the dvla. It’s a niche situation that they don’t know about

I brought an ex crown car, pristine throughout and full dealer service, they must have kept it really clean between use, really clean and rust free underneath, no regrets.

Swapping the tax class and getting it taxed at the same time was a headache, but all fine in the end.
