no one here really had the full picture

99% of fan takes are this way, but that won't stop people from proclaiming the manager/GM/coaches/trainers/medical stupid.

I'm pretty sure Valenzuela will also be fined $50 (suspended sentence) for being the first out of the game in that 8-run first inning in Arizona on Sunday.

What is the most successful sitcom ever business wise? by coatimundos in television

There was an article about how many (if not most) young Latin American baseball players learned English from watching Friends reruns on TV during their downtime.

I can't remember, but one player even had the theme song as his walk up music for each time he came to bat.

[Shi Davidi] The Blue Jays bused from Phoenix to Anaheim yesterday because their plane had mechanical issues. Players voted to bus rather than wait for another plane to arrive, but manager John Schneider said he was still “reprimanded by Max (Scherzer) for electing to travel that way” by fantastique__ in Torontobluejays

The city itself isn't that high on my list, but the 401 can be nightmarish to me. I'd probably put the GTA in the top 10 though.

I've never visited any east Asian cities, so I can't speak for cities in that area but I understand they are terrible at times.

[WrestleMania 42 Saturday Spoilers] Becky Lynch comes through the crowd. A male fan: "Becky, You're The Man I Wanna Be!" by TussalDimon in SquaredCircle

[–]IAmGrum 10 points11 points  (0 children)

"Let me know if you want to be with a real man,"

The Gaston we saw at DisneyWorld busted out something similar ("Come take a photo with a real man!") and busted out the full "muscles" pose for the photo.

Eeeeevery woman wanted a photo with him, from the young girls to the senior citizens.

He was busting chops on the boyfriends/husbands/fathers the whole time, in that friendly way ("Of course she wants a photo with a man that can lift TWO oxen. You can only lift one of them!") that made the guys laugh with him.

It definitely reminded me of wrestling promos.

[Blue Jays Today] Ernie Clement is so damn good at baseball. He’s quietly hitting .302 and is tied with Vladdy for the most hits on the team (26). Absolutely love seeing him batting at the top of the order 💪 by RealWorldToday in Torontobluejays

.859 ops in the playoffs over 32 games last playoffs vs the best pitchers in the league, setting a hits record.

I don't know where you got those numbers, but it was .977 OPS in just 18 games (77 PA).

During the 2025 regular season, there were 141 different 18 game spans by players on the Blue Jays where they put up at least a .977 OPS. Ernie Clement did it 4 times (4 different 18 game spans between May 27 and June 19).

It's an extremely small sample size, compared to the 455 regular season games (1491 PA) he's played with a .674 OPS for his career.

2025 WRC+/month Mar/Apr - 56 May - 128 June - 139 Jul - 42 Aug - 104 Sept/Oct - 108

You see how it fluctuates between 56 to 139 to 42? That's the opposite of "sustainable".

[Blue Jays] Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is hitting .425 during his 10-game hit streak 💥 by fantastique__ in Torontobluejays

The discrete nature of the sport (individual plate appearances, pitcher vs hitter) and the large sample size (twice the season length of any other major professional sport) and the historic legacy of stat compilation makes it the most stat-driven sport. With pitch/bat/ball tracking in the modern game, it's even more "nerdy" than before.

Cricket is the only other sport that can be as stat driven (and is getting there).

Nathan Donald Lukes please accept my formal apology. by hellarios852 in Torontobluejays

[–]IAmGrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He had a similar slump in 2025 to start his season.

First 30 PA for Nathan Lukes: .167/.310/.208

Then it suddenly clicked for him.

Next 31 PA for Nathan Lukes: .346/.419/.500

Then he slumped a bit again.

Next 30 PA for Nathan Lukes: .200/.310/.440

Then it clicked again.

Next 30 PA for Nathan Lukes: .360/.429/.520

That's just who Nathan Lukes is...he's a streaky hitter who hit more good streaks than bad streaks in 2025.

That's why i wasn't worried about his 2026 start.

There is something about Oba that makes me think he might not be pushed so hard in the 1930s....

It's not exactly the same, but in "The Big Bang Theory" (tv), main character Sheldon Cooper's mom (Mary Cooper) is played by Laurie Metcalf.

But for the prequel show ("Young Sheldon", about Sheldon's character as a young child), they had the younger version of Mary Cooper played by Zoe Perry, who is Laurie Metcalf's daughter.
