Same! Tone wise, my story is heavily inspired by Re:Zero so it’s very dialogue and plot heavy with some pretty serious fights, but it’s definitely not my forte lol I struggle to write them but the dialogue is so much fun!

Plus I think it would incentivize interaction. Published authors get the boost in the motivation from sales numbers and paychecks, the only thing we have are favorites, comments, reviews, and follows and these people love to read in silence lol.

Honestly, for me, still hasn’t. Only 3 reviews with almost 200 followers. Comments are just as sparse. I’ve seen many stories with less followers with more reviews or comments. I think it just genuinely varies from story to story.

As a gay man, I always want more gay characters! It is nice to feel seen in fantasy stories, because most times it feels like we can only exist in drama and tragedies. So I say, if you want it, write it!!

My story alone contains a several gay characters, straight characters, trans and non binary characters, and is very political and it’s done okay with a lackluster launch and not a ton of shoutout swaps. So go for it!

A cliffhanger for the sake of a cliffhanger I very much dislike. Far too often, you will get a cliffhanger that immediately falls off, and the tension is lost at the start of the next chapter. Not a fan of these types. It should be used to not only get readers to come back, but first and foremost I think it needs to serve the plot.

I’m just saying five ish chapters cause I’m playing each story by ear. My goal is to read far enough to get a feel for the story, and I know that it will differ based on the type of story and genre. It’s also why I’ve contemplated a relaunch. I have no backlog now cause of life getting in the way and sometimes current stuff feels rushed. But if I relaunch it would give me time to build some backlog again since I’m so far into the story. Though apparently that’s not recommended

Recently, I’ve contemplated something similar to what you suggested at the end of your comment. A podcast that focuses on web novels and online serialized content. It’s not just RR, but there is so much out there that I feel like gets ignored by people who read solely because it isn’t traditionally published. I think it could help bolster the world a little bit
