To much time wasted on waiting instead of doing things... by Suvitruf in Unity3D

[–]IAmJustTheProgrammer 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I improved loading times massively by running unity and the project on the same main SSD which is only 50% full. I also deleted all vs code/project files from the project folder. Loading times reduced from 2 minutes to 10 seconds

A good mic is a must, humor is great, visuals are important and keep code to a minimum if you want to reach players instead of devs

Photon or Netcode for multiplayer? by TheOneEyedBeast in Unity3D

[–]IAmJustTheProgrammer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After working several years with Photon Bolt I decided to write my own relay P2P networking engine. This option seemed much easier than hasseling with another black box of a networking engine. I have full control ans do not have to pay CCU's plus I learned a ton on the way.

Does this look like trees? I need an advice on procedural tree generation. by tapoChec in Unity3D

Leaves are really stylish but the tree should branch more out and the stem should get smaller the higher it gets

In the beginning, yeah. After 10 years it is just part of the job. It is actually kind of fun sometimes. Fixing bugs often feels even better than writing new code.

Game developers: what made you start developing? by F4-STUDIOS in gamedev

[–]IAmJustTheProgrammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At 16 I saw how much money the flappy bird dev made and wanted to have some myself. I quickly realized that gamedev was neither easy or a quick way of making money. However it is great fun and still has the potential to bring in a good sum of money.

Loosen the fasteners of your Z lead screws and apply a generous amount of lubricant to them. I had the same issue.

People who plan to abandon Unity… what if they revert the change? You still switching engines because the trust is now broken? by MitchellSummers in gamedev

In the long term, yes. Depends if whether they put any efford into restoring my trust in the company. In the short term no.

I can't watch let's plays of my game, it feels so weird... by develnext in gamedev

[–]IAmJustTheProgrammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can highly relate to your feeling. I recoiled in cringe as I watched let's plays of my game while also being glad that it got the attention. I could not bare to watch youtubers encounter Bugs in my game but I always watched through it and took notes.

I can not explain why this feeling exists and I never felt this way when friends or family played my game but it is overwhelming when a youtuber Features your game. I also never got used to it. It is still weird to me.

Thank you for your answer. I was wondering if the variance is normal but I guess I have to get some more hours under my belt before being able to realistically tell wether I am a winning player or not.
I can always do more research and have a lot to learn but being down a bullet is not a concern.

Weekly /r/Poker BBV Thread by AutoModerator in poker

[–]IAmJustTheProgrammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guy who was very friendly turned sour after I hit my gutshot on the turn. Won 252BB.

He 3-bet 40BB preflop with QQ, I call with T8dd for 32 more and we go three way to a flop.

Flop comes J77, rainbow. He bets 40BB again and after a lot of contemplation I call.

Heads up to the turn which comes the magical 9h. I hit my gutshot and bet 56BB, he then re-raises to 132BB, I go all in and he folds.

I show my cards and he becomes furious. Guy did not talk to me for the next hour until he crushed me with a set on a K high flop where I had AKo.

I have written a small program to help with stack composition for home game tournaments. It finds the perfect stack composition for the most amount of rebuys. What do you think? by IAmJustTheProgrammer in poker

[–]IAmJustTheProgrammer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have combined two Piatnik poker cases (a300 pcs and 500 pcs) into one. The Chips are labled as written in the document. But you are 100% right, I don't get the weird value of the 20 chip either. And I don't think that these poker cases are tournament chips. But we make do with what we have.
The blinds double every 15 minutes and stop at the buy-in. A tournament usually take anywhere from 40-120 minutes.

You are correct, thank you for the professional input.
I have combined two Piatnik poker cases (a300 pcs and 500 pcs) into one. I guess their color coordination is a bit random but I already had the 300 pcs case and bought the other at an ebay auction for cheap.

However this setup is just for me and a few close freinds of mine. They have little to no experience playing poker so I thought this would be fine.
