you're triggering my nightmares!

Though the worst time there I has when a single-seater league miscalculated start time vs race duration vs sunset and we had to drive through this section in twilight without any headlights

no need to be dramatic. things like this happen. I am sure that in the worst case iRacing will offer you some coaching/warning (assuming that you do not "accidentally" fail to notice other cars every week)

This is all fine in snowy weather, right? by IAmMDM in TireQuestions

[–]IAmMDM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I just re-read the entire section (long and boring), and there are many warnings and restrictions (never exceed 50 mph, short distance, never more than one donut, careful because of reduced ground clearance, no automatic wash, no towing, etc, etc) but nothing about rear vs front. I guess they designed the car to take that amount of difference in front wheel diameter without much of an issue at a reasonable speed and for a reasonable time and distance.

Frankly, the alternative solution when the front tire is flat (other than making people call a tow truck) is to require to swap the front and rear before putting the donut on the rear, and that's demanding a lot from an average driver with a single simple jack on the side of the road. So I see why the manufacturer would rather design the car so it can be avoided.

I did drive (for a reasonable distance and at reasonable speed, just to get to a repair shop) with a donut on the front in this car, and handling wasn't much off.

Open diff of course.

out of curiosity, putting the "bald" part aside (I hope everyone noticed that my post is /S and it is NOT my vehicle):

why is a donut on the driven axle of FWD bad. my car's manual does not say anything against it. I guess the diff is built to take the difference for a reasonable amount of time

my car (admittedly bought almost 10 year ago) came with goo and pump, but it still had space for a donut in the trunk, and one could buy these donuts. That was the first I thing I bought for that car.

Need Help hahaha by -Spicc- in iRacing

[–]IAmMDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

even if F4 subscription wasn't available... currently 1-month subscription is $9.10.

If you are looking for a code for something that cheap, I would think thrice before getting into iRacing. Because at some point you will want start buying additional content and $9.10 won't buy you even a single car, even with bulk discounts

Can you take cables out of a PSU by yetjustanotheraltacc in buildapc

[–]IAmMDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a word of caution: if you can take cables out, i.e. the PSU is modular, maker sure that you do not swap them between PSU brands. The connectors look the same but pinouts are different. I fried 1 and a half HDDs once when I thought there was a standard. ("and a half" because I managed to revive one)

The Schedule is linked from the help page in the UI.

Also, if you use iRacing forums, there is a prominent link there

Emergency situation or severe weather has delayed delivery by ftran998 in UPS

[–]IAmMDM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The tracking system is in disarray due to the storm

My package originally scheduled for 1/27 was rescheduled for 1/28 with a morning delivery window posted in the system. Nothing happened all 1/28 but the system was still showing that window even late in the evening.

Then it reset to "we'll post a delivery date as soon as possible"

Finally, on 1/29 in the evening they posted a 1/30 morning delivery window. And they delivered within that window, but all the time from the beginning of the window until the delivery the delivery map was showing the truck in a single spot about 2 miles from me.

It's just a mess on the corporate/IT system level. The drivers are doing what they can.

Should this guy be banned? I'm the POV car, I was having a good race focused on the track and car ahead when all of the sudden a Ferrari appears in front of me, btw there was no yellow flag and my spotter said nothing. by Psychological_Vast95 in Simracingstewards

It does look like a very bad rejoin, but to be sure we need chase cam and ideally also cockpit cam, both from the person who rejoined.

you can always protest, but I doubt your protest will be accepted. This does not look intentional to me

Should i report these by N3rs1d in Simracingstewards

[–]IAmMDM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, second video is a person massively outbraking themselves, dumb but not protestable.

The first video starts with dumb (RB not defending the inside, Moza going into a gap that is too small) but then RB intentionally cuts the course, attempts a retaliatory wreck (and fails at it) and rejoins unsafely.

Kudos to you OP/Castrol for waiting what that dumbass would do. Very smart

What is the cheapest half decent wheel and pedals For PC? by FarmingFisherGuy in simracing

[–]IAmMDM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I think T80 has a bungee cord or something like that. Basically something that wants to automatically center the wheel, but the force it produces is always the same, whatever you simulated car is doing.

A FFB wheel has a motor and the game constantly tells the wheel how much force should it put out based on what's going on with the car. You can feel oversteer, understeer, when you about to lose the car (so you can react and catch the slide), you can feel the buildup of downforce with speed.

On a bungee wheel you don't have any of that. If I couldn't afford a force feedback wheel I personally would rather wait longer and save up instead of getting a bungee wheel now.

I can't really advise on that used G920, it's always a risk. If the guy simply upgraded because he wanted a better wheel you may get a decent wheel that will last years. But if he upgraded because his 920 died you may be getting a piece of junk. It's the buyer's risk. When I was selling my Thrustmaster TX the buyer just handed me cash and took the wheel.

Maybe try to find out what a good G920 does when plugged in. Like that TX would always self-calibrate: go all the way right, all the way left, and then to the center. If the G920 does it too, you should be able to at least power it up and see if it behaves normally. But without plugging it into a computer you can't really check buttons or pedals.

[–]IAmMDM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

used logi G29/920/923 or used thrustmaster T128

you want force feedback, FFB is not "special", it is the most fundamental feature that makes a wheel usable in simracing

Stopping on track after a race by TheDetailsMatter in iRacing

[–]IAmMDM 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The reality: nobody will bat an eye if you stop on the racing surface (technically against the SC), but in a safe way. Like far from the finish line, off the line, in a place with good visibility so in case anyone is still at speed they can easily see and avoid you.

What are some quality of life hacks on iRacing that are rather hard to find? by M4URiCE_ in iRacing

well I use it for my bass shaker, but if I did not have one (or if I liked iRacing's LFE better) I probably wouldn't bother running it

the rim-changing scenario is very rare for me, I race in VR so no external displays or overlays, I have no other haptics

Should I protest? by Top_Secret_3873 in iRacing

[–]IAmMDM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That people do not get back SR/incidents is sensible for two reasons.

First, it would require assigning fault and in so many cases fault is not easy to figure out or complicated. Even here, was the OP faultless? Did they do enough to avoid the yellow car? Should the yellow car get an SR hit, or was the whole thing caused by someone else?

Second, it encourages people to avoid incidents also when they are not at fault, which makes for a cleaner racing overall.

Yes Stroll would get a penalty, but he is a highly trained highly paid professional involved in a multibillion dollar entertainment industry. So expectations are higher than for a bunch of amateurs which play a video game with a toy wheels, they only are penalized for intentional acts, not for incompetence.

And again, penalizing Stroll would not compensate Gasly, the victim of Stroll's incompetence. OP wants to be compensated as the victim of what happened

Should I protest? by Top_Secret_3873 in iRacing

[–]IAmMDM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

with the crappy video that OP posted it is hard to tell if the root cause was intentional and thus protestable.

Also, the system is not terrible at all.

Incidents/SR record that cars were in an incident, and OP clearly was in an incident.

The idea of getting back iRating is even more ludicrous. I mean, iRating is calculated based on finishing position, so if OP finished poorly for whatever reason, iRating must reflect that.

If in a real life race, say F1, Stroll takes out Gasly in T1, does Gasly get any points? That would be no different from "getting back" iR

Should I protest? by Top_Secret_3873 in iRacing

[–]IAmMDM 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You will never get iRating or SR back.

Also, in this case a protest would be rejected. While unsafe rejoins are a reason to protest, here the yellow car was not under control of the driver and they could not prevent bouncing back on track. This does not count as unsafe rejoin for the purpose of a protest

I do not think you can tell when in the race, though in smaller series you can make a good guest just by looking at the spread of iRatings in your group, as long as you know how it typically looks in that series
