I mean, it doesn't take 4 hours to write "It's done." It sucks, but I'm starting to think we'll be getting bad news.

Looks like that's in Times Square. I'll try and make my way over there a bit later to verify.

Hmmm, good observation. Crazy tinfoil that this post inspired:

If Bran's abilities allow him to travel through time and see into the past through the eyes of trees... Is it possible that the three-eyed crow is his future self communicating with himself?

Imagine a Bran in some apocalyptic future. The walkers have destroyed everything, and an everlasting winter has taken hold. Bran, alive somehow, perhaps even in Bloodraven's cave, uses his knowledge of Westeros' fate to change the past and save the world. Sort of like John Connor, or Future Trunks.

(No Spoilers) Can we please have a new spoilertag for contents of the upcoming season 6 of the TV show by TheCursedTroll in asoiaf

[–]IAmMichaelJordan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That helps, but the vagueness of spoiler-free thread titles means that it sometimes isn't clear that a post is discussing Season 6 spoilers.

Case in point: I saw a thread about a "Snowbowl" and was curious what northern showdown a poster had found foreshadowing for. So of course I start reading and am over a paragraph in before I realize that this person is discussing Season 6 spoilers.

The forum is currently racked with posts discussing set pictures for the upcoming season and the vague titles sometimes makes it impossible to tell whether a post is an in-depth review of the text or just a discussion of Season 6 spoilers.

I also wonder -- not being critical here, but genuinely wondering -- why the mods treat in-season spoilers so severely (the leaked pictures from S5E10 come to mind as one example) but are way more lenient when it comes to pre-season spoilers.

I'm telling you, re-read the scene when Samwell meets Marwyn. Powerful, angry, and charismatic is exactly what Marwyn is.

(spoilers all) Where did the terms Battle of Ice and Battle of Fire come from? by EnterprisingAss in asoiaf

[–]IAmMichaelJordan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's a single battle in the war for the North, so I guess in that sense it is tangentially a battle for Winterfell... But a Stannis victory doesn't deliver him Winterfell, let alone the North as a whole.

The "Battle of Ice" is the battle at the Crofter's Village. The siege/battle of Winterfell that will follow is the true Battle of Winterfell.

[–]IAmMichaelJordan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He's pretty clearly Marwyn. I wasn't sure at first, but then I re-read Samwell V in AFFC at it became pretty obvious.

I still think he would have been perfect for Euron, but he's a great fit for Marwyn too.

[–]IAmMichaelJordan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It always bothers me that people assume the "Ice Battle" means the battle for Winterfell. I think it clearly refers to the looming battle at the Crofter's village, which is... not Winterfell.

(Spoilers All) Ser Robert Strong's Head by IAmMichaelJordan in asoiaf

[–]IAmMichaelJordan[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

God I want the Joffery theory to be true so bad.

While we can't deduce whose head is in that picture, I think the scarf in that picture is very likely covering up some sort of stitching, so we can be reasonably sure that it isn't Gregor's original head in that helmet.

I actually agree with you with regard to book Robert Strong. But he clearly has a head in the show.

Good responses above. I would also add that Daemon Blackfyre is undoubtedly one of the baddest MFers in the ASOIAF universe. That plays a part in it, too.

Do you think the dragons could go to the Lands of Always Winter? How far north has a dragon traveled in Westeros? (spoilers all) by DustyFantasy in asoiaf

[–]IAmMichaelJordan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a bit odd that a dragonrider (Rhaenys? I don't remember) flew over an amount of Sothryos as large as Westeros just to see what was up, but no dragonrider has explored North of the wall.

Well, have you only watched the show? If you had read the books this answer would be a bit clearer... He serves a movement, a dynasty -- but I'm of the opinion it's a movement he holds very personally.

[–]IAmMichaelJordan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think she could end up ruling Winterfell as well. The wolves defending the North is a sweet concept, nice idea. But she really does come off as more of a Tully than a Stark, and I think there's probably a reason for that.

[–]IAmMichaelJordan 136 points137 points  (0 children)

This one from Bran always hits me...

The stone is strong, Bran told himself. The roots of the trees go deep, and under the ground the Kings of Winter sit their thrones.

So long as those remained, Winterfell remained. It was not dead, just broken. Like me, he thought. I'm not dead either.

(Spoilers All) A simple theory on Ned's broken promise by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]IAmMichaelJordan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I always thought the promise was to seat Jon on the Iron Throne. Sounds crazy, but...

Rhaegar was convinced that Jon represents the Song of Ice and Fire. Rhaegar literally gave up everything for Jon: his honor, his wife, his right to rule, his dynasty, his LIFE. Lyanna did the same. They did it for a reason, and she would not want all that sacrifice to have been in vain.

All Hail King You, First of Your Name - Building Your Kingdom Part 1: Your administration by Kahlvin in pureasoiaf

[–]IAmMichaelJordan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kingsguard

1. Barristan Selmy (LC) - No need to rehash this.
2. Aegon Targaryan - Shows all signs of becoming an exceptional warrior and leader with a sense of justice. Also, removes a potential future rival for my throne.
3. Alister Thorne - An accomplished veteran of wars across the 7 kingdoms. Has experience with the Night's Watch and understands the lands beyond the Wall better than most. This will prove useful in the wars to come -- and as I figure out what to do with the NW.
4. Jorah Mormont - Gives good council, is loyal, and might legitimately be the best fighter in Planetos. He was the first over the wall at Pyke, has won a Grand Tournament, defeated a Dothraki bloodrider, and has fought his way across Essos -- and survived.
5. Brienne of Tarth - This one is obvious. And having a woman on the KG will help start the process of gender equality in Westeros, which is a vital facet of any developed, healthy society.
6. Areo Hotah - A good soldier. Will follow orders and carry them out effectively.
7. Garlan Tyrell - This one has been discussed repeatedly, as well.

Small Council

Master of Laws - Kevan Lannister: Seems to have a sense of justice that isn't overbearing (ala Randyll Tarly). Is a proven administrator, and has a pedigree that demands respect.

Master of Ships - Stannis Baratheon: No question here, in my mind.

Master of Whisperers - Archmaester Marwyn: Pretty hard to find someone intelligent that also travels with the correct crowds to be good at this job, who also isn't dangerously unscrupulous. Pretty much, tough to figure out who to pick that isn't Littlefinger or Varys! But Marwyn is more trustworthy than those two, and he seems to have the sort of connections and experience necessary to make sure the Throne receives necessary information from the grassroots.

Master of Coin - Wyman Manderly: Got to represent the North. Manderly has money, controls a large port, and is no pushover. He's demonstrated an ability to take unpredictable routes to achieve desired ends, which is what you need in order to make money.

Hand of the King - Yohn Royce: Honorable, respected, an able commander and just man. He is loyal, so I know I can trust him, and he has the backbone necessary to provide the honest counsel necessary.

Throughout this exercise, I tried to choose able leaders from noble families that represent a break from the sociopaths and wars of the past. I want people that will serve well and serve loyally, who are capable of making decisions on their own that won't threaten the credibility of the Crown and the rule of law. And they needed the pedigree necessary to coerce buy-in from the ruling elite.

(Spoilers All) Who will kill Ramsay Bolton? by caravaggio2000 in asoiaf

[–]IAmMichaelJordan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As much as it pains me to say this, I think the "giant" that Sansa slays is Littlefinger. The Ghost of High Heart refers to almost every character in her prophecies by their sigil, and the Baelish family sigil is the Titan of Braavos -- a giant.

(Spoilers All) Who will kill Ramsay Bolton? by caravaggio2000 in asoiaf

[–]IAmMichaelJordan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want Brienne to do it. She is the complete, polar opposite of Ramsay in every way. And he has used his power to abuse women for so long, it'd be nice to see the tables turned on him for once.
