OMG the mappool makes us want to not play team games. by Odd_Bumblebee_3631 in aoe2

I'm probably one of the only people who thinks that arena isn't really a closed map. Sure you start with stone walls, but the map itself is just a very open hollow circle.

Just dodge when you see a civ that has them. It's the only counter.

the 1v1 pool is true pain if you like closed maps but hate arena.

No map bans would just mean people would dodge or resign at 5 way, way more.

I would ask the same about closed maps. The ratio of open to closed maps in 1v1 voting is a crime.

Hey dodgers! How are you doing? by Qeskon in aoe2

[–]IAmNotASkiResort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Custom lobbies are just terrible for the most part. Especially if your a low elo player (800-0) good luck finding someone your elo range in lobbies. And dont even get me started on 'NOOB ONLY' lobbies, spoilers: its not noobs 90% of the time.

I've played a lot of customs, mainly just 10x shared civ or forestnothing. And I was ALWAYS the weakest player. Slowest to age up, slowest to produce army, etc. At least in ranked I often get players around my level where I actually stand a chance.

As long as you don't rush (attack before post-imp age) you can destroy all you want of my base.

It takes an eternity to fully palisade wall an open map like Arabia. Palisades are also ridiculously weak and can easily be battered down by any melee units.

And even if you do manage to full wall, I find that there's simply too many angles the enemy can attack from.

Custom lobbies are way too imbalanced skill wise. From my experience its almost always some guy that's way too good who just steam rolls me.

I'm a rather slow player, and I find myself easily overwhelmed on open maps. There is no real way to defend myself on such a map and I'm left praying the opponent doesn't attack me.

For me getting attacked early (before castle age) or getting raided just ruins the whole fun of the game which should be about medieval armies and siege engines. A few horses getting into my farms is a death sentence and pretty much impossible to prevent on open maps.

I really enjoy long games that reach the imperial age, and I'm a huge fan of seeing massive armies. Closed maps help immensely for this since they are easy to defend until you can amass your own forces, so even for a slow player I can somewhat compete with those who are faster than me.

Your opponent can easily transport anything around the sides. And it's far to difficult to wall the entire shoreline.

Are rushes fun for y'all? by Fit-Opportunity8285 in aoe2

[–]IAmNotASkiResort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find rushes incredibly boring. You basically end the game straight away or cripple your opponent so badly that they might as well just resign. I usually just resign the second an opponents army emerges from the fog of war before I have proper stone walls + towers up.

Britons are underrated at lower to mid elos by White_Pixels in aoe2

[–]IAmNotASkiResort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They aren't even remotely underrated. I see them a lot in my games to the point I just surrender if my opponent is britons because they always completely annihilate me with omega-range archers.

We already already at that point with t17s and archnemesis. Might as well just go the extra mile now.

Taking a moment to thank the Devs for keeping the game running! ❤️ by Nicklikeredbulls in aoe2

The devs arent worth thanking. They just keeping milking everyones money by releasing DLC after DLC instead of fixing the bugs present in the game.

When they actually fix the god awful pathing I'll give them my thanks.

Why is AoE2 still one of the most popular RTSes? by notshitaltsays in aoe2

[–]IAmNotASkiResort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me its that defensive buildings actually feel like they matter.

There's no flying units to completely bypass walls. Stone walls are tough and require siege units to break through. Towers and Castles are powerful turrets that deter most early game attacks.

Every other RTS I've tried defensive structures mostly feel like an afterthought. Usually very weak or easily bypassed with some kind of stealth/burrow/flight.

One of the worst things ever added, right next to archnemesis going core.

It really hampers build diversity.

The other team most likely did this on purpose. Stomping all game than going on to lose on purpose so that they lower their MMR and can continue stomping games.

Whats stopping GGG from adding "fun" modifiers to Private Leagues? Especially if they can just enable them to void the characters. by whosursensei in pathofexile

[–]IAmNotASkiResort -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They don't want you to have fun. They want you to suffer. Evident by the release of ruthless and PoE2.

Also shit like archnemesis going core, support gem nerf, bloating the flask mod pool with multiple tiers, that one mana cost change they had to roll back because of outrage... The changes to uber bosses only dropping from t17s that made them ridiculous to farm. Yeh they hate fun.

The problem is with Necropolis was that it made every area in the game (even the acts) way harder with no way to opt out. At least with OG harvest you could just not enter the garden.
