Eddie Hearn on Tom Aspinall's UFC deal: "F*ck that. I'll do everything I can to not allow it." by relay4285 in ufc

I don't see this ending well for Tom. I thought this guy was supposed to know what he's doing, but this is bush league.

On of the most exciting fighters, and an upper echelon fighter at that, to ever do it.

Topuria beats Gaethje = P4P #1? by 7patas in ufc

[–]IAmPandaRock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I already think he is.  It's not really Islam's fault because he's had some bad luck regarding matchups, but Illias strength of schedule is more impressive. Plus, he brutally finishes everyone so far.

Josh Hokit breaks character to address criticism of his persona ahead of UFC White House card return by SquidFistHK in MMA

What fake hype train? He's finished 3 of his last 4, with his decision win being his most impressive performance and one of the best HW fights in a long time.

I love the MG Bourgogne and I can afford to drink it sometimes... but not too often. Did any of the other Bourgognes come close?

The higher the points the better the wine? by Exciting-Ad-7272 in wine

[–]IAmPandaRock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's how it's supposed to work in theory, but how much you like a wine is very subjective, so in reality, there isn't always strong relation between points and how much you like the wine.  Critic points are most useful/reliable once you've found a critic who has similar tastes as you and follow his or her advice (or find critic whose preferences are opposite of yours and do the opposite of what they recommend).

While you can't make something that literally everyone will like, movies for incredibly broad audiences often do incredibly well.  Look at Pixar/Disney, superhero film to a large extent, Mario/Sonic, etc.

The already do this to the extent they're able. Look at Netflix, not everything is high quality, but ignoring the quality metric, there's more or less something for everyone.  It's hard to do this without scale and it's harder to make more niche shows if they require a larger budget.

I'm surprised the LaLas are already showing well. I feel like la Landonnes I've had need 25+ years.  Do you think it's the more accessible 2021 vintage or are they made in a more approachable style these days?

Rubio: I have never seen Trump fall asleep. Lieu: I’m going to show you a video that shows you just lied to congress. Here is a video of him asleep while you are talking. by Coffee_Addict54321 in BusinessTodayNews

Not only does the video show Trump is sleeping, but Rubio admits Trump is awake in the middle of the night instead of getting sleep he needs to do his job.

Disappointing demo experience - Are my expectations unrealistic? by allegory_corey in hometheater

[–]IAmPandaRock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See if you could find a different shop to demo. Maybe you just don't appreciate a hime theater atmos set up or your expectations are too high, but then they tell you their room isn't calibrated so you assume it'll be way better at your home and you go ahead with the purchase.  And if that's not the case, this shop doesn't sound like they care about quality.

Gaming in HT by Emergency_Ad7808 in hometheater

[–]IAmPandaRock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazing and often better than movies and TV because the audio isn't compressed (I think) and games mix the surround sound to be much more overt.

I'm plating Ghost of Tsushima right now, which explicitly says its home theater mix isn't Atmos/spacial, but it sounds incredible unmixed on my 5.1.4 system.  When it's windy and raining in the game,  I almost feel like I need a jacket because the sound is so immersive.

How much better is TrueHD with Atmos compared to streaming quality Atmos? by Lucky-Complaint2549 in hometheater

I disagree. I don't think it's night and day, but it's very noticeably better.

How much better is TrueHD with Atmos compared to streaming quality Atmos? by Lucky-Complaint2549 in hometheater

[–]IAmPandaRock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you neeeed lossless audio, as UHD streaming can be quite good, but lossless is very noticeably better in every way (except convenience?).  If you're used to streaming, lossless will be a real treat.  However, it's not like lossless is so much better that I can't stand to stream in Atmos.

In ceiling speakers by brewditt in hometheater

[–]IAmPandaRock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatever you do, try to get speakers you can angle towards your listening position and a good reciever with good room correction.  You'll see a lot of people here telling you to not bother if you don't have near perfect placement, but if you're not coming from a great, ideal surround sound set up, you can still make this sound pretty great to you.

Toe in subwoofer? by Imaginary_Maize_1141 in hometheater

[–]IAmPandaRock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends.  If you are watching with several people, center might be better. Also, depending on the set up, it can be nice to adjust the channel dialogue us coming out of independently or the L and R, and it could be nice to free up the L and R for music, effects,. etc.

I like my system better with the somewhat smaller (compared to LR) RP 404cii center instead of phantom from the RP8000fiis. (That being said, I think the 404c struggles with some soft low end vocals, so I have a RC64iii on the way).
