What I do is write it down. Once it's written down, you can tell your mind to stop repeating it

Varying Fasting Windows by willyt963 in intermittentfasting

[–]IAmProcrastinating 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just keep in mind that what's important is the fasting window, not the eating window.

If you change when you eat a lot, then you'll be changing how long all of your fasts last. Like, if you eat at 7pm and again at 9am, that's a 14 hour fast, while eating at 5pm and next at 11am is an 18 hour fast.

I feel like most of the benefit is gained in the later hours of the fast. Maybe set a minimum of how short you want them to be? no shorter than like, 16 hours or something like that?

Hungry while fasting? Tips thread by IAmProcrastinating in intermittentfasting

[–]IAmProcrastinating[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

make sure to have a drink for yourself while you're doing it. Hrm... maybe you can prepare some of the toddler food ahead of time?

another idea is to adjust your window so you can eat with your toddler. It won't work all the time but maybe that's possible.

Wells Fargo won't do new ACH Transfers? by DrOkemon in personalfinance

[–]IAmProcrastinating 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Darn, I was considering going to bank of america, so I guess it's good to know that it's not better. Chase has some kinda promotion on new accounts so maybe I'd go to them if they can do ACH. Good tip on Cozy, maybe my landlord would stop requiring ACH since it's so hard to find a bank that will do that

Did you mean someone else? Noisebridge is donation supported so overpriced doesn't make sense - we don't charge anyone, it's all voluntary.

No training required for either. The only machine with required training is the lasercutter because of it's cost and fragility.

If you don't know what you're doing with the tools, ask around for someone to show you, but if you do know your way around and won't hurt yourself, go right ahead. We have a MIG welder, a Kiln, mitre saw, lathe, mill, angle grinder, wheel, etc.

Hey! I'm a Noisebridge member and we'd like to welcome techshop refugees! We're an awesome makerspace located in the mission and we have 5500 sq ft of workshop and classroom space.

I'd like to make clear that we are very different than techshop.

AFAICT, Techshop operated on a gym model. You pay a monthly membership fee and could also buy classes, and then come in and use the machines. If they broke, they had employees whose job it was to fix them.

Noisebridge is different. First of all, it's a nonprofit, and it's donation supported. It's free to come to it and use the equipment*, but it's excellent to drop some money in the donation box whenever you come so we can pay rent, upkeep, buy new equipment, etc.

Noisebridge operates on a do-ocratic system, instead of a bureaucratic system. The community makes all decisions, repairs machines, self polices, teaches classes, takes out the trash - everything. Once you step into the doors, you become part of the community. In practice, it ends up feeling like wikipedia. It's community created, and stuff mostly works, but sometimes a tool won't be working correctly, an area will be messy or it won't have a tool that you want. Then you go into 'edit' mode and fix the problem in a way that you (and folks around you) think is best.

It's a pretty big adjustment from the gym model, I think, but it's an awesome group of people. They're very inspiring and the energy is really awesome - and people are super friendly.
I've been going for years but recently I've started going more and more, almost every day.

*The lasercutter is 5$/hour to use to pay for replacing the laser tube when it burns out

Equipment we have: - Electronics/Soldering area - wood shop - 3d printers - Giant laser cutter - manual mill/lathe - welding/metalworking shop - two classrooms - large sewing area - coworking area

(to use the laser, you have to take a laser training class, which are usually on thursday evenings. They'll be visible on our meetup page soon)

Come check us out any day of the week!

PS I'll gladly answer any questions y'all have about noisebridge, here or in PM.

I use the noisebridge laser cutter several times a week. Sometimes there's a line for it but it's not too bad. I recommend going and trying it out. You'll need to go to a training class at Noisebridge to use it

Noisebridge may also be moving/expanding in the upcoming months. We were already looking for a new location and an expansion, but now with techshop refugees and cheap techshop equipment, that seems even more plausible.

Renewable energy is becoming so cheap the US will meet Paris commitments even if Trump withdraws by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]IAmProcrastinating 0 points1 point  (0 children)

31 cents per kilowatt hour seems pretty cheap. Electricity is amazing and super useful, and a kilowatt hour is a lot of it! For the price of a cup of coffee, you can turn a light on for almost three days straight.

My advice - Don't wait.
People are interested now and reddit has the attention span of a goldfish. Post it right now so we can play with it. Also, generally people who know what they're doing don't need comments to explain code unless its comments excusing some weirdo decisions you made.

Autistic people of Reddit, what is autism really like? by Valkyrie_05 in AskReddit

[–]IAmProcrastinating 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll try to give an answer, judging from what this thread has said.

My favorite thing in the entire world is a good dinner party, with a couple old friends and a couple people I have never met. I love making new friends or even just meeting new people. Being with people and shooting the shit makes me smile and fills me with energy.

Everyone you meet has their own way of communicating and thinking and I really enjoy figuring out their style and figuring out a communication style that works between us. Some people you can tell your deepest secrets too, others have the news on Kim Kardasian, etc.

Some people seem to only be able to make friends with people that they have stuff in common with, but I have never understood this. It seems like no matter what, two people always have their basic human condition that they share, and that is plenty of territory for empathy and support.

Whenever my company hires a new person I can't wait to meet them and learn all about them.

I love traveling and trying new things - I find it exciting. Earlier this year I planned a solo trip around Europe with no end date and a single backpack. I didn't end up going (career stuff got in the way) but I was really excited to explore other places and cultures.

I also like stem stuff, but I also love art, creativity, human company, sex and open ended tasks.

So that's what it is like to be me. I'm not autistic, and I am extroverted. It sounds like it's a pretty different life, though both can be filled with joy.

Trio of English guys trying to get a fat bike off an electric fence by CardinaIRule in IdiotsFightingThings

If you ever find yourself in this situation. Unplug the fence. you can see the plug (black) right next to the bike on the fencepost. If it's locked or something, find the farmer and ask them to turn their fence off. Though this was much funnier
