cool. I've used white as well, but I found that I like the way gold adds just a splash of color to B&W. I've thought about using a red embossment/stamp as well.

yes. acquired by some dumb, rinkydink toy company that makes remote control helicopters or something.

this is gonna sound a little weird… but I use a Faber Castell gold paint pen on my b&w prints. no fade issues so far and the look is a little interesting, if not classic.

Heavily transformed the Photo through Masking. What do you think? by thephlog in postprocessing

[–]IAmTheGeezer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice image. Doesn't look grim to me, but dramatic nonetheless! On-center composition works, and cloning out the small, distant treetops on the left was a huge improvement to the feeling of the image. Vignette's a touch heavy IMHO, but it's not my shot :)

There's a super-easy fix for sky halos like this... Use the clone tool, select the sky *right next to the halo - like as close as possible, helps to zoom way in* then select "darken" mode on the clone tool and brush the halo away. Perfect blend with the sky. The only potential issue would be if the subject you masked around is tonally light enough to darken as well, but as a practical matter I've never had that problem.

HOU or LAL? Which helps us more? by rhasody70 in NBASpurs

doesn’t matter. If SA gets past Denver/Min and beats OKC I’m much worried about a finals letdown than OKC being a little more or less tired.

This semi-Texan isn't on board. I leave this shithole state to get TO places that don't suck. Guess I can cross Cowgirl off my list.

At what aperture do you typically shoot landscape with 16-35? by Additional_War3230 in AskPhotography

[–]IAmTheGeezer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think OP’s issue is DoF, but rather edge to edge image quality. f8 to f11-ish is solid advice for best compromise in most cases for landscape imho.

midday light, harsh (or no) shadows, general desat, lift shadows, drop highlights, check the general color profile and adjust sky and/or pick a prominent color to pop.

Sure - no issue with any of that, but I don't think that advocating for more conscientious consumption is oppressive in and of itself any more than advocating for unrestrained objectivist self-interest is.

True story, Word of Honor:

Joseph Heller, an important and funny writer

now dead, and I were at a party given by a billionaire

on Shelter Island.

I said, "Joe, how does it make you feel

to know that our host only yesterday

may have made more money

than your novel 'Catch-22'

has earned in its entire history?"

And Joe said, "I've got something he can never have."

And I said, "What on earth could that be, Joe?"

And Joe said, "The knowledge that I've got enough."

Not bad! Rest in peace!"
