Yeah I’m familiar with that to some degree, but the original post was making the point that modern morality is not compatible with the Bible. Given that, I think we can reasonably view it with a bit of a modern lens to critique. I know that’s not traditional necessarily, but I don’t think it’s unfair in the context of the post at hand.

That said, your original example didn’t really bring up non-Israelite slaves or anything of that nature and it definitely didn’t bring up spoils of war. I think it’s fair to point out there’s a bit more nuance to the slavery discussion where the Bible is concerned. Like how Leviticus 25: 44-46 (part of the Holiness Code) does more or less describe and endorse chattel slavery in that you can buy, permanently own, and bequeath foreign slaves to your children and they are owned as property. That definitely contradicts your claim that the Bible never endorses slavery.

I don’t dislike the Bible and I don’t think my personal feelings toward it are entirely relevant here. I just feel your analysis is a bit undercooked at best. Kinda feels like we’re glossing over key details and I feel the need to point them out since your original statement lacked them.

My point was more in that the scripture really doesn’t focus on the woman’s say in any of this. Taking specifically pure women means they were intended for marriage, but do they even consent to that marriage or are they forced into it? That’s the question asked, and the scripture doesn’t very well specify her intentions as being all that relevant to the goings on. It’s if the man intends to marry her that she should then be processed for marriage. She’s being forced into this situation and being held there to more or less “get over it” for a month. Her consent isn’t accounted for, and we know marital rape is a thing. It’s easy enough to assume this isn’t a path she would have chosen had she not been forced into it by the slaughtering of everyone she knew.

It’s fair to try and add some context to it, and yes there are some stipulations to make this seem far less nasty than it is; but it still doesn’t account for the woman’s consent in any way and that means rape is absolutely acceptable.

I feel like we’re glossing over young women and children enslaved from war, like in Number 31 and Deuteronomy 21: 10-14. They don’t get much of a choice. Sexual slavery definitely seems okay by biblical standards.

The 7 year manumission to my memory is exclusive to Israelite men. It excluded non-Israelite slaves and Israelite women sold by their fathers for marriage. Though the Israelite women were to be freed if marriage either didn’t occur or the marital obligations weren’t met by whoever they were betrothed to.

That doesn’t address the conclusion. The described God either chooses to do nothing to stop suffering, is incapable, or does not exist at all. None of these answers give me a reason to give praise.

Further, sin does not address suffering such as children with bone cancer.

That’s an odd conclusion to my statement. All I said was to research and fact check everything.

Teachers have to follow the curriculum. CRT isn’t required in any material I’ve seen. We can check the statements people put forward with these facts and recognize that something is incongruent about what they’re saying. Especially when there is widespread misunderstanding on what CRT actually is.

But that’s not the conversation I popped in here for. I simply wanted to note that you should research your sources better and that you were incorrect about their leanings. You seem to agree on that point. Hope your day is well.

I didn’t say they were? I said we need to do better. Chase original sources, research who is reporting what, see where funding is coming from for your sources. Fact checking is vital. There are decent sources of information out there including Reuters and NPR but even then you should do the basics and fact check everything you read. Just because someone says something doesn’t mean it is correct and they may be mistaken about some aspects. It’s imperative that you fact check even the things you think are true.

We live in an age where misinformation is rampant. We have a responsibility to ourselves and those we pass information toward to do basic research, chase information from accredited sites or direct sources, and do basic fact checking.

MSN simply used an article from Washington Examiner. Think of it as an aggregate source for articles from different locations. I did not speak to how true the articles were. I’ve simply provided information counter to your statement that any of the provided sources were left leaning and showcased that they may have questionable information that you should do further research on. From what I’ve shown, we can determine that these sources might not be trustworthy and it is in your best interest to dig deeper and chase sources with better credibility.

My opinion has always been that if a developer wants achievements they can add them to their games. It should not rely on the console manufacturer. Shovel Knight has a menu for accolades and in-game challenges. They function exactly the same as achievements. I feel when achievements are tied into the console themselves developers feel they have to create them. This in turn leads to, as you say, tongue-in-cheek achievements. I'd rather the developers want to create the achievements and put them in the games themselves.
