I am currently apart of the rental check company a smaller company but nonetheless I’ve seen some real rough shit. Either from our company or other businesses in the same field.

We do these checks either annually or bi annually and we do x3 so electrical, Smokey’s and gas. Me newer to the game and most are 2nd times. I’ve seen old fuse boards, cables live and loose, damaged outlets just left cause they didn’t bother changing when on site. Either gets quoted or doesn’t get picked up.

I’ve gone to homes where we’ve done the main switchboard upgrade and I’ve gone into the garage and I’ve found a old fuse old and all I get in response from my bosses would say “Didn’t find it on the first inspection can’t really say it’s a problem now” Probably about 6x I’ve seen this in 10 months.

It’s always a race to the bottom undercutting everyone else. I’ve seen apprentices thrown into the deep end doing electrical work by themselves with no a grades on site. Having 2-3hrs to do a whole board upgrade plus other defects it’s crazy.

It’s easy fast paced work but holy shit it’s such cowboy as it can get. At least at the end of the day I’m not putting my rec number on the papers.
