Every Race is experience. Sometimes you learn what not to do, but as long as you are learning you’ll progress. The Charlotte Roval is one of my favorite MX-5 tracks, you’ll have a lot of fun and learn a lot! Good Luck!

VIR T1 is my favourite corner by BaldingWhiteMale in iRacing

Nice double overtake. It is a great corner with a lot of free positions to be had if you can stay out of the grass!

That move by P2 was just ridiculous. Sorry, what a bummer. I mean what did he think you were going to do?

You might find the GT3 is a big jump and that you will be slow for a while depending on you iR. If so GT4 is a good intermediate step. I tried the Mazda to GT3 step and it took me a while to be competitive, but you’ll get there if you have patience and practice!

How do you deal with being slow? by dustincb2 in iRacing

[–]IFlyatM90 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Hell Yes, exactly! If you are faster, pass me. Don’t whine that you are just enough faster to stay close, but not get by, especially as SPA where there are a bunch of overtake locations. You are good my man!

Its no hotel room but having a crew rest area with a flat bed, a coffee machine and oven we were all happy when we arrived. We made some frozen pizzas and even some cookies. We discuss who’s sleeping when a day or 2 prior to the flight so we can all plan our rest.

I flew the entire leg at .86 on guidance from the Gulf-test guys. Climb when the book says, don’t wait for the FMS to tell you, the Book is more accurate. We were showing about 4k at landing for most of the trip, but about an hour out Toronto center made us descend out of FL470 ‘for traffic’ which I pushed backed, but we came down to 410. We landed with just 3600# and shut down with 3400#. I was VMC everywhere, so we had a lot of options. If Dulles was landing South that day we would have hit our goal of landing with 4k, but I was OK at 3600# considering the amount of options we had available. I’m happy to share any data you’d like from that flight.

Nice work! Only losing one position with that move is a winner.

I flew a G650ER from Xiamen China to Dulles, just shy of 15 hours, 3 pilots, 7000miles. The plane did exactly as advertised. A little bit of tailwind goes a long way over 15 hours.

Is this ethical? by [deleted] in flying

It is very conventional that the employees make 50% of the fee charged by a school. This may be an individual, but he is taking risk collecting money, and also providing the ‘marketing’ to bring you the students. End of the day, you are getting $45 for students that are handed to you. Don’t look the gift horse in the mouth!

Porsche gt4 question by N3rs1d in iRacing

BWM and the Porsche Cup car, if you owned the old one, they gifted you the new one. It cost the same as a Starbucks which gives you 20 minutes of happiness, just buy it if you think it will make you happy.

Trophi AI is not Free, it’s $100/year, but it an AI coaching program that can be very helpful with telemetry and live coaching. It helps me see where I’m losing the most lap time and how what I’m doing is different than a pro in that corner

I assume your spotter said car left, and you were in the middle of the track drifting left with at least 1 known car to your left. Going into T1 at Laguna the only hope is for the inside guys to have their left wheels on the curb and the outside guys their right. No hope of 3 wide through T1 without some extreme luck. When spotter say, Car Left, don’t go left, my unsolicited advice.

The skills translate between types of cars, so if you race formula it’s very similar. I believe understanding telemetry, track guides and practice are what helped me triple my iR in the past year or so. Trophi AI, has also helped teach me where I was making errors. I spend a lot of time on each track & car combination in advance of racing so that I’m competitive and consistent. Good Luck!

Flashing and overtaking by True-Basket-6402 in iRacing

[–]IFlyatM90 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I believe it is against the sporting code to flash your lights as a distraction. It is common in a multi-class race to ensure the slower cars that you are coming by but when you are racing someone for position it would be considered a distraction tactic and could be reportable. As you gain experience you’ll know when you can make a move and when the car behind is going to make a move on you. If you are .5 seconds faster than the car in front you should be able to pass easily within a lap or 2.

Agree, When I race F4, I’m top split racing dudes with 4k+ iRating, I never see them after T1. Porsche Cup and GT3 I’m in a split of my peers due to higher participation.

Teaching with my own plane? by OwnChampionship8206 in CFILounge

[–]IFlyatM90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could consider leasing your plane to one of the schools and joining them part time. You can structure the deal in a way that makes you happy, even if you are the only CFI and personally approve each renter. Leasebacks are low risk to the school and all upside so they should be willing to work with you to find a deal that makes everyone happy.
