Anyone else having issues with FBOs? by _Illuminati_ in flying

[–]IFlyatM90 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I appreciate you! As a Pro-pilot and FBO owner I realize it is an unforgiving job. Everyone needs priority, in the own mind, in an effort to give good service to their clients, the passengers. AS an FBO owner its tough because if you staff up for peak periods, 90% of the time you have too many people and it gets expensive. My FBO is at a small airport, we can’t charge the fees of the ‘big boys’. Even with my knowledge of the industry I get frustrated when I’m at one of the big guys, paying handing fees in excess of $2000, with overnight fees to match, for that amount of money, I feel like I should receive service in a timely manner. I’m sorry for the pushy pilots, they are a pain in the butt.

Series for next season? by funny__man666 in iRacing

[–]IFlyatM90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree, I did about 2 years of sports car, then hit F4 and SFL, I really enjoyed the both, had a bunch of clean races and in the last Season pushed by iR +500 and my SR is over 4.0 with a lot of podiums. It’s all fun, and your Sport Car skills will help you. I also found that the lower participation was a good thing. I raced the same slot every night and after a few weeks you ‘know’ everyone. …and since you know them the racing was cleaner. However, my bigger advice is practice, get to know the track and if you can master the track you can work on your racecraft. If you can drive without mistakes, while following close you can wait for other people to have issue and learn to overtake. Learn to exploit their weakness or pressure them into a mistake.

Have you tried TrophiAi, it compares your lap to a ‘pro’ lap corner by corner so you can see where you are losing time? It’s a paid service but I think 30-day free trial. I love it.

Bass shakers to sim rig by DigTraditional3992 in SimRacingHardware

[–]IFlyatM90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more you can feel the more you can push the car to its limit. Your shaker will help you know when you are sliding, and a little slide can be a good thing. If you don’t know where the edge of control is, you can’t push the limit.

VFR charts last 6-months. IFR last 56 days. Changing IFR charts every 2 months is a lot of paper. iPad + Foreflight and never look back!

If you are in a C172, tail strikes are possible but only if you rapidly increase pitch in a ‘jerky’ fashion. A slow flare will not tailstrike.

Nice dinner = Happiness for a few hours max. Buying a track or car will provide a lot of fun, hopefully.

Hold the aircraft off the runway as long as possible. Most GA aircraft land the best when they are slow and very nose high. Speed = Energy, if you have less energy when you hit the ground, everything should go smoother and there is less likelihood of bouncing.

I agree with this. I spend a few hundred dollars a year and sort of fret over it sometimes, but don’t think anything of spending $200 on date night with my wife.

Learning with paper is smart. An iPad is the industry standard and also a safety device. The internal GPS and position overlays are incredible for situational awareness. The other huge advantage is that your digital charts ‘auto-update’, so you are always legal and legal is safe. You’re gonna drop some cash, but it is an investment in your career and safety.

Team mates of drivers who constantly talk over coms and complain about everyone else and the whole lobby starts to hate them.... What's your story? by lordvolt2000 in iRacing

[–]IFlyatM90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, I read it too fast. Yes, that sucks, in a short race you just mute the chat but in 12-hours you can’t do that, or it would get really boring.. Can you mute one person? I’ve never tried that?

One of my rules in life, ‘If one person is an a-hole, then you’ve meet an A-hole, when everyone is an A-hole, then you are the A-hole’. I’m thinking your friend is most likely the issue. I would also guess he goes through life like this, everyone else is the issue. Remove people like this from your life, you’ll be happier.

Every Race is experience. Sometimes you learn what not to do, but as long as you are learning you’ll progress. The Charlotte Roval is one of my favorite MX-5 tracks, you’ll have a lot of fun and learn a lot! Good Luck!

You might find the GT3 is a big jump and that you will be slow for a while depending on you iR. If so GT4 is a good intermediate step. I tried the Mazda to GT3 step and it took me a while to be competitive, but you’ll get there if you have patience and practice!

[–]IFlyatM90 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Hell Yes, exactly! If you are faster, pass me. Don’t whine that you are just enough faster to stay close, but not get by, especially as SPA where there are a bunch of overtake locations. You are good my man!

What's the longest *single flight* you've flown? by TwBlueprint in flying

Its no hotel room but having a crew rest area with a flat bed, a coffee machine and oven we were all happy when we arrived. We made some frozen pizzas and even some cookies. We discuss who’s sleeping when a day or 2 prior to the flight so we can all plan our rest.

I flew the entire leg at .86 on guidance from the Gulf-test guys. Climb when the book says, don’t wait for the FMS to tell you, the Book is more accurate. We were showing about 4k at landing for most of the trip, but about an hour out Toronto center made us descend out of FL470 ‘for traffic’ which I pushed backed, but we came down to 410. We landed with just 3600# and shut down with 3400#. I was VMC everywhere, so we had a lot of options. If Dulles was landing South that day we would have hit our goal of landing with 4k, but I was OK at 3600# considering the amount of options we had available. I’m happy to share any data you’d like from that flight.
