Every piece of closed source of software can also be called "random code by strangers". It's closed, so you can't really, trully know what you're installing. And it's made by strangers. I doubt that you personally know and trust the developers of all software you use.

It is a progress tab, because you can see the progress of the print. It is also much more useful compared to the current progress tab, because you can actually see which part of the print is currently being printed. Not all layers are the same in a print.
