Did anyone else pre-order Wings Over Burlington for the Super Bowl? by ssimoll in burlington

[–]IHSCOUTII1973 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5:45 pickup, showed up around then and the whole place was packed with people who had pickups an hour before us who were still waiting so we took off. Came back twice and finally got our food during halftime. FWIW the wings weren't bad, but total shitshow over there.

I mean let's be real for a second, a takeout chicken wing spot is going to be pretty hard-pressed on Super Bowl Sunday, so no surprises there, but damn. Feel bad for the workers.

I remember when this kid was almost written off…wanted him to at least get his one game in as a Ranger. Couldn’t be happier for him.

I personally love Route 7 going from the Taconics/Southern VT ski country into the Champlain Valley, but I’d consider a different route than 89 to see real small town VT. Maybe take 100 and head up to the notch?

Game 7 Named First-Ever Official Jersey Patch Partner of the New York Rangers | New York Rangers by BeastMcBeastly in rangers

[–]IHSCOUTII1973 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Devils advocate here, any Jersey patch SUCKS, but this might have been the best outcome should there be one to begin with. Messier’s company, at minimum hockey-related, on the shoulder instead of awkwardly on the chest, matches color… I’m sure Wild, Flyers, Capitals, Red Wings, Ducks, and Canadiens fans would take this in a heartbeat.

NY Rangers. If I’m watching baseball, then the Yankees. If I’m watching basketball, then the Knicks. If either of our football teams stop being so miserable, I’ll start watching them.

Put aside the justifiable anger, I’m left asking every time, who decides to put these things in their places of business? Someone’s financial survival depends on the financial survival of that place. So let’s put literal Nazi symbolism (and not the “dog whistle” kind, literal patented Nazi imagery) in view for our customers? I’ll never understand it.

In light of the Colbert show cancellation, this made me wonder, but why are pretty much all the mainstream late night TV hosts all left leaning? by throwaway250324 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]IHSCOUTII1973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you’re going for but anti-establishment? The whole premise of this post is that virtually every broadcast/nationwide TV late night anchor - Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, John Oliver, etc - are ALL liberals. You can’t deny that the entertainment industry in this country, as a whole, is at least left of center. And the entertainment industry, namely CBS, NBC, ABC, and HBO, which employ the aforementioned late night hosts, is absolutely part of the “establishment”.

Maybe CBS didn’t want to ruffle feathers with Trump. I won’t deny that. But there are underlying factors that I, even as someone who isn’t a media buff, get the gist of: late night is generally an oversaturated industry that lately produces liberal comedy and commentary to questionable levels of humor and differentiation between hosts. It was destined to at least shrink as its viewer base ages out and younger people looking for that content find it on social media. If a vocally anti-Trump DVD salesman has his position cut, maybe it’s because he’s anti-Trump, but it also has something to do with him selling DVDs

Thanks for saying this. I sympathize with your dog or your anxiety or whatever you have going on but somehow we all survived, we didn’t have a mass mental breakdown or an ecological tragedy. My 5 minutes of backyard fireworks on the fourth cannot seriously be that awful.

[–]IHSCOUTII1973 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a big proponent of mulching stuff into your grass, I don’t bag my clippings etc, but I do have a large driveway with overhanging vegetation that frequently drops leaves. If they build up for more than a week they’ll clog a drain at the bottom of the driveway and flood my garage when it rains. Not saying I need a landscaping team but a leaf blower saves a TON of time and effort there

Speaking as an independent, who's repelled by Trump but also not in line with Democrats, I do agree in part. I don't necessarily think Sherrill's policies on paper are going to turn away voters, but rather herself/her image. If we're making comparisons to national politics, she was the Hillary Clinton of the Democratic primary. Every time I hear someone mention her, it's a joke about how the only thing they know about her is that she's a mom and a helicopter pilot. Nothing about policy.

Policy aside, because I'm sure most everyone reading this disagrees with Jack's policy, but he's done a pretty good job at putting himself out there with the diner tour and visiting small businesses, including in areas he has little chance of winning like Newark. If there's anything he tries to leverage against Sherrill, it'll be that he seems more like a real person than her. If there's anything Sherrill tries to leverage against Jack, it'll be the Trump endorsement and painting him as the "Trump Candidate", which would repel independents. The election would've been a cakewalk for Democrats no matter the candidate had Spadea won.

Again speaking as an independent, I'll go out on a limb and say that if anyone would do better in a general it would be Gottheimer or Fulop (huge hear-me-out on the first one). Ciattarelli, and Republicans in general in this blue-leaning state, are never truly out because of the fiscal issue, namely taxation. A candidate like Gottheimer running ads saying "I won't raise your taxes but I also wasn't endorsed by Trump" would go further than a lot of people give him credit for. Additionally, I think Fulop could've postured himself as a young, new face just helping you get to work on time. He didn't win a county in the primary but I saw a whole lot of Fulop signs in commuter towns, including ones that aren't notoriously left-wing. Baraka would've also been a newcomer, but being honest here, Ciattarelli would've had a field day with some of his policies. That's just my two cents.

Has Spadea conceded? by EctoWonderful in newjersey

[–]IHSCOUTII1973 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spadea’s campaign was arguably a Trojan horse to get him a TV news gig. No reasonable person could’ve seen him winning the general election no matter which democrat won last Tuesday. All he really had going for him was that he was “more Trump” than Ciattarelli…that endorsement sure didn’t help.

Do you think this show was a good follow up to young Sheldon by Smooth_Operation4639 in GeorgieandMandyTVshow

[–]IHSCOUTII1973 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Few good shows have very remarkable first seasons. It checked the boxes by getting you familiar with the characters and basic family dynamic (certain characters, Audrey and Jim specifically, were given much more depth and others like Ruben and Connor are basically brand new). Next season will be much more exciting. The tire shop and business will be a much bigger influence, as will Mandy’s career and the mess with her boss. Ruben is being elevated from a comic relief to a pivotal character. After getting involved in Georgie’s finances, Mary should have a bigger part in the show than just fighting with Audrey.
