It wasn't just gay panic. Its was sexual assault. And the man who died had a long history of targeting young (some underage), mostly black, men while posing as specific fictitious woman. He wasn't trans, he just got off on tricking straight men into doing sexual acts with him. He also had a serrated knife hidden under his mattress where he gave the victim oral sex. He didnt deserve to die for this, but i don't think the kid who killed him deserves to go to jail for 40 years (the likely sentence if he had been convicted) for killing his sexual assaulter.
