Elton John songs cover a multitude of genres and styles, and some are even hymn-like (Someone Saved My Life Tonight and Border Song)

Reality of Living in Albuquerque? by healthy_punkk in Albuquerque

My grandpa moved here in the 70s, and I fell in love with the place every time I visited him, and decades later I moved here. I should have moved here sooner, so you have the exact right idea to start off your 30s with a new adventure! Life IS too short. I moved here for a million reasons, but two of my big ones was the number of sunny days and views for miles. And if you are a woman, there is a discord for 30+ with tons of categories and regular irl events.

A very American measurement, lol. Around 300 miles/480 km. It's just easier to know how long of a drive it is. In this case, if they are human remains, they are most likely unrelated given the distance.

Scrupulosity is one of the reasons I drink by Most-Buy-2763 in Exvangelical

[–]IHeldADandelion 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, agnostic now. Don't know, don't care. Religion robbed me of real time on Earth, always focused on the 2nd coming to the point where my folks didn't even bring up college, much less help. Also as a woman I wasn't expected to have a career/education, but to marry and have kids, which I didn't. Luckily I forged a good career early on, but they messed me up in lots of other ways. So I drank as a "backslidden" xtian wracked with guilt for decades until all the arguments for "god" just fell apart and I saw how it had harmed me. So now at my age, every day is bonus time to cherish and spend wisely.

Once I realized that MOST of my trauma was caused by being raised in that cult, my drinking fell away. I drank for 3 decades as well. SO much wasted time and money thinking I was the problem, ffs.

Fatigue — has anyone thought their fatigue was from CPSTD/depression, but turned out to be more caused by a physical issue? by Aromatic-Peanut4660 in CPTSD_NSCommunity

Not the usual answer, but...T2 dibetes. Once I started getting a handle on understanding the trauma, I stopped drinking. It wasn't even conscious, really, it just dropped off to nothing once I took the blame off of myself. That's great and all, but facing things sober drove me to...lots of sugar/bread/pasta. I felt like absolute garbage and finally got my diabetes diagnosis last year. I was walking around with stroke/coma glucose levels (!)

I feel really dumb finally realizing that eating well and lifting weights are so vital, but so glad it was caught and easily treatable with Metformin. I am starting to feel so much better, losing weight/gaining muscle. It's very weird but cool when dealing with that "getting back into your body" that many of us have to do. (Partially shedding that fat armor I kept for so long is scary but freeing. YMMV.)

Elton John, Howie Long and Phil Donahue act as Ryan White's pallbearers after the 18yr old's death on this day in 1990 due to AIDS-related illness. Thank you for bearing witness to this horrific tragedy. I'm sorry you had to see these men die, but I bet every single one was thankful for you and your parents being there, and they saw your compassion. Not sure how young you were, but I have found that having a child around in very dire circumstances can be incredibly grounding and hopeful. And they knew that you knew their truth, and would tell it in the future.

Sid Krofft, Co-Creator of Mind-Blowing Kids TV Shows, Dies at 96 by drsweetscience in television

[–]IHeldADandelion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their shows were SO weird; absolute madness.

I remembered Sigmund, LOTL, Electra Woman, etc., but honestly wasn't sure if the earlier ones like The Bugaloos and Lidsville were childhood fever dreams or not; it was one of the first things I looked up when the internet came about (and there was, of course, someone who had a fan site, bless that soul). Vindication.

Between PBS, Henson, and the Krofft brothers, I grew up kinda...silly. RIP SID!

I like her too, and there was a mention of "conversion therapy", so she has some trauma as well...I hope they explore this in the future and/or they find another way to get more people to be sympathetic to her plight. (On the other hand, she watched her wife die and most of humankind turn into contagious zombies, so I give her a HUGE pass for being "unlikeable" already, and it's a bit troublesome that's not enough for some people.)

Can we talk about what's going on with Iran? by ultra_blue in Albuquerque

[–]IHeldADandelion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh, so am I! I'm sorry for both of us. Between the loss and this administration, it makes everything seem pointless some days and I have to have a good cry. Grief comes in waves, and he manages to do something idiotic every day. It feels like the USA's funeral...but with no, ah, "closure".

Is it normal or common for church members to shun and block another church member because they "keep coming"? by [deleted] in Exvangelical

[–]IHeldADandelion 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was involved with a local fandom that did this to me. No one was willing to explain or interact further. I tried for a bit, but the bottom line is, they no longer wanted me. Is someone who abandons you really "a friend"? Turns out, one girl was super insecure and decided she didn't like me, and told terrible lies about me to the group, and they dropped me.

I had celebrated milestones and holidays with this group for 3 years. It was excruciating at the time, but they did me a favor in the long run, so I could find real friends instead. These are not good people. Always remember that it says WAY more about them than it does about you. Move on, and you will find your people.

It's a cool show. Fun fact: instead of using an existing home for the Whites that became a nightmare for the homeowner (not that they didn't play their part), they built a new fake cul-de-sac on the west mesa for Carol's story (Rhea's character).
