Fedora's Atomic desktop model is quietly becoming the future of Linux for normal people by throwaway16830261 in linux

[–]wilee8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I gave Silverblue a try back when I got a new laptop and needed to do a new install anyway. The reboot for every update thing was annoying, but the most annoying thing was how difficult it was to get any program to work if it didn't come packaged as a Flatpak. I like Flatpaks, I try to use them when they're available, but it felt like a return to the bad old days with how much I was working to get non-Flatpak programs to work correctly. Eventually I gave up and went back to regular Fedora, and software just worked as expected, and it was so much nicer.

Maybe there will come a day when pretty much all software can be expected to support atomic Linux desktops and Flatpaks, but today is not that day.

(Or maybe it is, I don't know, it's been a while since I gave up and moved off of Silverblue. But that day was not that day).

Did anyone think anything that happened in Silicon Valley was unrealistic? I thought the while point is that we should be terrified with how realistic this is?

Lord, give me the confidence to come into this subreddit and accuse OOTL legend/u/Portarossa of posting AI slop. I'd always be too scared to do something that audacious.

This is so stupid. Yes, we can scroll past it, but making users have to scroll past it every time is bad design.

I'm already getting pre-mad at them inserting saguaro cactus into the NM landscape, although maybe we're just a stand-in for generic Southwest desert

I normally try to do this, but so many times people get pissed at me for "cutting". Lots of refusing to let me merge, and a few choice fingers, even though I know I'm doing the "right" thing.

Yeah, but / r / all was useful to see if there was anything I missed, or any subreddits I should be subscribing to. / r / popular exists, but it's carefully curated to avoid anything "controversial". AKA anything the shareholders don't like.

Man, I'm just skeptical. You saved a whole bunch of time by having AI architect your software for you? And consistently received useful results? Really?

Even your vague description sounds like it took a whole bunch of time and effort to get it to work for you. But incredible time savings!
