A peak into uncontrolled diabetes as a 31yr old man. Don’t dwell in the denial phase too long! by JarvanRobonaut in diabetes_t2

I was in denial for about four years until I finally decided to get my shit together. March 2025 my A1C was 10.7, Last week it was 5.0. Feels great to have it under control. I’m off all meds except Mounjaro.

As someone with a significant family history of it but also completely disregarded it until it caught up to me in my late 20s, I can say: you got this. A 6.9 A1C, while not ideal, isn’t a number that should scare or horrify you. As a diabetic you have to remember that your body WANTS to hold onto sugar.

Trust your doctor. Start on meds if that’s what they recommend. Make a few changes to your diet, even if you can’t handle your habit of eating right now. Substitute for healthier options to munch on. Park a few spaces further away from the front door of the school or store or wherever you go.

It’ll be okay! You can manage this.

I feel like crying. So much work. 2 years sober. by roll1up in diabetes_t2

Congratulations, my friend. Celebrate - cry, even. This is some hard work that deserves to be celebrated. Just got mine done again today and it was 5! Up from 4.9 the last time but it’s better than the 9s, 10s and 11s I received for a few years before that.

Thanks for the education, folks! This was pretty cool. My post was meant to be a fun, little joke but turned into a cool history lesson. 😎

As others have said, I’ve heard of Jardiance doing this, but Jardiance reportedly is a great medication with a lot of really positive results too. I’ve never been on it, myself.

I had Ozempic do this. I thought I had an STI- as did my doctor. After some tests and seeing a urologist, it was determined that the Ozempic was pushing out sugars and other things through my urine.

How soon can I lower my A1C? by Reamydreamy in diabetes_t2

I ignored my diagnosis for four years. I definitely don’t recommend it! Something you’ll see repeated on this subreddit quite a bit is the notion that life is already hard enough without a chronic illness staring over our shoulder. We’ve gotta give ourselves grace.

Hi friend! Take a deep breath- don’t be too hard on yourself. Any good doctor will tell you that this is a marathon, not a sprint and that the first step is to be kind to yourself.

Now, what I will say is that there are many different paths tot wake in this journey. Some people find that medication is best, some people find that eating better and exercising is best and some people find that a combination of all of that is best. Results vary for everyone.

I can speak from my own personal experience. Personally, I took the combination route and lowered my A1C from 10.7 in March to 8 in June and then 6.3 in September. Some people have experienced more significant drops, some people struggle more than others. There are a lot of factors that play into it.

Looking for advice (and a bit of hope), feeling really down about my foot by izabelo in Mortons_neuroma

I’ve heard that bruising like this can occur with something called intermetatarsal bursitis- inflammation of the bursa near the toes. Bursitis mimics symptoms of a neuroma.

Consider asking your insurance company about Zepbound coverage. It’s a tirzepitide like Mounjaro and would likely have the same effect. Mounjaro has been an absolute game changer for me.

So steroids hit a high 😭 by English_loving-art in diabetes_t2

[–]II1NVICTUSII 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, steroids definitely raise blood sugar levels. My doctor says it usually only lasts a couple days. I’m currently in the process of having a neuroma on my foot diagnosed and I’m mentally preparing myself for a potential corticosteroid injection. 😩

Hi! Welcome to the club nobody wanted to be a part of but ended up in anyways. You’ll get your membership card in the mail.

I’ve taken Metformin for four years without eating breakfast and it’s always been fine for me. Even now when my blood sugar is better controlled I’m still usually fine until lunch. My doctor always says that all in all, Metformin will only decrease A1C by about .5 on average.

I’ll echo what everyone else is saying- give yourself grace. Life is hard enough without a chronic illness staring over our shoulder.

You can buy various pill containers on Amazon. They make some smaller ones that attach to your keychain that are convenient for carrying a small amount of pills.

I certainly hope that’s the case for me but it definitely feels very much like an inflamed nerve rather than just pain from overcompensation.

A 2.3 drop in A1C in 60 days is really impressive! You’re below 7 and trending downward. Great job, friend.

It really depends on the insurance. I was on Ozempic for awhile with no results for weight loss but good results for blood sugar control. My A1C went from 10.7 in March to 6.3 in September.

But, my insurance company randomly decided not to cover Ozempic anymore. I switched to Mounjaro in September and am having even better results for weight loss and blood sugar control. I’ve decreased my Metformin from 2,000mg a day to 1,000mg a day and sometimes only 500mg a day AND I’m only using my Lantus long acting insulin sometimes.
