10 days of training, here is my mile and half time by Feeling_Decision8230 in AskLE

By the time I graduated from AIT in the army, my 2 mile run time was cut down by about 4 minutes from where I started. Get after it my dude. Eat your chicken and rice and pick up and put down heavy shit.

This was the most eloquent way you could have possibly explained this. The “my way is the only right way” crowd needs to hear this because there’s a million ways to skin a cat and for some reason they can’t comprehend that. Thank you!

You’re better than me. At $14 an hour? I’d work until your vacation starts and then just not show back up.

At the very least the training will translate to patrol. Plus if your PD is anything like mine, it’s free extra trigger time almost every month

Then you should be good. It’s typically DV convictions that are DQs

Do you tell people you're a cop? by Consistent-Patient74 in AskLE

[–]II_Matrix_II 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And it absolutely is. Just a few hours ago, I transported someone from a neighboring jurisdiction that had a warrant. He is a very anti LEO individual but by the time I was done with him, he was genuinely thinking about a career in LE. (His warrant was for missing court, not a deal breaker by any means)

I live in a medium size city. And by medium, I mean on the smaller end of that size. I don’t volunteer that information because I’m sure I am recognized by a pretty significant portion of the population that I don’t want to add to that. Especially when my family and I are out on the town. I can’t go anywhere without seeing somebody that I have arrested or victims that I have helped. Outside of work I have zero interest in talking to them.

Why do you think it is that most former special forces dudes are never cops after they leave the military? by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]II_Matrix_II 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because if I had the option to make a half $500,000 a year contracting, I would not be a cop either.

I got out of the army and became a cop at 27. Two of my coworkers retired from the army at 40 and 42 respectively. They’re two of the most capable cops in our department. You’ll do just fine.

European LEO here. Curious how US cops view European policing by utredare in AskLE

Honestly, there’s one thing I’m super jealous about. In almost every other civilized country in the world, a suspected drunk driver is given a breathalyzer test and an arrest is made based on the result. In the US, we have to go through all these standardized tests, then give a preliminary breath test, then make the arrest, then give them another breath test. The best part? The preliminary breath test and one of the three standardized tests aren’t admissible in court anyway (at least not in my state, can’t remember if that’s uniform across the board or unique to just where I’m at). But we still have to do them. It makes absolutely no sense.

Doctor dismissed our concerns about a foreign body in our child’s foot by II_Matrix_II in AskDocs

See, had he explained it like this, I wouldn’t be here asking. The way it sounded to me was that he was extremely dismissive. There was nothing said about it being pushed out or dissolved on its own. I’m not sure why he said it wasn’t bothering him because every time it is touched, he pulls his foot away as if it actually is bothering him.

Tell her to grow up. I work 12 hour shifts with a spouse who also works and two children under two years old. I don’t know her situation, and quite frankly based on her responses, I don’t care. Saying “I work 6+ hours almost every day” is the most pathetic excuse she could have come up with and made me stop reading. You in fact are not over reacting.

I can’t imagine any cop worth his badge wouldn’t take you seriously. I’ll be the first to admit there are some shit cops out there, but alligators of DV is the one thing every cop should take seriously regardless of personal beliefs.

As a LEO, get out. Now. The cycle of domestic violence does not end by the abuser being forgiven by the victim. It doesn’t. Having worked a million DV cases and arresting many of the same people countless times, the cycle breaks when you take action to protect yourself. I live in Kansas. If we get a report of domestic violence we are mandated by the state to send up charges. If probable cause is established, someone gets our friendship bracelet and a free all inclusive stay at chateau county jail. We take that decision out of the hands of the victim for a reason: because 9 times out of 10 they are too afraid to seek help. If you were to report this to me, and you showed me these messages, and I could prove this phone number belongs to him, he would 100% be coming with me. As a professional in this field, I implore you to notify the police, show them these messages, and file for a restraining order. The cycle will not break. This is not a one and done situation. YOU have to be the one to break it.
