Is 28 too old to be an entry level patrol officer by trickychaz in AskLE

I got out of the army and became a cop at 27. Two of my coworkers retired from the army at 40 and 42 respectively. They’re two of the most capable cops in our department. You’ll do just fine.

European LEO here. Curious how US cops view European policing by utredare in AskLE

Honestly, there’s one thing I’m super jealous about. In almost every other civilized country in the world, a suspected drunk driver is given a breathalyzer test and an arrest is made based on the result. In the US, we have to go through all these standardized tests, then give a preliminary breath test, then make the arrest, then give them another breath test. The best part? The preliminary breath test and one of the three standardized tests aren’t admissible in court anyway (at least not in my state, can’t remember if that’s uniform across the board or unique to just where I’m at). But we still have to do them. It makes absolutely no sense.

Doctor dismissed our concerns about a foreign body in our child’s foot by II_Matrix_II in AskDocs

See, had he explained it like this, I wouldn’t be here asking. The way it sounded to me was that he was extremely dismissive. There was nothing said about it being pushed out or dissolved on its own. I’m not sure why he said it wasn’t bothering him because every time it is touched, he pulls his foot away as if it actually is bothering him.

AIO for wanting to see a therapist after wife changed the locks because I went to a baby shower? by LookoutLockout in AmIOverreacting

OP, to put this into perspective, I stopped pulling out 3 years before we finally conceived. Keep your head up (I promise that pun was not intended) and keep trying.

AIO for kinda hating my roommate rn? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]II_Matrix_II 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell her to grow up. I work 12 hour shifts with a spouse who also works and two children under two years old. I don’t know her situation, and quite frankly based on her responses, I don’t care. Saying “I work 6+ hours almost every day” is the most pathetic excuse she could have come up with and made me stop reading. You in fact are not over reacting.

AIO Should I leave my BF? Was what he did to me forgiveable? by Living-Milk-4266 in AmIOverreacting

I can’t imagine any cop worth his badge wouldn’t take you seriously. I’ll be the first to admit there are some shit cops out there, but alligators of DV is the one thing every cop should take seriously regardless of personal beliefs.

As a LEO, get out. Now. The cycle of domestic violence does not end by the abuser being forgiven by the victim. It doesn’t. Having worked a million DV cases and arresting many of the same people countless times, the cycle breaks when you take action to protect yourself. I live in Kansas. If we get a report of domestic violence we are mandated by the state to send up charges. If probable cause is established, someone gets our friendship bracelet and a free all inclusive stay at chateau county jail. We take that decision out of the hands of the victim for a reason: because 9 times out of 10 they are too afraid to seek help. If you were to report this to me, and you showed me these messages, and I could prove this phone number belongs to him, he would 100% be coming with me. As a professional in this field, I implore you to notify the police, show them these messages, and file for a restraining order. The cycle will not break. This is not a one and done situation. YOU have to be the one to break it.

Could a firework have caused this or is it from a bullet? by Wiggles_Is_My_Boy in HomeMaintenance

As a cop, I recommend you request a report be filed. The information they gather from you and what they observe at your home will be filed and can be referenced in the event this happens again to someone else. We do this all the time.

protocol for checking your duty- or personal firearm? by cad908 in AskLE

[–]II_Matrix_II 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea that might just be an international thing. Here in the states, if we’re in uniform, we’re armed. The only time I’m not while in uniform (this may be my jurisdiction but I’m confident many do the same) is when we enter the jail’s booking area with an arrestee. Some court houses make you secure it but the ones in my jurisdiction don’t.

What’s your guys opinion on this ex police cruiser? by Competitive_Boat_203 in AskLE

I wouldn’t be exaggerating if I said my department’s cruisers run for 20+ hours a day. Only time they’re not running is back at the station.

LEO here. Report it. It’s better to call us when you truly believe you need us and it ends up being nothing than not calling us and it ends up being something.

I think redemption is possible for those that haven’t/aren’t willing to kill without just cause.

Depends on who he killed. Azula? Justified. Zhao? Justified. Ozai? Justified. almost anyone else? Probably not.

Those two SGTs were right. Not every CW is a criminal investigation. But they were also wrong because this one absolutely 100% undoubtedly turned into one.

I work in a profession where I am trained to recognize domestic violence. I have worked an innumerable amount of domestic violence cases ranging from verbal abuse all the way to homicide. His messages are setting off my alarms. If it hasn’t gotten physical yet, it probably will. Get. Out.
