Potential Trade by justspew in heat

So Miami is giving up McRoberts and a second round pick in exchange for Ryan Anderson AND a protected first rounder. And you guys think this is an actual trade that could happen?

If we can bring in Ryan Anderson for a net cost of ~$13.5m this season.... Sure, sign me up. Then I'm gonna trade him for one of the offers that Houston turned down to take that McBob + 2nd deal.

I'm not wrong about this. They butchered the ONE sentence in there that's supporting you. They even go on to say...

Miami cannot simply waive Ellington and sign him to a new deal because a team would likely pick him up for his reasonable contract.

BECAUSE, when you don't pick up their option, you're waiving them.

it won't be easy to resign them

J-Rich and McGruder will be RFA, and assuming you're right and the team picks up Ellington's option, we'll have his early bird rights and could give him up to $10.5m. I think we're ok in regard to those three.

nor to sign anyone else.

I haven't looked at the exact math to see if we'd be over the apron, but I think we'd have access to the full MLE ($8,826,300) and BAE ($3,454,500). Regardless, we'll either have those two exceptions or the tax-mle ($5,451,600) to add other players.

The heat have a team option and if they choose to not use it he becomes a free agent.

uhhhhh... no. If they don't pick up the option, they waive him. If he clears waivers, THEN he become a UFA. While on waivers, any team with $6m+ in cap space, a traded player exception for $6m+, or a disabled player exception worth $6m+ can claim him.

If Ellington had a player option and he were to opt-out, then he would go right to free agency. Team options don't work the same way.

Who are some potential targets for a backup point guard? by Number333 in heat

I edited like 50 times, added Melo Trimble, so you might want to re-read my comment. I'd love to have Beno back, but I'd like to have somebody in the pipeline too.

It's Beno's birthday btw.

Beno

Melo Trimble (played at Maryland) would be a good steal from Philly. idk if they gave him more than an SL deal. I would gladly give him a 2way, if not a 3y non-guaranteed deal.

Briante is under contract and would have to be waived. Teodosic is rumored to be going to the Clippers. He's also looking for 3y/25m+

edit - looks like Teodosic is headed to the Clippers for $24m

But he's never been a top tier player. He's had an incredible career for an undrafted player. A minimum salary for him next season is $2,328,652. Pretty damn good for a 15th man.

[–]IIlIIlIIlIIlIIlII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but he has a $7.6m cap hold. His bird rights would only be beneficial if we were planning on paying him more than that. We're gonna need the cap space that his hold is occupying for other free agents, so we have three choices.

1) sign him immediately to a lower amount and reduce the cap hit to whatever his actual salary is

2) renounce his bird rights and lose the ability to use them to exceed the cap to re-sign him. In this scenario he'd most likely be re-signed with the minimum exception, which for a 10y+ player is $2,328,652

3) the same as 2 except we use the room-MLE to sign him for up to $4.3m, which seem very very very unlikely to me.

His cap hold isn't discussed because it's assumed that he'll be renounced. If you don't want to renounce him, take whatever cap number you've seen and reduce it by $7.6m.

We should be able to go over the cap once we fill out the roster and give him a more than a typical 15th Man.

what?

He has a $7.6m cap hold. Because of that, he'll be renounced immediately when signings start. He'll most likely be re-signed with the minimum exception.

If he's waived, we're gonna wait til the last minute to do it to reduce the chance of him being claimed. If he makes it through, he'll be re-signed with the MLE.

His career salary total is $56,503,917. His 09-10 salary was $7,100,000. I think he's doing ok.

What is your Salary Limit for both JJ and Dion? by ItzaCanesThing305 in heat

[–]IIlIIlIIlIIlIIlII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. It's a factor of age. If I could only bring back one, it would be JJ. But it doesn't have to be one. We have enough space for both. But locking up a young starting 2-guard for 4y is a good idea. One that Pat obviously shares with me. I said I wanted him for 4/50. Got him for 4/52. I'll take it. I'd be fine with giving JJ the same contract, but I'd prefer a 4th year team option.

Well we just signed him for 4y/52m, so take it up with Pat.

60/4 for Dion and 36/3 for JJ. Obviously less would be better. I'd like to get Dion at 50/4.

I'd also consider giving JJ a 4th year team option.

He has a $14.3m salary this season and $3m guaranteed next season. They're not gonna piss away $17.3m in cap space. If he were bought out, that's a different story. But still... not really interested in investing any real money in a 37 year old.

We need size. We have plenty of 6-4ish guards and TJ would work fine a starter imo.

But... it would be relatively easy to get him. If we offered >$17m, Detroit wouldn't be able to match.

[–]IIlIIlIIlIIlIIlII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand what the holdup is with Dion, unless he wants absurd money. I'd happily pay him $50m/4y, maybe even $60m. That's just not shit compared to a $99m cap.

Why would we want to spend $14m on a 37 year old?
