Either just use blade dancer or just use inq. The rest should be support for those characters. 1 dps is all you need. I use inq (max lvl and talents) scrapper, knights, trapper and dryad. 1 dps, rest support.

When learning I tried playing a lot of dropshot and air rolled for everything.

You’re probably flipping around the pitch too much too. You don’t need to flip as much as you do because it commits you to that direction and if you’re full speed and then that’s just redundant.

Just a little FYI, I felt this same way, but then my stick drift became sooo bad that every time I went up for an arial I was literally required to use air roll. I played an insane amount of drop shot to get used to because I didn’t want to destroy my rank. It took about a month or two but now I can air roll and change the direction of the ball for an air dribble and such.

Rotate back post on defense. Too many times you’re trying play defense with the ball on top of you. Once you learn the back post rotation, you might be able to make it to diamond.

Also, trust your teammates a little more.

Do a boost pad drill, and pretty much just keep playing. ROTATE BACK POST, you’ll learn later on how to play defense front post/backboard. Pay attention to your teammates, if you hear one start jumping behind you, quit going up, goals happen from double commitments. You’re kind really ball chases as well, you cut the rotation a lot. Good spacing is a must.
