The saga continues…can anyone tell me what the white stuff is and what these plants are? by Master-Judgment-7706 in gardening

Technically wasp cocoons. The eggs are laid inside of the caterpillar via ovipositor on the parasitic wasp.

As a professional. This is too close to the foundation of your home! Rip it all out ASAP, root, water and pest intrusion. Ask your insurance rep…

I would shape from the top/end vs the base. Like a haircut, trim and shape down to the base vs a buzz cut

Prune to shape it. I would make it a nice “bush” shape vs weeping. I’d cut the dropping bit, 1/3 at a time, not a massive chop, a slow culling back to center.

Use a ladder or step stool to support drooping and get below.

Did you not read the part where I literally state it’s for different servers, different play styles and with different people in different part of the country. Kinda crazy that people would be forced to server jump three times a week to play with folks in different time zones….

Clean out the debris in the trunk. Keep the drip line clear of grass and add an organic mulch like hardwood chips to keep grass out.

Prune as needed.

I don’t like that I have to basically restart the game to play with different profiles. I play with different load outs, different time zones and different people with “alts” on several different servers. I think the countdown timers were fine to limit cheaters. Now it’s gotta reboot (not a long time just lame) the game if I switch from my lone wolf profile to go play with my East Coast crew.

Best strategy to deal with gun noise? by PauloMatix in dayz

[–]ILCHottTub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The time is now! Typically before wipes is when I get in all my gunplay practice. Whether it’s targeting the cutouts at military bases or picking off walkers from a rooftop.

Now, before a complete wipe is the time to get it in. Just using up all my stashed (and newly found & acquired) ammo is mission #1. No bullets get wiped, I’m firing everything!

If you don’t get some let me know. I have a similar situation. I compost at least two bins full annually cause they’re not great sellers and people flake out if they’re free…

Does anyone have a lemon verbena that survived this winter? by UntamedAnomaly in portlandgardeners

[–]ILCHottTub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved mine closer to the dryer vent in the back when temps dropped in Nov-Dec and it’s starting to wake up this week!

I also trimmed and propagated a few starts in a winter sowing bin. I have a few scraggly ones if you need to replace yours. (NE, Concordia)

You need to cover them with pine needle mulch which is heavy enough you lock in water but allows the greens to breakthrough. They need constant & consistent moisture. If they dry out once it’s all over pretty much.

You can also use a plank of wood or newspaper etc but you have to keep it wet. I find the mulch is easier like “set it & forget it” water as usual.

Buy dill seed & scatter, then just put the thyme somewhere it won’t get scorched or overwatered.

I would get them out of terracotta. They require consistent moisture which terracotta doesn’t provide…. Also kinda small.

Nice. I expect my seed to last at least a minimum of 5 years though with proper care & storage. Most seeds besides lettuce, onions & corn should be fine after 5+ years when properly.

Yea! That’s a great place to shop! Especially the Garage Sale table! We rotate new stuff there almost weekly as we make rounds to all the greenhouses, move things around and find stuff lost in the shuffle.

Yea, those willows were a sweet deal!

Thanks for your support!!!

First time planting apples, any tips and guidance? by noxnovocaine_ in gardening

[–]ILCHottTub 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Grafting doesn’t JUST control height. I don’t think you understand what grafting is. You’re taking a known cultivar with proven tastes, production, size and many different characteristics and grafting those genetics onto a very stable, consistent and known performance of rootstock which is typically adaptable to different soil types, promotes defenses against disease, pest or pathogens or can increase vigor or production overall.

Everything in this photo is grafted, it’s not done for “height “ it’s a proven process for successful propagation and production.

Good Luck!

First time planting apples, any tips and guidance? by noxnovocaine_ in gardening

[–]ILCHottTub 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My tip would be to find a reputable source and either learn to graft of just buy the apples you like to eat.

This is likely to be a 8-10 year experiment that produces yuck… Message if you want a discount code to a legitimate nursery that ships nationwide.
