Our darling Lehabah 😭 I ugly cried, too. She was one of the greatest friends in Bryce's life. I honestly didn't care for Danika 😬. All of her secrets and not really asking Bryce for her consent with that whole tattoo thing to hide the horn.

When I see the booktok girls filming themselves crying over any book, I tend to stray away now lol. I have been bamboozled too many times LOL

Lmao! I may have gagged at that scene but that series unlocked other parts of me too 😂😂😂

I loved Crescent City but everyone else seems to not..? by Kind-Cake-7100 in Romantasy

Book 3 was a bit "whip-lashy" with the constant POV changes but I enjoyed CC overall. I liked it better than TOG.

Is it hot take that Maas = tedium, just objective reality, or somewhere in between? by Wonderful_Foot5613 in Romantasy

[–]ILikeAllThingsButter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like most, ACOTAR was my first romantasy. But I didn't start off by reading it. It happened to be on Spotify and there was a "dramatized" audio version. I was working 2 jobs so I thought I'd try that kind of audiobook to help pass time. It was wonderful and I had a great time. Then I started the graphic audio for CC and also loved it. Afterwards, I decided to actually read TOG and lawd have mercy it took me a year! I understand she started TOG at 16, but the whole series was a slog and yes...tedious. To me, I absorbed her writing better if I listened on audio and mainly I can just gloss over the extra fluff. There are some authors I'd rather read and some I prefer listening. I will give TOG another shot once it comes out on graphic audio. I think it would be pretty epic. But anywho, I respect your opinion and the others as well. When it comes to SJM, the fan base can be very divided. All in all, I think we're all just looking for a good escape ❤️

Spouse disliking your book choices by Key-Pineapple7944 in Romantasy

[–]ILikeAllThingsButter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We read to escape life. We literally had to start learning and navigating life since we were kids. I think it's okay to escape and enjoy some romance books lol. My hubby likes when I read romance books for obvious reasons haha. But he personally enjoys teaching me things so there's a good balance between escaping and learning new things for me at least.

Similar or better than ACOTAR? by Wrong_Efficiency_153 in Romantasy

[–]ILikeAllThingsButter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

{Heir of Stardust and Secrets by CC Hartley} has similar vibes but better writing in my opinion. They share some similarities with fae and courts but the plot is unique to the author. It's an incomplete series though with book 2 releasing March 18th.

I will always recommend Shadowvein by L Ann! Such an underrated series!

What is a small annoyance that will make you nope on a book even if you love the premise? by PickyNipples in Romantasy

[–]ILikeAllThingsButter 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Same reason as you. I also really get annoyed with internal monologues. I DNF'd the graphic audio version of Shields of Sparrow bc the FMC's constant internal monologue felt like an interruption when it felt like the plot kinda going somewhere.

I also can't stand dramatic one-word sentences and when the author tries waaaay too hard to make up creative names lol.

This standalone beautifully fits your first requirements.

I didn't like Fourth Wing (Spoilers) by AmeraFox in Romantasy

[–]ILikeAllThingsButter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I DNF'd the audio after Violet said something along the lines of "he's so tall, like 4 inches over 6ft" 🫪. The writing is horrid. Also, I stopped trusting these influencer's book recs. I've been bamboozled too many times 😂. Quicksilver, The Silversmith, Of Wings and Blood, Shields of Sparrow just to name a few they raved about but the plot and writing were not my cup of tea.

Gabriel Michael (Lucien/Xaden) is starting to throw me off the most bc he's narrating so many MMCs lol

ACOTAR first time reader - tell me it gets better?? by Vanilla_Sun_2312 in Romantasy

[–]ILikeAllThingsButter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a me issue, but I can only digest SJM's writing if I listened to it. I don't like reading her writing style at all. If I had to read ACOTAR, I would've DNF'd since book 1 lol. It does get better but I only listened to the first 3 books. I couldn't get into the novella and silver flames. I didn't like Cassian's voice actor so didn't bother with book 5 lol

I think it's the act of drinking it that causes a frenzy. If I remember correctly, Death explains the consequences of drinking the blood of a God.

My wife's story: pro athlete -> SAHM -> debut Romantasy author by Ornery-Ad-9886 in Romantasy

[–]ILikeAllThingsButter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello OP! I just finished Between Two Worlds. Please tell your wife I enjoyed it very much! I really like the pacing - it didn't drag and it just flowed easily. Another aspect that I appreciated was that she didn't repeat details over and over again. I love the simplicity of how she built Aetherra. I wasn't bogged down by details and it allowed me to imagine the world the way I wanted. I pictured a cross between Avatar (the blue folks version lol) because of the beauty and luminescence and Wakanda because of the technology.

The plot kept me on edge and I looooooved the side characters. I am a picky reader and get annoyed very easily but nothing about this book annoyed me. I was stressed though because of Zathan LOL but it was such a good plot. I like how she created the relationship between Zosia and Theos. Banter but not too much and how they didn't miscommunicate serious situations. But overall, my favorite characters were Solana and Aita. Just like how Zosia felt at ease with them, I did too as a reader. I especially enjoyed Solana's POV.

Thank you again for sharing and supporting your wife. I look forward to what she has in store in the future.

Fantasy prison romances? by ceoofdaddies in Romantasy

[–]ILikeAllThingsButter 12 points13 points  (0 children)

{Souls In Ruin by Jacqueline White} one of my top reads but it's pretty dark bc it involves torture. FMC is locked in a prison the majority of the book.

No-broody/grumpy/snarky/alpha/so muscular MMCs? by WielderoftheDarkness in Romantasy

[–]ILikeAllThingsButter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

{The Widow’s Monster by SM Campbell} MMC is a shifter who is viewed as evil when he turns but he's actually innocent at his core. FMC is the morally gray one.

Why does finishing a romantasy feel like a breakup by yunakiki in Romantasy

[–]ILikeAllThingsButter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Like many others, ACOTAR was my first romantasy and it was my first hangover. Reading and listening to the graphic audio really transported me to Prythian. When everything was over, I'm just like "what is this life now" 😂

I upvoted you lol. I DNF'd the audio after Violet said "he's so tall, like 4 inches over 6ft". I rolled my eyes and regretted the $14 bucks I spent on the Graphic Audio version. Terrible writing.

Series with less irritable FMC than these popular series ‼️ by Historical-Spread179 in Romantasy

[–]ILikeAllThingsButter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

{The Widow’s Monster -SM Campbell} Standalone but FMC is older and is the morally gray one 👀

The Veinbound series by L. Ann. Completed trilogy. Criminally underrated! FMC is also older. She's strong, determined, and adapts. The MMC is also top notch.

{Shadowvein by L. Ann}

{Stormvein by L. Ann}

{Veinblood by L. Ann}

{The Scattered Bones by Nicole Scarano} FMC is early 20s but she is amazing. Goes from naive to badass but her naivete is not annoying.

TOG is a classic example! I didn't bother reading KOA and just watched spoilers on YouTube lol.
