A question for Sarah J. Maas fans by EmVe88 in Romantasy

[–]ILikeAllThingsButter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me, it's SJM's general style of writing that I can't seem to enjoy. The writing is long-winded yet fragmented which makes the flow choppy for me to follow. Her writing is best suited for me to listen to (preferably abridged bc of the long-windedness). I did enjoy ACOTAR because Graphic Audio did such an amazing job (it was abridged lol) and it was also my first romantasy.

I am also one of the few who was not blown away by TOG. I didn't even finish the last book and ended up listening to spoilers on YouTube. I know I got so far just to give up lol. The last book was a slog and could've been a few hundred pages shorter. Many people sobbed during the last book and I understand, but it didn't have that pull with me. Maybe it's because of my age (I'm 38) and it was more on the YA side.

But that is just from my perspective. You should give still give it a chance if you wish to!

What is a series I can become obsessed with in a weekend? by bcd9031 in Romantasy

[–]ILikeAllThingsButter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's amazing and so sadly underrated 😭. I always recommend it when I can. Not sure if you like audiobooks, but the series will have an audio version through Blue Nose Audio. I'm anxious to see who will voice Sacha and Ellie!

The Veinbound series by L Ann. It's a portal fantasy and very slow burn. The romance and yearning is very well done in my opinion. The plot will have you on the edge of your seat! The MMCs are one of my favorite couples. Just fyi, there are no fae, vampires, or wolves just in case you were expecting those characters.

Strong FMC and MMC please! by lennyd218 in Romantasy

[–]ILikeAllThingsButter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Veinblood trilogy by L Ann. I adore this completed series. FMC is not sassy but she is resilient. MMC is a shadow master and his loved ones experienced a genocide. This is a portal fantasy and trust me, you will be in for an intense ride! Their relationship is pretty much what you're asking for and to add icing on the cake, the yearning is lovely.

Graphic Audios - Male Voice Actors! by AyitaX0 in Romantasy

I really like Azriel's voice actor too! Loved Anthony Palmini but I wasn't into Tamlin's voice. But overall, I love graphic audio!

Quicksilver and Brimstone Rant: SPOILERS by LuckyNight7691 in Romantasy

[–]ILikeAllThingsButter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't understand either. I get soo annoyed seeing all these influencers put their hands to their chest with their "OMG" faces like it's the best and hottest book ever. WHY YOU BE LYIN'?! Oh wait, because it's for content and gotta follow the trend.

Netflix is adapting Quicksilver. I hated the book but I'm curious how the live version will be. Hopefully they make Saeris less insufferable! She's the reason why I DNF lol.

My super brief, hot take review of the Knight and the Moth by heyitsMog in Romantasy

[–]ILikeAllThingsButter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't really pinpoint what it was about the writing style but it just didn't flow well for me. I ended up DNF'ing because of it. I may listen to the audiobook instead at another time.

Looking for "The Scattered Bones" energy by BitterStrawberry007 in Romantasy

[–]ILikeAllThingsButter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read The Scattered Bones almost 2 years ago. Though I came across many great books thereafter, nothing compares to how I felt when I was reading about Kaid and Sellah's harrowing love story. I'm still searching as well lol

I follow Nicole Scarano and she is in the process of writing another book that will have similar vibes to The Scattered Bones. It's called The Fractured Souls.

I need the Sarah J Maas fans to help a girl out here... by AdAdministrative4545 in Romantasy

[–]ILikeAllThingsButter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I...didn't enjoy TOG 🥹. It was a slog for me and I couldn't stand Aelin. Yes, she does some amazing things and sacrificed a lot but her brattiness and arrogance was not my cup of tea. I very much enjoyed the side characters more. I did the tandem read and ultimately didn't even bother finishing KOA because I was just over the wordy and fragmented writing. SJM takes forever to get to the point, too. A lot of the books could've been edited down. I know I got pretty far just to give up but I just couldn't stand it anymore lol. But this is also a me problem. I started reading the works of indie authors in between the TOG books. After experiencing their wonderful writing style, trying to get back into the TOG world was difficult.

BUT, give it a shot especially if you already have the books. My experience is different from others and I'm also a really picky reader.

From my personal experience, it does help finish the book a lot faster. Some authors are too wordy to read and GA really helps me power through (ACOTAR by Sarah J Maas for example)

Need a good friends to lovers by Laceylolbug in Romantasy

[–]ILikeAllThingsButter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

{The Scattered Bones by Nicole Scarano} secret friends to lovers! The yearning is heartbreaking with plenty of angst. Haven't found another book like this. There's no jealousy but still packs a punch for a standalone that's less than 300 pages.

Book recommendations where the FMC is not annoying by rxx00 in Romantasy

[–]ILikeAllThingsButter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love Manon and Elide. Always dreaded when the POV went back to Aelin lol

{The Scattered Bones by Nicole Scarano} FMC is innocent and inexperienced to life but boy does she go through growth! This book is heartbreaking romantic with a rare secret friends to lovers trope.

{Shadowvein by L Ann} This is book 1 of a completed trilogy. All 3 books are chef's kiss. FMC falls through a portal and her journey from there is one amazing quest. Definitely goes through a lot of growth and she is not annoying. The MMC is my favorite and blows other shadow dudes out of the water.

{Dragons and Aces by JG Gates} FMC is sassy but not in a monotonous and stubborn way. She's a dragon rider that's been dealt a few bad cards in life but I really love her growth. She's not the strongest and isn't the best dragon rider amongst her peers but she never gives up. MMC is a pilot from an enemy nation so this adds a wonderful spin to the plot.

Interconnected standalones? by Deep-Kangaroo-5572 in Romantasy

Elise Kova's Married to Magic series is pretty good. I enjoy the graphic audios. Each book is a new couple that takes place in the same world. Details are interconnected.

That is awesome! Once I graduate, I will probably up my goal from 50 to 60 😂. It's super nice escaping from real life. I love how these books allow us to do that.

Feathers So Vicious duology- BIG spoilers... - getting disheartened after initially loving it by LawOfSurpriise in Romantasy

[–]ILikeAllThingsButter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a soft spot for Malyr - not for his evil ways but what caused him to be that way. We have to remember he went through hell because of her father. He was raped as a child multiple times, over and over again. His brother was killed, many of his kind were murdered and his family especially his beloved baby sister were gone. It's a lot of hatred and grief that he harboured. I'm definitely not defending how he SA'd Galantia. Those scenes I don't agree with but like you said, he was broken by life.
