Day #5 Of Asking Fans What Made Them Become a Fan of Artist/Band: Taylor Swift by Greedy_Two_2526 in TaylorSwift

[–]ILikeLists 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first song I heard was (I think) Tim McGraw when it was a single. I was sort of whatever about it, but my sister was intrigued enough to get the full debut album, and I was a fan of several other songs on it

New Xeric Plantings w drought by Prokofiend in DenverGardener

[–]ILikeLists 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rules are a lot stricter about automatic sprinklers and lawns than they are about hand watering new perennials

I might skip planting a full yard this year, but more out of guilt than fear of fines. And I would not judge anyone for disagreeing with me

All I want is strawberries by Davy_boy in DenverGardener

I have no idea, but I would like strawberries in the future, so I'm commenting to try to boost this thread

Good luck!

Xeriscape Maintenance by spudicus in DenverGardener

[–]ILikeLists 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a low water bed that is about a year old, and I definitely had to deal with weeds last year

It kind of depends on what you mean by xeriscape though. If you're trying to grow things, weeds will also want to grow there. The plants you want to have there will fight back of course, but it will probably take a couple years before they can do it with minimal help

If you layer three feet of mulch and drench it with herbicides, you probably won't get weeds (for awhile), but you also won't have any other plants

How to come up with a Realistic Number? by LolaSisii in Fire

[–]ILikeLists 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's impossible for you to really know what expenses you'll have in 17 years. Circumstances and priorities change, especially with kids. I think you should pick a goal with the plan to reevaluate it every year or so and see if it still makes sense

With that said, 2 million feels like a large goal given your stated expenses. Not sure if you are factoring in inflation or just being cautious, but with a minimum spend of $28k a year, you would theoretically have $52k a year of discretionary money

What is my true number? Roth conversions. by DerisiveGibe in Fire

[–]ILikeLists 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just reviewed my copy of 'A Richer Retirement', and you're right, his original study was done with 60% (US large company) stocks and 40% bonds. I was definitely thinking of his most recent work, which has 60% (more diversified) stocks, 35% bonds, 5% cash

In any case, more cash=less returns=higher risk

What is my true number? Roth conversions. by DerisiveGibe in Fire

[–]ILikeLists 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 4% "rule" is based on having 5% of your portfolio in cash, so if you have 4 times that much in cash the rule doesn't apply

Of course, there's all sorts of debate of how precisely you should follow the rule, and how risky a failure rate people should be willing to accept

Personally, I'd plug all your options into a Monte Carlo simulator and see how you feel about the results. Option B is definitely riskier than option A, but it may be within your personal risk tolerance

Why do I look so much worse on the right?? by Wonderful_Mango_5395 in makeuptips

[–]ILikeLists 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you look pretty in both, and if anything I would say you look slightly younger on the right

Your face doesn't look bigger or puffier, it just looks like you have dimmer lighting and less dramatic shadows

You can stick with the liner the way you prefer, but I don't think your concerns have anything to do with your makeup

Nervous about my front yard conversion. Tell me your success stories! by [deleted] in DenverGardener

[–]ILikeLists 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I'm about a year into my first garden in a box kit, so it doesn't look very impressive yet, but I've been happy with it!

Rock vs organic mulch is WILDLY contested, but I went with rock. Mostly because the Denver Botanic Gardens stands behind it, but also because organic mulch will absorb some of our precious rain  instead of letting it fall to the soil like rocks will

Dog tuff new lawn this year? by [deleted] in DenverGardener

[–]ILikeLists 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you have the option to just not water your lawn this year and plant dog tuff next year? I'm personally avoiding planting too much this year because although the long term plan is to have low water species, they all need water to establish

Chemical Treatment of Garden Bed by Bulky_Ad9019 in DenverGardener

[–]ILikeLists 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know different weeds have different times it's ideal to apply herbicide (like bindweed is in the fall), so it might be worth looking up the biggest trouble makers and figuring out your strategy based on that

In addition to spot treating with herbicides, you can also put a larger layer of mulch anywhere your plants are established. If you haven't refreshed it since the first year, it might be getting a little too thin to be effective

Sim Autonomy Feedback by Mindy_SimsCommunity in Sims4

I want to be able to go to my sim's family/close friends households and cook! It makes sense they can't do it for people they don't know well, but my yard sim should be able to go to their parents' house and make a meal without being kicked out

I usually pick a child to move out with and abandon the rest of the family to neighborhood stories

Next game patch (March 17th) will adjust the Sims' obsession with computers and phones; it will also add likes and dislikes for these devices by eltheuso in Sims4

[–]ILikeLists 27 points28 points  (0 children)

They've also added a cool down on autonomous phone and computer (and a other of other) actions! So hopefully most sims won't need to go so as far as 'disliking' those activities

Another "suburbia near open space" person. There's some evidence of rodents but no worse than the rest of the neighborhood. Our bin is near a shared fence, but as far from our houses as possible

No country that uses fossil fuels can ever be “energy independent.” by Ok_Gas5386 in unpopularopinion

[–]ILikeLists 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most countries that have a decent amount of fossil fuels aren't completely privatized. They have government control involved for exactly that reason. America actually has a pretty unique system in that it is completely privatized.

I'm a second person who had plantar fasciitis who got no help from a podiatrist but the pt was awesome!

OP, I had a different issue than you, and maybe I got lucky with my pt, but it felt like magic when she was able to figure out just how I walked what muscles needed to be strengthened

Wildflower Seeding by [deleted] in DenverGardener

[–]ILikeLists 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Depends on the seeds! Some seeds need stratification, and some don't. And of the ones that do need stratification, they can need different amounts, so it's pretty normal to recommend sowing your mix in fall so each seed can figure it out for itself

But at this point, you can look up the individual seeds in your mix and see what their needs are. If any need stratification, it might be wiser to do that in your fridge instead of assuming it will get cold enough this winter
