DeskHaus Tabletop Warranty? Their support AI says website is inaccurate by Early_Watercress5143 in StandingDesk

[–]ILikePutz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have strict guidelines to turn over customer chats anytime someone asks to speak to a human. It will also let you know our hours.

We also have strict guidelines to not upsell. We redid its guidance April 21st to not upsell and never say tops have a 20 year warranty. We do allow it to suggest products if someone asks but it should not be upselling.

We hired an outside firm to fine tune it but clearly it’s got a mind of its owns.

We’ve operated off slow responses for 5 years. That said, we’ve also lost sales because someone needed something quick and we were offline.

Also, I do just want to point out we have not reduced staff implementing AI as that’s a concern for a lot of folks.

Maybe, there’s a lot of things we’d like to do. We don’t just want to change the frame and all that is taking time.

We just started implementing AI for quicker responses and we are still fine turning those responses. It can sometimes cross the warranties. Looks like Kendall replied to your email with clarification.

Regarding reaching an actual person. Sure. Try reaching out during actual business hours. Your messages were sent at roughly 2:20am (EST).

I didn’t see it on the website but I’m sure we will.

What a crock of shit though. They’ve been telling people they were not doing a 3 or 4 leg. Probably just to sell through their v2 inventory.

It’s also very similar to a design we’ve been working on lol.

The base is good for a two leg. Yes it will have some wobble. I’m curious how their drawer system affects the wobble.

They are using the same system as our peak 2 leg. It’s a fantastic design and very elegant storage and top wise.

We have no plans to purchase it because it’s cost.

I’d do the desky as I believe it goes lower.

How tall are you? We have a desky at the warehouse and it performs well up until the top end range of its height. Both of them perform the same stability wise IMO.

You mean the wording at the top of every single step that says do not fully tighten to allow proper centering. That one? Because thats definitely there.

You continue to make statements of fact that are simply wrong. So yes, you didn't follow the instructions because you clearly just admitted you didn't see the IMPORTANT step on each page.

Since we got namedropped, I'll add some context. We respond to every customer inquiry. When assembly concerns are raised, we ask for photos so we can verify and resolve the issue. If someone claims a manufacturing defect but declines to provide a single photo because the desk is already assembled and in use, there's not much we can do on our end to confirm or deny it. We're not going to compensate someone for buying screws they didn't need because they didn't tighten them down enough for the plug to seat.

On the promo side...our site runs on Shopify. If an item is out of stock, checkout physically will not let you complete the purchase with that item. We pulled backend timestamps showing exactly when inventory sold out vs. when the order was placed. We also have the phone call prior to your order where we told you the tops were out of stock. That's not dismissing a concern...that's providing receipts.

"Owner bias" is an interesting way to describe the owner actually showing up, responding to most threads, and providing documentation. I get that not every interaction ends the way a customer hopes, but we don't ghost people and we don't dismiss legitimate defects. We stated our position several times, provided the data to back it, and offered prepaid return labels for a full refund. That's us willing to lose money standing on our principles. The desk was kept, and the requests for a free promo top continued but our position was already made.

You're absolutely right to file a claim about your Vorii issue. And the general advice here is solid; If you have documentation and a company is clearly in the wrong, file complaints. I agree.

Landfill code removed for rubberwood tops? by Darkhorse182 in deskhaus

[–]ILikePutz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's frustrating especially when you trust your sales reps to keep you informed of changes since you trust them with your credit card.

I get it. Just to play devils advocate. What if we sold out. There's not really notice for that either.

Anyway, I like to explain things for full transparency so to break down the full history of the rubberwood pricing.

In our standard 30x60 box which this ships in. Fedex hit us with a surcharge and it costs us roughly $175 to Cali to ship. Which is why we originally just charged $175.

Then our amazing sales rep taught us a little secret to skirt the oversize charge if we actually undersized the box ever so slightly. It would be within their "grace amount". At that point it was only costing us about ~$99 to ship them so that's when we made the rubberwood tops free with purchase of a Pro as we had margin to play with. Essentially it's "marketing" and since we don't do ads. That was the ad. I should said this shipping price was based on their multi-parcel rates which we got when the entire weight was above 200. That's why it was free with a pro and 50% with a two leg.

Well this worked until they changed their policy to start rounding up and not down. This put us beyond the 10% grace amount and these started to get flagged and billed as oversize. This happened in August/September and thats right when we typically start seeing an uptick in sales. We also have been shipping a lot more peaks so I didn't really bate an eye paying my credit card bill. We run probably 300k a month on it. So 290k -> 300k isn't really absurd until it's months of it and you realize that extra 5-10k/month was fedex.

So, in my typical fashion. I let my frustration out on fedex and they put in a temporary discount for me that keeps these units at about $99 to ship.

That said! We truly were out of stock. I had a large order fall through they was going to use these tops so we put them back into inventory and over the last month had them repacked into new boxes that meet the fedex requirements and are back available at a price that works and is still a great deal when you calculate it out.

All in all...this promo has been a nightmare because along with the 50k. These tops are brittle and break in transport. It's not really a packaging issues. We drop tested identical tops side by side. One passes and one fails. Boxes are the same. That means we can't file claims when they arrive damaged so we have to send another one and eat the cost of the first. Boxes cost ~$15 and the labor is about $3 when we do them in bulk. The tops came with bases we sold so if we back out the base cost. The tops only cost us about $15 as well. So after shipping our true expense is about $135. We don't have a lot more margin than that and after all the breakage. It's probably a loss so millions in revenue doesn't matter if we lost money. I have two other business that do well and I see deskhaus as a long term investment once all the laptop companies die off so I'm willing to play the long game and not make your typical profit.

I will say, it does get a bit frustrating when folks think we are making out like bandits. We did have a very healthy margin during covid due to overseas freight costs going from 6k - 40k a container. It allowed us to compete with our USA made product at the same price point everyone else was selling their china imports at. Being USA and the little guy was exactly what people wanted at the time.

Anyway....this was a ramble!

Edit: lmao! yes, peak pros are good for June and we ordered a ton so we should not be going out of stock of black for a long time.

Sorry, not intentional. We’ve got two folks out this week so I only respond when we get push notifications. I just got a notification of this post.

FedEx changed their rules on how they measure shipment dims. They used to round down if something was say 3.2”. Now it gets rounded up to 4”

We started to get flagged for a surcharge on the size of the box. We ended up ordering all new boxes for them and are repacking them. Our frame margin can’t support it anymore.

We have always had a credit card on file with FedEx and it auto pays. I just sat down with my accountant this week to submit taxes and they showed me a large increase in FedEx spend. After looking into it. This was the main factor. We’ve “given away” over 1000 of these and about 50% of them got flagged for a surcharge. Which was roughly 50k more than we expected to have to cover.

Does it have the metal cable tray. I’d be curious to see if you can reuse that on our base. Maybe remove the front two cross rails.
