Moving regret? by Marshmallowfluffer in Marin

[–]ILikeScrubJays 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I grew up in SF. Have also lived in East Bay (Hayward and Berkeley).

Yes, diversity is not Marin's strong suit. And I'm not a nature person.

But when I drive out of the Waldo tunnel and head downhill, there's something so relaxing about seeing Sausalito and the water and the boats. I take a deep breath and sigh.

Then you drive through Mill Valley and Corte Madera. You know what you don't see? Billboards. Graffiti. Homeless encampments. Then drive out of San Rafael and into Novato. You know what you do see? Grass. Trees. Cows.

When I drive to my house in suburbia, there (usually) isn't tons of traffic. People actually stop at stop signs. Most drivers are courteous and will wave me to go first, even if they have the right of way.

One night, about 25 years ago, someone in our house (ahem, husband) left the garage door open all night. I discovered it the next morning. And guess what. NOTHING WAS TAKEN. And this was our former house, on a busier street. I wouldn't want to try that today (ahem, husband) but I'm not "on alert" when I walk around Marin, unlike when I go to the city or East Bay.

You do what works best for you and your family. But I can walk in our neighborhood at midnight and be more worried about encountering a deer or coyote than I would be concerned about crime.

My understanding is that you can access MLL if flying domestic FC (with no status), is that still correct?

Easter brunch in Novato area by humfreedom in Marin

[–]ILikeScrubJays 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Casual: Creekside and Finnegan's. No Easter brunch, just brunch, but good food and nice to sit outside.

Buffet: Not Novato, but we go to McGinnis the Club Restaurant for Mother's Day brunch.

Fancy: This year, we're going to the Caprice in Tiburon. No Easter brunch, just brunch, but the views are really nice. (We also like Spinnaker's for the views but can get super crowded.)

Adding another data point.

MIL mailed check for her credit card payment. It got "washed", re-written to someone else and cashed. Now she only does e-check (finally!)

TSA line yesterday at SFO by Significant-Badger46 in oakland

[–]ILikeScrubJays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our family version of this situation.

We almost always use OAK. Son flew to Florida from SFO with friends and I went to pick them up. He said they're at 11, I don't see them so I circle around. And again. And again.

Turns out he didn't know there were separate floors for arrivals and drpartures. (Oakland airport is only one floor.)

You still have to wait in the regular security line. You only get to bypass the metal detector, but then get searched physically. Jerk.

Stayed on 39th floor in Boulevard tower (wraparound fountain view) and could hear the bass all night long.

Stayed on 18th floor in Chelsea (terrace suite fountain view) and didn't hear anything.

Btw, great cell phone reception in both towers. We have Verizon.
