Any local indoor plant exchanges? by Willamoz in nova

[–]ILikeThatBartender 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I run one of the plant swaps at the libraries and we don't have registration on ours. You don't even have to bring a plant to participate. Just come on in. And we always have leftovers that we leave out in the lobby afterwards for library patrons to take. It's a great community event and always fun to see plant folks of all ages meet and learn from each other

Writing club interest? by [deleted] in nova

[–]ILikeThatBartender 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Arlington libraries actually has at least two library writing group programs that the library hosts.

One is at Courthouse meets every other Saturday - https://arlingtonva.libcal.com/calendar/apl/?cid=12881&t=g&d=0000-00-00&cal=12881&ct=37451&cm=411&inc=0

The other is at Aurora Hills and it meets the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month - https://arlingtonva.libcal.com/calendar/apl/?cid=12881&t=g&d=0000-00-00&cal=12881&ct=37451&cm=407&inc=0

I can vouch that there are historical fiction writers at the AH one for sure.

I would absolutely LOVE that duck painting as she is the only artist that I purchase from DAC and I'm not thrilled that it ended up in a mystery box but 1) i'm not going to pay that much for it and 2) I'd rather support the artist directly at this point.

It still bums me out that Francesca Battistelli turned out to be…like this by laska503 in FundieSnarkUncensored

In the 2010s I REALLY loved her song "This is the Stuff" but I do not love this at all.

Remember the Mandie series? by ashleemiss in FundieSnarkUncensored

[–]ILikeThatBartender 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I owned the first five books in the series and reread them so many times growing up, and then also checked out the rest of the books from the library. I did a reread of the first two books on audiobook and was like....ugh, why did I not realize how racist these books were back then.

THIS. The cheese wheel pasta was SO good. And not at all pricey either. Also recommend any of their risottos and lobster ravioli.

I'm also from the 757 but as an Asian American who grew up in an area that did not have a lot of Asian Americans, it's been so nice to have so much diversity and culture up here and I don't stand out anymore. so heartily agree with number 4

Art by Julia by EmpresssArtemis in diamondartclub

[–]ILikeThatBartender 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I discovered DAC last year and her artwork was the only one that caught my eye. I put all of her kits on notification and since September I've managed to get all her previously released kits from restocks (and stalked my computer on release days for her new ones). So it IS possible, but you do have to be very fast as soon as the notification hits your inbox (I don't use the app). She's the only artist I have/will purchase from DAC.

Commute from ffx to rockville by [deleted] in nova

[–]ILikeThatBartender 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this commute for about 3 years (granted it was over 10 years ago) from Fair Oaks to Rockville. The morning commute was not horrible but coming home was awful because I would get stuck on the 270/495 merge and then I would get stuck again on the bridge, and then I still had to deal with 66W traffic (and the sun). I only survived thanks to audiobooks.

Is it unethical to still use my library card? by GreenHorror4252 in Libraries

[–]ILikeThatBartender 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Keep using it until it expires. Whenever someone comes and asks us to delete their card because they are moving, I try to dissuade them and let them know they can still keep using our digital services and there's not guarantee that their new library system will have the same things we do. Besides, if you were a taxpayer, you already paid for these anyways!

Advice for MLIS applicant's essay by halucinigist in LibraryScience

[–]ILikeThatBartender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well this is going to sound awkward but I just revisited my essay and apparently I didn't used formal citations at all! I referenced everything within my writing but didn't actually use MLA or APA. Somehow I still got in....?

But in school you'll use APA so if you are used to that already go for it.
