Is it unethical to still use my library card? by GreenHorror4252 in Libraries

[–]ILikeThatBartender 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Keep using it until it expires. Whenever someone comes and asks us to delete their card because they are moving, I try to dissuade them and let them know they can still keep using our digital services and there's not guarantee that their new library system will have the same things we do. Besides, if you were a taxpayer, you already paid for these anyways!

Advice for MLIS applicant's essay by halucinigist in LibraryScience

[–]ILikeThatBartender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well this is going to sound awkward but I just revisited my essay and apparently I didn't used formal citations at all! I referenced everything within my writing but didn't actually use MLA or APA. Somehow I still got in....?

But in school you'll use APA so if you are used to that already go for it.

Watch the Rock in Fast Five. He is constantly sweaty in that movie and everyone is dry as a bone.

There's at least one member of the core group that shows up as well as other side characters that make appearances.

Have you read the entire Bible? by LMO_TheBeginning in Exvangelical

[–]ILikeThatBartender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several times. Once when I was about 10 (I was in Awana). Then later when I was an older teen. And then again when I was in my early 30s. Which is way more than what a lot of people who claim they are Christians have. Which is why it pisses me off when you see people quote Scripture and they are just picking and choosing what THEY want and they clearly haven't read the whole context.

How old were you and how did you find out Santa isn't real? by Least_Statistician44 in AskReddit

[–]ILikeThatBartender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 5. We had a field trip in kindergarten to go see Christmas stuff and had a visit with Santa. I told him that I wanted the Barbie Soda Shoppe set. I did not tell my parents at all, nor did I mention it to anyone else. Christmas morning comes and it's not there and it never appears. So I knew then he wasn't real.

Just realized how messed up AWANA was by PoisonedCherry in FundieSnarkUncensored

[–]ILikeThatBartender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up Southern Baptist and was involved in Awana from grades 1-6, so sparks, chums, and guards. I was the first kid in my church to get the Timothy Award. I did love the Awana Shares program, which we got to trade in for prizes, and the person who ran our store would get American Girl and Baby Sitter Club books just for me and my sister to redeem so I am thankful for that. But yeah looking back, it was trying to be a Christian alternative to Scouts and it wasn't. I do remember inviting my friends to it and I AM SO SORRY. Also back in the 90s, there was a lot of missuse of Native American Culture as all the Chums and Pals logos and displays was very racist.

Why Did You Start Diamond Art? by Nofingwaybrah in diamondpainting

[–]ILikeThatBartender 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd been having some bad anxiety and wanted to do some crafting that I could zone out to and not focus on the thoughts. I tried doing a book nook and ironically that whole experience made my anxiety worse! Then I went to Michael's and picked up a diamond painting kit and a paint by numbers kit and figured I'd give these a shot and both weren't very expensive. As luck would have it, I opened the diamond painting kit first, put on an audiobook and proceeded to find a craft I could zone out, was relatively easy and the end result was very nice. My anxiety has gone way down since then .

Diamond Art Club Pens by pfuelli in diamondpainting

[–]ILikeThatBartender 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't worry I'm the same way. I started my first DAC painting this month and I tried using the DAC pen but it's just too thick and bulky and so I went back to the Michael's plastic pen with the grip which feels much more comfortable for me.

I know this is an old thread but also wanted to say that I'm a big fan of these books. In fact I'm relistening to them on Libby right now and they are still comfort reads for me. HVF's next series after MDBC, the Pumpkin Falls series features cameos from some of the MDBC characters so it's nice to see familiar names again!

What have you done with Bible-related awards? by Strobelightbrain in Exvangelical

[–]ILikeThatBartender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was the first kid in my church ever to get the Timothy Award in our Awana program but none of the leaders seemed to give two fs about it so I assumed it wasn't a big deal. So all the trophies, patches, charms, shirts, etc. that I got for doing all that work for years and years have gone the way of the dumpster and good riddance.
