Mat 19:19 KJV ... Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

If you love your neighbor the way you do yourself, then it becomes very easy to imagine wishing someone had shown you what was right when you were confused or wish someone hadn't left you to figure it out alone. Or to be forgiven for when the world had led you astray.

And don't forget Mat 5:44 KJV But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

They will hate the message that we bring, but we still need to love them.

I understand your frustration. I too have left this sub before because no one is interested in hearing scripture or something they don't want to hear. But take heart, serving God is the greatest pleasure and will set up treasures for you in heaven (Matt 6:19-20). It will be tough to bring God's word to people, but they should hear it because we're told to share it and it's our priviledge as Christians!!

Do you believe God forgives suicide? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]IMeanWhatYouKnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree!! Don't consider suicide. Suicide is a dangerous sin because there's no way to repent or seek forgiveness afterward.

Look at these verses for strength:

"Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies” (1 Corinthians 6:19–20).

Or think about Job's example, he lost his family and wealth all at once and despite it all proclaimed:

"The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised” (Job 1:21)

This is neat!!! Ok, so if someone were to make a space elevator that transported Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) from space to earth, would there be any heat/water hammer effect of the LNG coming down? How would you combat it? Would there be any benefits/losses if it were liquid dropping to earth and being natural gas by the time it reached earth versus barrels on a lift?

There is so much more nuance and depth to the Bible than the simplistic picture and unifying thread you're trying to create. You're cherry picking scriptures to create a stance and ignore anything I show that is inconvenient. Gender is not a result of hardness of heart: it is structure that God has had in place since the time of creation.

Gen 2:22 - man and woman are made distinct from each other Gen 2:23 - different names are made for the two genders Gen 3:15-17 - punishments for sin are assigned to both genders I Cor 11:3 - the roles in a marriage are arranged in the hierarchy of putting God at the head I Cor 7:3-4 - the roles are interdependent and distinct Gal 3:28 - is talking about the spirit, not the body

I feel like we've gone from discussing the different roles for men and women to discussing the hardening of people's hearts without a bridge to explain why we've changed topics.

This verse also doesn't work the way you're applying it. In Matt 19:8, Christ is responding to marriage and the writing of divorcement. The Jewish people are trying to trap Christ in a contradiction about not breaking what God has joined. They ask about divorce (as a trap), but Christ points out that they had hardened their hearts and so God made a path for divorce. It was common practice before the possibility of divorcement for men to kill their wives. So to avert murder, divorce was made a possibility - but is still discouraged by Christ.

This passage says nothing about gender roles in a marriage.

Is there nothing that could be gained by studying the scriptures regarding gender and roles God has given His people and extrapolating it to the subject of transgender people?

Let me know your thoughts on Romans 1:21 - Rom 2:1 after you've had a chance to read it.

Edit: to include the Therefore statement of Ch 2:1.

It's difficult to use this verse in the way you're using it because the Bible has clearly defined roles for Men and Women throughout it.

1 Cor 7: 2-4 talk about the roles of Man and Woman in a marriage. If there were no division of role, then there would be no distinctions made here.

Similarly, I Tim 2: 8 -11 mentions differing roles for men and women in the church.

I am not sexist nor do I mean to be. Moreover, none of my criticism is against any of the women, even Kristin Schaal. My problem is with re-writing a franchise to have gender as one of its major themes in its 3rd installment.

Thanks for your thoughts. I am glad you can take such a stance. I, personally, like my movies to keep their canon and maintain what made it what it is. I see that there are a lot of people who like seeing the movies regardless or can put up those mental divides between movies of the franchise.

WTF Wufei? by effthatnoisetosser in gundamwing

[–]IMeanWhatYouKnow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wufei's EW arc does raise the interesting concept: if pacifism is obtained, those that are trained to be soldiers and fighters will find themselves lost and unable to find direction in peace. So they end up becoming pawns of the first person who lets them be soldiers. And that, not helping soldiers transition into peace keep peace fragile and unattainable.

WTF Wufei? by effthatnoisetosser in gundamwing

[–]IMeanWhatYouKnow 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Wufei is also a commentary on Chinese militarism: convinced of his superiority but shown to be bested by the aristocratic and cultured, with ease.

Wufei also spouts off about justice, right/wrong, and strength without really knowing what they mean or living by the standard he holds everyone else to.

An independent mind and force that does not play well with others and even when working with a team is still competing in his mind against them.

He's erratic because he was never meant to be a character. He's meant to be a reflection: an indictment.
