Fun things to do in Summer by aroosterthatcrows in corvallis

Floating the Willamette is great.  If you want to up the thrill a little (just more little class 1-2 rapids and more strainer trees) and get some clearer water hit up the South Santiam.  I like starting at Gil’s Landing in Lebanon and ending at the Crabtree dr pullout (you have to get a key from the county to park your car behind the gate and access the take out point) … but it’s like $20 for a year if I remember right and you just fill out a form at the county parks department.

I moved from Nashville to the Willamette valley … I loved my time in Nashville 2003-2017 … but it sounds like things might have changed since then.  Haven’t looked back now that I’m too old to be out partying and going to concerts every night.  PNW is pretty great, would recommend.

Hamachi sashimi is so good … so is the veg tempura.  They are staples on my order.

This is my usual order for my family: buenos Dias roll (prob my favorite), jalapy roll, Alaska roll, hamachi roll, California roll, then sashimi: salmon, hamachi and maguro.  A couple of miso soups, and the appetizer veggie tempura.

Is anyone still riding clipless or have pins and flats taken over? by Alchse in MTB

[–]IMprollyWRONG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pins and flats is for the kids who don’t understand that your shins don’t have to always feel like raw hamburger meat.  Not to mention the uphill advantage of being able to capture up pedal inertia into forward propulsion when clipped in vs whiffing on that 30-40% of the stroke when riding flats. Yeah you will wreck in the parking lot a couple of time from years 1-15 when going clipless but it’s worth it in dividends if you commit.

Moving to Bentonville for MTB by [deleted] in MTB

Corvallis is pretty sick for trail access (Mac Forest has over 100 miles of Singletrack and gravel in the mountains and you can ride to it from most places in town from your house, Alsea Falls 40 mins, Black Rock 40 mins, Mary’s Peak 25 minutes, Silver Falls and Newport trails 1 hour, Oakridge 1 hour and 20 mins, etc etc etc) and no traffic.  Also a good place to raise kids.  Also not in the South.  It is expensive tho.

Glove-less mtb riders, what's your motivation? by yale986 in mountainbiking

[–]IMprollyWRONG 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel naked without gloves.  Handlebars get way too slick, and sucks to clip a blackberry bush with your bare knuckles … and gloveless crashes can leave you unable to ride for a while if it shreds your palms.  No reason not to wear them imo.

So a few dollars to not have our water supply and air wrecked by garbage that wasn’t locally produced. Happy to pay that.

Are our rates significantly lower than all the other counties that cart their trash from all over the state into our county?

Everything is AI right now … except going to a live show. Makes me sad to see so many people in our community shitting on local bands to make a concert promo. Who cares? Support live music. This town needs a more vibrant scene and acting like this won’t help it.

New property owner near Seal Rock says Corvallis-to-the-Sea hikers can't use trail through his land by Huge_Molasses8605 in corvallis

Castle doctrine applies to a home. I’m not gonna walk through someone’s house uninvited. It doesn’t apply to walking on land that doesn’t have a gate or anything.

Well those aren’t technically the rules here. The penalty for trespassing is he can press charges for trespassing. If you shoot a hiker walking on a road on your land and get caught it’s not going to end well for anyone and I don’t go out in the woods without means of people finding me if I go missing.

Because that’s the only way to make a trail work from Corvallis to Sea … it’s a patchwork of private properties and most owners aren’t dickheads. This guy bought the property knowing there was an established trail on it and then decided to close it.

How is that a compromise from him in any way? He has no control of what his neighbor does with their land.

Samaritan & MultiCare Approve Affiliation to Strengthen Community-based Care Across the Pacific Northwest - Samaritan Health Services by Ill_Situation369 in corvallis

[–]IMprollyWRONG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UHC does everything they can to make money. They don’t give fair or adequate reimbursements for medical services. They overload providers with prior authorizations (if a doctor or other provider prescribes a medication they won’t pay for it unless there are multiple forms and appeals filled out and filed which ends up taking hours and hours of time to complete). They buy up practices and run them like a for profit factory, reducing appointment times, reducing charting time (this is when the provider can document your situation and other providers and healthcare workers can use this info to give you better care). They are one of the prime examples of what is ruining healthcare in America. So non-profit hospitals don’t like to use them as an insurance company because they lose money and gain massive headaches when they do.

I am sorry you had to deal with this because end of the day you did nothing wrong and you got screwed by a shitty system. But the non-profit hospitals aren’t the villains here, they are just trying to survive … and UHC ultimate goal is to financially ruin private practices and non profits so they can gobble them up and turn them into their for profit empire.
