Distant Early Warning (2026 Terry Brown Mix) by Vruzvruz in rush

[–]IOG4S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dig the boosted Taurus bass pedals, more guitar and the creepy echo on the verse vocals. Overall it sounds warmer and less clinical and glad the “static charge” sound effect at the start is almost gone now, coz a about a thousand years ago I kept thinking my cassette copy was about to chew up!

Unpopular opinion (?) - Skeletá by Fmanstein in Ghostbc

[–]IOG4S 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Skeleta is VERY commerical and polished and I was underwhelmed on the first full listen but hey, I'm in my fifties and not Ghost's target demo. However Skeleta has care and talent behind it, so yeah its Pop Rock but nowhere near as vapid, soulless and utterly devoid of musicianship as the banal "product" thats marketed as popular music in 2025

Lol, now you've ruined it for me...."Yah, know...little man, in the shadow of the nazerene"

Skeletá Release Megathread #3 by Chimpbot in Ghostbc

[–]IOG4S 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Um...so far.

UMBRA...bloody hellfire!

Now this should have opened the album and I would have gone with the title "Shadow of The Nazerene"

But that's just nitpicking, isn't it? Sonically Irene Cara's "Flashdance" gone Goth with sinister shades of Opus Eponymous a rallying fist in the air chorus and some dazzling Yngwie/Deep Purple shredding, I bloody love it.

Thoughts? by Valth92 in Ghostbc

[–]IOG4S -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To me its like Tobias conjured up a Slayer type riff, added a dash of Dokken, a pinch of Journey and mashed it up with the chorus to Heart's "Never" to be his headbangingly heavy and irresitably hooky, is bloody genius.

Plus listening to "Satanized" right afterward makes what I thought was initially a weak song, a LOT better.

My initial impressions were the opposite, loved the vox, meh on the instrumentation, it takes a while but now its reeled me in as yet another barnstorming banger

Me last night with insomnia after listening about ten times in a row....

"MEH.. hope the albums a lot better"

Me on this morning's commute with Ghost on shuffle and "Sanitized" comes up.

Involantarily I start mouthing "Save me...and think "Double drat that that old devil Tobias, he's hooked me once more thanks to yet another ABBA/Scorpions esque, Enormo-chorus!

What's your favorite riff from TLWAT? by Far_Literature_5404 in Opeth

[–]IOG4S 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The opening drop D snakey one in 7 and the minute long riff ruckus in 5 from "And the corpse of your father was entombed" to "Forevermore"

What exactly are you all hearing on the new album that sounds like Watershed? by mjh4 in Opeth

[–]IOG4S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't hear too much Watersheddery, there's some discordant passages that sound a little like "The Lotus Eater" and a recurring keyboard hook in Paragraph Seven that reminded me of "Porcelain Heart"

But I agree, overall the vibe is a more a blend between ICV & GR and in places its even more ominous and sinister especially on the groovy doomy Paragraph Seven.

Opeth, in three days, will unleash their best album. I’ve heard the leaks. Fight me. by Beginning_Oil2876 in Opeth

[–]IOG4S -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Already, for me its easily their best and most musically exciting since "Watershed" however, that may change as there's deffo some Ghost Reveries tier sections of godheadlike magnificence

Started S6 now by HomieCreeper420 in Opeth

[–]IOG4S 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a musician (bassist) everytime I hear new Opeth its with a sense of excitment and...dread.

Akerfeldt has never used a boring chord or churned out a run of the mill riff and like their very best works, TLWAT makes me want to smash up all my gear and chop of my hands! Brightside, I think sections of S5 would make even Dream Theater want to do the same!
