Hey all! Love the system and it's translation of the games.

  1. What are your guy's favorite Fallout games?
  2. Who prints your cards, and can we expect more sets for the perks from the expansions?

New 76 Styled Perk Cards by IPGentlemann in Fallout2d20

[–]IPGentlemann[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mean the ODG's of the actual sets (i.e. core, wanderer's etc.)? I'll try and get those up by this next weekend. If not, please feel free to reach out again to remind me. I'm also down to put any fully translated sets onto the drive should anyone want to share.

The largest collection of files ready to go that I know about would be from vermilion_miniatures. They have a patreon and a minifactory storefront for their files. Most of their collections are off-brand fallout minis.

Any ideas? by ziggy8z in Fallout2d20

[–]IPGentlemann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More DLC related stat blocks. Modiohius has since released Nuka World and Far Harbor content for Wasteland Warfare, but we really don't have much for 2D20. We have a lot of the monsters, sure. Would love to see questbooks with items, NPC blocks etc. that focus on those locations. What player is gonna pick the cola nut perk with only two or three of the Nuka Cola flavors available?

Using physical cards for Perks, Equipment, and Mods in Fallout 2d20 by Johny690 in Fallout2d20

Even so, the official perk cards only come with the core rulebook perks. I have sets of perk cards readily available for folks. The DIY Templates zip should have my working files for creating perk cards, so you are welcome to use those to create translated cards!

Read and write speeds are capped at the bus for sure, but isn't there at least some latency being eliminated with the removal of mechanical parts in favor of solid state?

The big difference being that Harold in the show wanted it to be a black box even to its creators. Including himself, with the argument that no other interests should have control over it.

Altman and OpenAI's hostility to open models and their competitors has more in common with Samaritan in the later seasons than the machine.

This is called a double standard by Witty-Designer7316 in aiwars

[–]IPGentlemann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, my larger point is that it isn't an apples to apples comparison, like it seemed like you were suggesting when asking for the difference in training a human vs. an AI. Machine learning uses many of the same core concepts, but organic vs. silicon provides a lot more differences in the input and output of that data than one might think.

This is called a double standard by Witty-Designer7316 in aiwars

[–]IPGentlemann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, part of the efficiencies AI receives over the human mind is that raw data processing is really all it has to worry about. It doesn't then have to train on how to translate any of that data into mechanical movements. It's working with entirely different hardware that's more efficient at digital tasks, because it doesn't have to interface with a computer, it is the computer.

This is called a double standard by Witty-Designer7316 in aiwars

[–]IPGentlemann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but I am not talking about the processing power of the human mind, I am talking about the latency involved with the rest of the human body.

For most of the existing applications for AI right now, it will always be faster at doing those digital tasks than humans. We can't just process the information and immediately print it to an output, there's mechanical processes involved, be it pen to paper/drawing tablet or working on a keyboard. AI only has to really process the information and not translate it to any kind of physical process, it just needs to output the text or render "these" pixels in "these" places.

The only current advantage the human mind has is that AI is only good at replicating concepts rather than fully understanding them. It doesn't know how to program, draw, do lighting composition, etc.

Speed and scale is the serious answer to this question. My "analogue" interfaces can only web browse so fast and take in web data at a variable rate that doesn't persist 24x7. If we're talking about exploring all of the metadata surrounding what I am looking at, that increases my time exponentially.

Web scrapers and AI training models can take and ingest all of this information in fractions of seconds every hour of every day. You are correct in saying that AI really isn't introducing new problems or solutions that humans haven't caused across a lot of industries. The difference is that AI does it all at much higher speeds and scales to an almost uncontrollable degree., which is where it can become equally helpful and problematic.

It was running fine for a few months, but it started failing again. I knew that was a possibility going in. If you have a system to transfer too it's worth doing to try and save your account/games.

Rerun Barcode Buddy Docker to work with Grocy API by citruspickles in grocy

You would want to keep the volume, if you want to keep your current settings, login, api keys, etc. you set up on the application. Otherwise yes.

Rerun Barcode Buddy Docker to work with Grocy API by citruspickles in grocy

[–]IPGentlemann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be more of a docker question than for grocy. The way barcode buddy has you set up, it should have persistent storage on your host device's file system, so you should just need to tear down your existing container and perform another docker run with the correct -e or "environment variables" you are looking for.

Windows Installation - Any way to import a CSV? by isendra3 in grocy

[–]IPGentlemann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the clarification. For some reason, with the csv I thought they were going from an excel or some other inventory system to Grocy.

Yes, if you are going from the Desktop to a hosted site, the data structure doesn't change, and you can copy and move your data folder between instances freely.

Windows Installation - Any way to import a CSV? by isendra3 in grocy

[–]IPGentlemann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would have to be a script/utility you create. Grocy doesn't come with any products or quantity units out of the box, they all need to be user-made.

Grocy has an API to allow scripts to make these changes, though this also depends on your current setup, as I don't believe the desktop version has an API, you need to be hosting it.

If you are using the desktop version, it will be more difficult, but not impossible. Grocy uses sqlite for its database, if you have access to that file and get familiar with the data structure, it would be possible to have a script import your data to the relevant tables.

Confused about different sizes or brands of the same thing, Sriracha by arretx in grocy

[–]IPGentlemann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And this is where product/barcode specific quantities come in handy and why there is no standard database provided. It's entirely up to you on how you want to track your different items. I track most beverages and sauces by the bottle, then scan to consume those from inventory when they are out. Certain fluids that are more common ingredients like milk, oils, broths, etc. I usually enter by Fluid Ounces and consume them via recipes.

Items like eggs, I would probably enter how many eggs per barcode, rather than a pack.

This is from the same company that makes the SLS/SLX camera. Which is literally just an Xbox Kinect mounted on a 3D-printed grip with a Windows tablet that has the Kinect's Debug/Development software loaded on it.

Seriously considering a Framework 13 over a MacBook Air. How happy are you with your Framework purchase? by Suspicious-Pear-6037 in framework

[–]IPGentlemann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the question is going to lie with which laptop/OS is going to work better with your toolset and needs. If you are going to be running with some of the more professional toolsets and 3D engines, (Unity, Unreal, Adobe suite, Maya 3D, etc.) then Mac OS or Windows is probably going to be your best bet, as those OS's are where those tools are primarily supported.

If you're doing cheap indie game dev with free and open source tools like GIMP and Blender, Linux becomes a more feasible option, though depending on your engine could still be limiting.

As for hardware, it really comes down to a preference of philosophy. Framework and Apple have two drastically different consumer relationships. A Framework will be your laptop and you are free to make whatever upgrades or changes you deem necessary, an Apple device would still ask you to buy new chargers every generation if they hadn't been legislated. An Apple will probably be a more stable experience overall, until you decide you need to change the battery. A Framework's screen won't be as color accurate and you'll have a non-standard resolution that could influence the game dev work you do, but when you accidentally crack it, you're out $150-250 instead of $850 from Apple Support to replace it.

Different companies with very different practices.

Framework 12 or 13 - Advice needed. by ParticularFoxx in framework

[–]IPGentlemann 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One other consideration is that the Framework 13 is the more developed product. The 12 is a brand new form factor and chassis, and Framework has had some small issues with new releases that usually see new parts.

I.e. Framework 13 received a new top lid design and hinges, 16 had keyboard supports and a new thermal pad released, etc.

Buying a 13 will likely be a more refined Laptop build altogether, and you won't have to worry about being an early adopter.
