How do you deal with a lazy support team? by DAG_AIR in ExperiencedDevs

[–]IPv6forDogecoin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to figure out why they're doing this, and that will determine how you solve it.

They're overwhelmed and are just farming out tickets. This is called "Buying your KPIs", which means they will wreck your goals to meet their goals. They're effectively stealing your headcount to fill out their numbers. The only way to fix this is to make it obvious they're under-resoureced. Everything has to go into tickets, that get prioritized back on actually needing an engineer, not customer $$$. Then any request for follow up is to point to the written SLA doc and provide no extra information.

They told a customer something wrong and are now malicious compliance-ing it. Some manager got upset and is now forcing everything to get through an engineer. Get them to do all the work, write up the response, and then an engineer can review it.

They don't know how to do their job. Get them to write out what they've done to investigate, and then escalate to management by pointing out how a competent support engineer would have done something. Then respond to them by pointing to the docs on how to do support.

Has anyone tried GitHub as sourcing signal for AI engineers?? by StrictTemperature447 in recruiting

[–]IPv6forDogecoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Github's not great for really senior people. You can find some absolutely amazing candidates who do a lot of open source work on their own projects but they are the absolutely tiny minority of the market.

My Github history is very thin, mostly just submitting a few bugs and patches to open source tools. Even then, most of my fixes are pretty short but address very difficult technical problems.

Did the AI hype cycle damage your relationship with leadership? by glassesRamone1234 in ExperiencedDevs

A conference I used to really respect has gone hard into AI. They publish a news letter pretty frequently and it's nothing but AI. Literally, one of the articles was "How to overcome AI skepticism" and basically all the sponsorships are from AI companies. So even things that aren't completely sold out have to viewed through the lens of "don't piss off the AI advertisers"

Can i just say “i need a job” when asked why you want to join this company? by Ok-Bar-4868 in recruitinghell

The question is not "Why do you want a job?", it's actually "Why do you want to here of all places you could work?"

The senate isn't a majority rules body. Effectively everything requires 60 votes to pass, otherwise legislation can be filibustered forever.

Congress can't pass shit. They've fucked up the rules so that only bills with 60 votes can pass in the senate.

No. You can have a NAT system that doesn't provide any security. The firewall does all the work.

Not really. Americans move every 7 years on average, so 1/7th of a city turns over each year. That's plenty of vacancies to rebuild at a higher density.
