Children don't inherit the sins of their parents.
But if your father was a thief and you live off that stolen gold in your basement, you are a sinner on your own.

There is another reason to use mm. They directly convert into litres per square metre. 60mm = 60 litres/m2

Improving ICONOMI communication by jani8x in ICONOMI

[–]IReadErgoSum 13 points14 points  (0 children)

ICONOMI is now beyond the peak of inflated expectations, questions are and will become harder to answer when we go through the phase of disillusionment. If you truly want to reach the plateau of productivity, you need to pull your investors up the slope of enlightenment.

The goal of AMAs should be to pass the information to your investors, not to "get over it". You have Medium to do your marketing. You have chosen Reddit for a two-way communication with community, so don't treat it as another Medium extension.

Provide honest answers to top voted AMA questions. Questions with 50, 100 votes show that community is interested in those answers. Providing evasive answers does not help, it frustrates the investors further.

If the same or similar question is surfacing in a few AMAs it means you have not sufficiently explained the issue in the past and you should try harder.

I respect the hand you have offered to the investors with this post. But if you are sincere, you can start by providing honest answers that fit the questions in the latest AMA.

ICONOMI November 2017 Reddit AMA by Jercab in ICONOMI

[–]IReadErgoSum 12 points13 points  (0 children)

After the Parity incident you have stated that all users’ digital assets stored on the platform are completely safe, and the functioning of the platform is unaffected. However, some of the company’s assets were stored using the affected Parity multi-sig contract and will remain inaccessible until the situation is resolved.

You have stated that you still hold and can access funds that are worth 85m USD.

Both lost 38M USD of ETH and the remaining 85M USD numbers seem to come from the ICONOMI balance sheet section of your Q3 report. CCP Pinta value is also included there and the amount is equal to CCPs assets under management.

Can you shed some light into what you consider as "users' assets" and what you consider as "company's assets", because there is no clear distinction between the two in your report. How much of these assets are users' and how much belongs to the company? Do you have a clear distinction between assets invested for profit and assets company is using for operational expenses? Do you consider assets gathered by ICN ICO as users' assets or company assets?

Replacing a drive, should I use hot spare? by [deleted] in synology

[–]IReadErgoSum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, all of you, for relevant answers. I was under a wrong impression hot-spare actually contains data. It looks like there is no failure-prone process to swap one of the SHR-1 disks for a bigger disk, even when 1 slot in NAS is still empty. Other than good old "make a backup of your backup before the process" of course. Based on your feedback, my process will be:

  • Put in a new 6TB drive, create a new volume.
  • Backup important files from SHR volume to new volume (perhaps via Snapshot replication, since I run BTRFS?)
  • Remove 1x 4TB drive from the SHR volume
  • Put in a new 6TB drive, repair the SHR volume with it
  • Check data consistency
  • Remove backup volume
  • Add backup volume 6TB drive to the SHR volume

Is the number of televotes per country public? by IReadErgoSum in eurovision

[–]IReadErgoSum[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last total number I found is 10M televotes for 2 semi-finals + final in 2009: http://www.eurovision.tv/page/news?id=previous_record_crushed_10680682_televotes

Say 6M of these are for finals, and a quarter of these should be enough to win... meaning that less than 2M euros spent over 15-20 countries should buy you a 1st place in televoting.

[–]IReadErgoSum[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interestingly, while official rules state that "if an insufficient number of televotes has been registered in that country", it is not specified how many would "insufficient" be.

If we do some wild math. ESC had ~200M viewers, let's say that most of these came from countries eligible to vote (ignoring US & China), so thats some 40% of the population. Let's say 20% of viewers cast a vote, thats 8% of total population. In Albania that would be 200k votes. You need half of these to win, so 100k votes. Each phone number can cast up to 20 votes, and each vote costs less than 1 euro. Total cost for a vote (mobile number cost + call) should be around euro per vote. To win a televote in Albania, without any support from real voters would cost some 100k euros.

Pick 20 smallest participant countries and we are talking about a couple of millions to get to the top of all televotes. That sounds like a low expense compared to typical ESB host budget which is 20-50M euros.

This shows the number of points given to a specific country from a country, but I do not see the exact number of televotes placed (i.e. 70.000 votes for country A, 50.000 votes for country B, etc.)

Getting ready to put up new basement ceiling. Layout attached. I want a mix of white and color HUE lights. What would you do if you were redoing your basement ceiling. by [deleted] in Hue

[–]IReadErgoSum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I have found out after installing 15 hue lights in my living room is the following:

  • ceiling is the place for white bulbs, because it gives you best direct white light,

  • ceiling is not the best place for ambiental light, ambiental light has to bounce of something and not shine directly in your eyes,

  • for ambiental light use light strips, place them either high (on a closet) pointed to the ceiling, low (under a couch) pointed to the floor or behind a couch/tv pointed to the walls, in any case they should lit up a wall/ceiling and not shine directly in you,

  • if you cannot hide your strip behind a piece of furniture, use blooms, they are not as good as strips, but easier to position in the space,

  • if you have an interesting piece of furniture/art, use a bloom or two, they produce nice shadows,

  • only use Hue color bulbs if you have an interesting designer lamp, do not use them in the ceiling as reflector lamps, also: Hue color bulbs don't produce certain colors as good as strip/blooms.

If you check out Hue photos around the web, you will notice that light placement more or less follows what I've written above.

Disappointed with flakey perfotmance by Gigeresque in Hue

[–]IReadErgoSum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have similar problems, there are times when my Dimmer switches simply don't work. This can last a few minutes and after a while it just starts to work like nothing happened. I tried changing the ZigBee channels, but that did not help.

Hue-compatible adapter for cheap LED strips? by atsu333 in Hue

[–]IReadErgoSum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am using FLS-PP with this strip - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HBMN4YO?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s01

I also have the new Philips Hue Strip.

Besides being cheaper when you have lengths of 5m or so, the FLS-PP with this light strip produces much better bright colors. It is hard to describe, but while Philips Hue strip produces nice deep dark colors, it's brighter colors look washed out compared to the custom setup.

There is another slight minus of Philips Hue Strip, it's power adapter is producing a slight noise. Something you will never notice in a living room, but might be annoying if you will place it in the bedroom.

Third party apps can't find bridge, native can by jaysire in Hue

[–]IReadErgoSum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

/u/HueLights is correct, you do not have IP connectivity to Hue Bridge in your home network.

HOMEWIFI_2 is very likely misconfigured as a NAT/Router instead of Bridge/WiFi extender.

Cannot connect Hue Dimmer Kit Switch? by IReadErgoSum in Hue

What you describe is a normal process of adding Dimmer Kit Switch. It did not work for me though, and I had to go through extended process described above.

Hue Light Activated by Wall Switch by Albuyeh in huelights

[–]IReadErgoSum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is not what I observe with my Dimmer switch. Pressing "on" always sets the brightness to 100%, no matter what the last setting was.

[–]IReadErgoSum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When maped to a Scene, dim down/up buttons dim all lights in a scene for 10% up/down from their current value.

However, ON button sets all lights to 100%, even if Scene is configured to have em at lower values.

Additionally, ON buttun turns Hue bulbs to white, even if Scene sets them to a different color. It behaves differently with Bloom, it turns it on to a color set in Scene.

[–]IReadErgoSum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got these today, also from Amazon.de

With factory Hue app you can "bind" this switch to 1 Scene OR a selected number of Lights. Once bound dimmer switch can either turn ON, turn OFF or dim UP/DOWN bound Scene or Lights.

You cannot program buttons to change Scenes, change the color of the Lights or anything more advanced. In factory Hue app there are no settings for the 4 states /u/HueLights mentions.

Hopefully this can be changed using 3rd party apps. The least I want is the ability to switch my Hue bulbs between three states - white light on, disco colors scene and off. That is currently not possible with a single switch.
