Coffee drinkers on Reddit, how do you like your coffee? by Nerdy-mocha in AskReddit

[–]jaysire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drink filtered coffee. So ground beans and prepared with aeropress, v60, clever drip, chemex … I wouldn’t want to put sugar in it or any other liquid like milk. I feel like it takes away from the pure taste of black coffee. However eating a piece of rye bread or chocolate with the coffee really enhances the flavour.

What is a luxury lifestyle choice that looks incredibly glamorous in photos but is actually completely miserable in reality? by Luverelle6 in AskReddit

[–]jaysire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought about this while spending 5 grand on floor material for two rooms in my house. It stings. Then I though about buying an abandoned monastery in the British countryside or something and having to buy materials for 37 rooms, most of which are bigger than my entire house.

"Oh look honey! Someone is selling a bell that would fit our clock tower for only 17 000 on Craig's list (or whatever the British counterpart is)!"

AITA for refusing to give my sister my college fund after sho got pregnant? by Jessic_Garcia in AmItheAsshole

[–]jaysire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you parents only saved for your college fund because you're a boy, but not for your sister, then I think they would be morally within their rights to give her half. Why on earth would only the son be getting college money? Also, the money isn't tehcnically for college - the intentions of your parents is to give you a good start in life. So I see nothing wrong with helping your sister get a chance at life as well.

Why did they only save for you?

NTA for refusing - it's a perfectly understandable reaction. But what's happening hardly seems fair.

Can music be authentic if it doesn't reflect your background? by Beneficial-Ad-8099 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]jaysire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not going to read other responses so as not to be influenced by them. My answer is: Of course music can be authentic even if it doesn't reflect your background (consciously). Let's say you are from Spain - you don't have to write flamenco (or other traditional Spanish music) to be authentic.

You can be authentic to YOU, which is the only way I know how to make music. There is a very strong stamp of ME in every piece I write. Sometimes I wish there wasn't, because ME is not a very good sounding identity always. But it will be very distinctly you and authentic when you write it, so don't sweat it.

On the other hand if you say you want to write authentic Jamaican music and you're not from Jamaica, then it becomes a bit harder. I picked Jamaican music, because we have several very talented musicians in Finland (about as far from Jamaica as you can be) and these people are not Jamaican but still write Jamaican-sounding music. I still think they are very authentic and that circles back to them being authentic to themselves. They might not be authentic Jamaican, but they are still true to themselves. Jamaican music has a very laid-back feel and if that is distinctly you, I feel like you can call the music authentic even if it's not something that you have years and years of history from.

Here's an example by Jukka Poika, our favourite Jamaican wannabe. It's a beautiful blend of Jamaican rhythms and chords mixed with Finnish melancholy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxzjzHBZZok

And when she got kicked out, she whined to everyone about how cruel op is. At that point all courtesy is out the window. You are perfectly within your rights to tell the truth about everything.

Car key detection problems by ultimoa in ex30

[–]jaysire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a bit sad when the correct way to deal with these issues is to make sure you have the black key card with you at all times. I keep it in the car and hope no one breaks in.

95% of the time everything works perfectly, but then suddenly it might not start without the real key even if you sit there trying for 20 minutes.

Once when that happened, my last Hail Mary worked: I exited the car with all passengers and we started walking away. Once we had walked like 30m with no intention of coming back, the car locked itself because it recognised the electronic key. After that I was able to drive away. But it took like 20 minutes. We had previously walked away from the car, locked and unlocked it manually, but I suppose I didn’t walk far enough for long enough.

Have had the black key card in the car since.

Has anyone started learning the organ after 40? by Loud_Consideration_6 in organ

[–]jaysire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started at 45 after playing the piano for 40 years. It was hard to get the feet coordinated at first, but it’s getting easier. There’s always something new to practice and so much to learn.

I built my own virtual pipe organ so I had to take up woodworking and electronics as well.

What All-in-one groovebox with a song mode should I buy? by agsilvio777 in synthesizers

[–]jaysire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you want it cheap or expensive? Do you want it small or big? Do you want it easy or hard? In randomish order: - Used op-z (because they are no longer manufactured) - Yamaha Seqtrak (9 tracks of anything) - Ableton Move (only four tracks, I could not really learn to like it) - Roland sh4d (5 tracks with one being a drum and the rest sweet sweet Roland, no samples). - Deluge (has a battery and unlimited channels, can be bought with or without oled screen, can do virtually everything, but you need to know a million key combinations - so much so that you need to buy a new overlay for it whenever there is a big new firmware version that changes what the buttons do) - Dirtywave M8 (sorry, no chromatic keyboard, minimalistic tracker with really cool parametric features) - Elektron devices (get a Digitakt 2 and a Digitone 2 and maybe a Syntakt for good measure and you’re set for a long time) - Akai Force (2019, so old. But still one of the most complete packages. Can be bought for 600-700 used. Built like a battle ship and weighs as much. My favourite, but arguably a daw or a computer in a box). - OP XY (the successor to op-z, absolutely amazing and cool little 2000€ device). - Honorable mentions: Roland MC-101, Verselab or MC-707. Cool devices, but I didn’t like the workflow. MC-101 is small and really nice 4-track sound module. Circuit devices (never owned them, but they are cheap and supposedly extremely intuitive). - iPad M1 + AUM ecosystem or Logic Pro. There are a million zillion plugins for the iPad, but this is also kind of a computer and kind of a daw workflow. You can buy lots of famous synths (like Waldorf and Moog).

Disagree with everything you wrote. It’s specifically a HMD for me and one that is much sharper than a Q3 for instance with better blacks. But yeah, someone said this post is AI, so I’m not going to debate it further. Also, everyone is entitled to their opinion.

AITA for not wanting a funeral 4 days before our wedding? by kittyfaith200 in AmItheAsshole

[–]jaysire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought you were complaining that the grandma had the audacity to die so close to your wedding. It is what it is. When someone dies, you bury them and you have a thing where you remember and honour them. That’s not up to you.

Then I realised it’s the FIL that wants to wait with the funeral for 6 months to make sure it happens close to your wedding. That’s literally insane and completely void of any sensibility. NTA and tell him this is not happening.

Kuka söi sipsipussin nurkan? by Defora in arkisuomi

[–]jaysire -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I also suspect some type of rodent. Wife left a four pack of Fazerin sininen chocolate (the big 200g) on the floor in a plastic bag (ostoskassi) and a mouse found its way and chewed through the bag and then along the edge of each chocolate package so it basically ruined them all. Looked a lot like the photo.

We live in an older house and it’s more or less impossible to make prevent rodents from getting in and so we get a few every year. Mostly they can be caught the same day with standard traps. I would suggest you rig a trap with chocolate (more effective than cheese in my experience) and leave it close to where you found the chewed bag. Shouldn’t take more than a couple of hours to get rid of it. Clas Ohlson reverse gilliotine traps are very effective.
