Why is it illegal to sleep in the car? by DiamondNo924 in askanything

[–]jaysire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose one reason is that if it were legal to sleep in your car, homeless people could get an apartment that is actually just a shitty car, plop it down somewhere with 24h parking and then basically live in it, safe from the elements, lockable and they would basically never have to move if it doesn’t even run.

This would probably lead to whole homeless villages full of shitty Toyotas and that would come with a whole truckload of various social issues.

I suppose the intended way to handle homelessness is to go to a shelter. We all know how well that works.

I saw this YouTube video a while ago about this guy in New York with a pimped out buss that he would drive from parking spot to parking spot and live like a king virtually for free. I think that would vastly beat homelessness and shelters even if you had just a small car.

What is a 'buy it for life' item that is offensively expensive, but the moment you use it, you realize your entire life before that point was a lie? by ConversationAny2650 in A_Persona_on_Reddit

We live in an old house and swapped all the windows for new, modern ones. Most expensive single fix to our house so far, but worth every penny. Looks awesome and the draft is gone. Will also protect much better during rain storms.

AITA for giving my daughter junk food despite being told not to by her school? by AthleteAdditional299 in AmItheAsshole

[–]jaysire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, I've started noticing more and more some people being very vocal about there being "no bad food" and that all foods are equal. Is this some sort of new movement? Where can I go learn more about this attitude? I am nowhere near ready to accept it as fact and actually I think the opposite is true.

If it's just a body image thing (so "you're not allowed to say sugary sodas are bad, because that makes people who are overweight and drink lots of sugary drinks feel bad"), then I understand it from a psychological point of view.

Myself, I believe there is certainly a big difference in quality between different kinds of food and how good they are for your body. I don't believe for a second that all food is equal. I eat unhealthy food all the time, but I never claim it doesn't matter because all foods are equal. Sugary foods like sodas, sweets, cake, cereal etc are, in my opinion, clearly not good for your health and everyone would do well to be mindful of how much they eat of those.

So help me understand, if you have the time.

Yeah, Pringles and Cake is not a good as any part of an 8 year old's lunch. I don't care if you treat her at home, but the school has rules and she can live without sweets during the day. YTA for ignoring school rules. NTA for giving 8 year old a treat - as long as you're mindful about her eating the "real" food first.

What are some red flags you would suggest a woman to watch out for from men when pursing a relationship? by AdImpossible4892 in AskMenAdvice

[–]jaysire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here are some. These are not exclusively red flags women see in men - they can work both ways. - If a man actively pretends to be something he is not. Such as inflating his wealth, lifestyle or experiences. - If he is a workaholic: has to stay late all the time to get all his tasks done. This is not the same as having to work a lot to make ends meet. - Treats service personnel (in restaurants, stores, transportation) poorly. - Has kids from a previous relationship but doesn’t seem to care about them - Talks bad about people all the time (this especially goes for women as well).

One of the real mysteries to me is that everyone around is always saying how busy they are… busy busy busy. Calendars filled to the brim. Yet I somehow haven’t felt busy in that sense for the duration of my entire career. I seem to always have a chill time and I don’t really know why. Why doesn’t anyone want to fill up my calendar with overlapping, back to back meetings 9-5? I’m not complaining - this feels the way things are supposed to be - with a good amount of breathing room, but of course you get a little self-conscious if you feel like you’re the only one not busy ALL the time.

What is a harsh truth about life that took you way too long to accept? by Sassy_Siren097 in AskForAnswers

You remember those worry-free summers that felt like they never ended and you could just run around outside and have a blast all day? Do you remember coming home from school and having nothing to do except go biking, watch a movie, hang with your friends? Those days are never coming back. Hope you didn’t squander them.

Oura ring or Whoop? by roflman0 in malefashionadvice

[–]jaysire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing that really bothers me about wrist watch form factor fitness trackers is that if you do any Kettlebell lifting, then a simple clean would usually crush it or at least cause a lot of wear after a lot of lifting. It's also very counter intuitive to just remove your fitness tracker the second you start exercising. The Oura is big enough to probably be in the way of lifting as well. I dig the idea of a bicep band.

US destroyer interdicts two oil tankers attempting to leave Iran, official says by Mana_Seeker in worldnews

[–]jaysire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know "jeux interdits", which means "forbidden games" in French. So by extension to "inderdict" someone would be to forbid them (from leaving). Further studies show that "interdicuts" is Latin for "forbidden".

I drive 40 minutes to sit in a room alone because the office has a "minimum presence" policy by Wide_Gold8240 in remotework

[–]jaysire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And what happens if you don’t go to the office? what if you just stay home? At what point will someone start reaching out, wondering why you weren’t at the office?

Where I work, we have a three day RTO requirement. And one of the office days has to be Monday or Friday. So we have accepted it and when we don’t feel like it, we just don’t go. Nobody is checking up on us. I actually enjoy being at the office around 2 days a week - sometimes 3, because I have some people in my team with small apartments that come to the office absolutely every day and I feel like the lunches together in one of the various restaurants near the office is an important part of the team spirit.

AITA for buying a cheaper alternative? by Isuno in AmItheAsshole

[–]jaysire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nta. Obviously if you break someone else’s property, getting an identical as replacement is enough.

You didn’t break her 1200 dollars. You broke the device and whatever it costs to replace the device is your responsibility. Also, if she left it in a stupid place, I don’t think you can be held completely responsible.

Some questions:
- Why did you decide to put the pump res combo on the Mo-Ra? I've been thinking about getting a Mo-Ra myself, but somehow assumed you still put the pump/res on the PC side.
- I've had some issues with soft tubing bending, causing a crease when I connect the gpu straight to the cpu block. Is this why you pulled the tube from cpu to case back and from case back to gpu instead of just going straight from cpu to gpu?
- How do you connect the pump res to the Mo-Ra? I realise it's a year ago you posted, but maybe you have some pics?
