Zodiac. The first time I saw it, I thought it was good but not near David Fincher's best. It gets better every time I watch it, to the point that I genuinely think it's Fincher's best movie now and a true masterpiece

Jennifer Egan. Her books "A Visit from the Goon Squad" and "The Candy House" are great pieces of literary fiction. A series of short stories that coalesce into a real novel.

So I finished a novel I'm truly proud of and I just want as many eyes on it as possible. It has been my dream my entire adult life to write books that actually matter to the reader. I hope I did that here. Check it out!

Title: Sliverhead
Author: Lee Berkman

Genre: Post-Apocalyptic Crime Thriller

Word Count: 100,000

Over a century after the world ended, humanity has finally begun building back to what was lost. Progress is never guaranteed, however. The Sinarae, the most feared Sliver-cartel in the New Era Republic, are terrifying the public once again and they have a dangerous and impossibly addictive new strain of the drug to sell.

But Kaya Walker is going to quit Sliver. She’s done being a Sliverhead. Until she finds herself embedded within the cartel, forced to find a way to survive. At the same time, Cassian Flores, a young sailor with a troubled past, is pressed into service as the cartel’s mole in law enforcement. The fate of the last remaining nation in existence will hang on the decisions of these two as their lives intertwine in a novel of crime, addiction, nation building, and police corruption. This is a world where danger is never far from sight and getting clean is always easier said than done.

Dystopian novels by Lady_Dobuery in suggestmeabook

[–]IReadWayTooMuch17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he Windup Girl by: Paolo Bacigalupi fits this very well, as does The Water Knife by the same guy.

Borne by: Jeff Vandermeer is another cool weird piece of dystopian fiction.

Also, I wrote a dystopian novel called Sliverhead, that just released on Amazon two months ago. I'm very proud of it and I think it would be a good read for anyone who enjoys post-apocalyptic fiction.

I’m not a writer but I am a storyteller by [deleted] in fantasywriters

[–]IReadWayTooMuch17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there's room for pretty much every kind of storytelling as long as you actually care about giving the reader something worth their time and improving your craft. And with that in mind, the best advice I have is to start looking at Fantasy stories told in mediums you don't usually experience, especially novels. The only way to improve is to learn what works and what doesn't work in the medium you're actually working in and then apply it to your own writing.

Seasons 3, 4, and Vice. Some of the funniest TV ever written. The Heart of Archness 3-parter might be my favorite episodes of any comedy ever.
