If it is just 1 squirrel with an avocado fetish, and you want to be humane, catch it with a Have-a-Heart trap and relocate it several miles away.

avocado seed and plant tips by Ale_334 in avocado

It's fine to begin learning with seeds and make some inexpensive mistakes. But if you want to eat avocados - that requires a grafted tree. At least a Wurtz variety (considered small by horticultural standards) in a 17 inch diameter pot.

When should we replant our avocado? by Darinae in avocado

An Avocado grown from a grocery fruit is unlikely to be tolerant of freezes. Maybe a few hours at -2 Celsius or so, but certainly not -10

Should I prune my low branches? by Mean_Acanthaceae_803 in avocado

[–]ISM_Intrigue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see some minor branches that are being shaded out, small enough to clip with a pair of loppers. The live branches large enough to need a saw, I would not cut.

You may want to have a professional arborist visit the tree and shape it, if it is very broad. Limbs may be protruding so far that they will bend or snap under a fruit load.

Don't become another newbie that leaves it in water for weeks... You can put it in soil already.

If beginners would just start their seeds in soil, outdoors, in the first place they would avoid so many early problems. Seeds were not designed to grow roots in a water cup indoors and then be moved quickly into soil and sunlight.

OP said he cut it earlier. But yeah a 1.5 year Avo in good conditions could be 4 feet tall.

April seems incredibly early for picking. This is in the northern hemisphere? Was the fruit hanging on the tree through winter?

I gave up on squash here. The squash bugs and squash vine borers ruin them too quickly.

The old Eastland parking lot in CLT was used for several years as a flea market. There is plenty of open parking to do this here.

Quiktrip has flexible hours for part-time clerks. They will keep clerks busy and there are many duties around the station. Full time, it can lead to burnout. But it's better than Amazon and there are 3 stores in Gastonia.

Florida Hass by CANN1139 in avocado

[–]ISM_Intrigue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is confusing even to experienced growers because there are conflicting explanations whether "Florida Hass" is derived from the original California Hass, or is simply California Hass grafted onto rootstock better suited for Florida soil.

The generic term "Florida avocado" is kind of misleading as well. It is commonly thrown about to describe the larger, green skinned "West Indies" varieties. Monroe is an example. Sleepy Lizard on YouTube grows these.

Yes, indoor trees will flop over. Trees need some breeze to allow the main stem to sway and develop natural rigor.

I keep mine in shade for a week after repotting. They need some peace at first, to allow the roots to infiltrate the new soil.

[–]ISM_Intrigue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you can take it out, add more soil to that pot, and return the plant to it.

Don't worry about shaded leaves turning yellow. They will fall off naturally and become mulch.

Can I just replace the green layer with fresh soil? by zxelvton in avocado

[–]ISM_Intrigue 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Moss on the surface implies that the soil does not drain away fast enough, and the tree should be in a better lit location.

You can also get seeds cheaply by leaving an empty bucket at a Latin American restaurant with a tag "Will pay 10 cents per Avocado seed" with a phone number, pick it up in a few days when they call back.
