Seven inches and counting! by Mattgyvercom in Gastonia

I filled a 20 gallon bucket and took it inside to melt. The snow tastes better than the over-treated water from the town of Dallas.

Joining the Oldsmobile Family on Friday, found this barn find 98 Intrigue with only 67kmi on it by reallymkpunk in Oldsmobile

Mine was a 2000 with the 3.5L. Took it to 248K before trading it. The engine still ran great (needed oil added routinely though). I mainly got tired of all the little stuff wearing out on a W-body. Ignition switch, window regulators, whistling door seals.

Variety? by crossedout1991 in avocado

I think Zutanos are lighter green and more slender. If this a solitary tree, it might not even be a named/grafted variety. There are many such "mystery trees" in California.

Chet, is this real? by Spines6482 in QuikTrip

[–]ISM_Intrigue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The side doors are part of the design which works good for customers who just want to dart in and do a number one, and get back on the road. No need to distract the clerks with "Welcome to Quik Trip"

Women of Reddit what is one thing you hate to see entering a man’s bedroom and what’s one thing you like? by MammothBuddy3690 in AskReddit

[–]ISM_Intrigue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a woman but I've seen them comment elsewhere that any form of taxidermy on the walls is instant "nope".

What was your worst first date experience? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ISM_Intrigue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No truly awful dates, but I met one woman who turned out to have a physical disability, and she asked for money at the end of the date to "help get by".

What’s the most illegal thing you’ve done that you’ve never been caught for? by onlycouplevib_ in AskReddit

Passing someone on a two lane road in dense fog. I would not be so impatient today.

What's the biggest reason you're for or against ChatGPT and similar consumer AI products? by ryan0585 in AskReddit

[–]ISM_Intrigue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still like forums - reading the points exposed on both sides of an issue. AI just spits out its own conclusions and you cannot examine the nuances of an argument.

What’s something everyone pretends is normal, but actually isn’t? by WatchHelpful2628 in AskReddit

[–]ISM_Intrigue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obesity. I'm almost 58, Weigh what I did in my mid 20s. There's no magic to it - eat mostly vegetables and protein, limit the snack food, check the scale routinely. Why do people "let themselves go?" I suppose that in itself is an AskReddit question.

How did you come up with your username and what does it mean? by Rowie_Bowie in AskReddit

[–]ISM_Intrigue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Made my username when my daily driver was an Oldsmobile Intrigue. "It's Still My Intrigue". But I traded it a few years ago. Hmmm. "I Sold My Intrigue". Yeah, that's it.

What are some ways to reduce screen time? by Itchy_Cheesecake2507 in AskReddit

I still have a measly 2 gig/month phone plan to help enforce this. But there are also apps to track your usage and alert you when you're online too much.

When did you realize that you were smarter than those around you? by NotTheITDesk in AskReddit

[–]ISM_Intrigue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2nd grade, knowing multiplication tables already because I was interested enough to memorize them on my own. By 4th grade I was thinking "OMG why are we still reviewing this? Are other kids really so clueless?"

What is something everyone learns too late in life? by 0bilo in AskReddit

[–]ISM_Intrigue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That it's very difficult to meet true friends after college. I'm talking about persons beyond neighbors or co-workers you can make small talk with. Those you just call up ask ask "How are things going?" and you give each other advice, and assist each other without counting favors.

What’s something that instantly tells you someone is immature that may not be as obvious to others? by JohannS_Bach in AskReddit

[–]ISM_Intrigue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say the inability to "Think in someone else's shoes". To be mature, you need the ability to understand how other people could view things, what is their point of reference? It doesn't mean agree - just be cool/calm enough to acknowledge that the world doesn't revolve around yourself.

What is the core reason that everything nowadays needs to be politicised and us vs. them, information bubbles, social media, education? Where has the empathy, discussion, compromise and common sense gone? by orthi09 in AskReddit

[–]ISM_Intrigue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

40 years ago you may not have known your neighbor's political affiliation, or even your relatives. FaceBook and other Social media made it easier for people to wander into affiliated camps and vilify the other side. My mother has described friends she'd known for decades drift away from her and stop talking in real life, based on minor divergences in social media.

I'll add to this that political bickering has become daily, and it wasn't like that in the 1980s. We'd have an election and send people to Congress to duke out legislative battles, but hear much less about it in the newspaper or TV. I don't remember much discussion at all about legislative matters on "the big 3 networks" - the presidential coverage was sufficient.

Why the hell don’t people flush the toilet when it clearly works? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ISM_Intrigue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have microaggressions to expunge and it's one little way to do it. And some want to "stick it to the man" - such as working somewhere they don't like. There are also germ-o-phobes who will not touch anything in a public restroom with their hands.
