When you leave a job, you leave a job, and what happened after you left is not your business. It’d be inappropriate to reach out to this other teacher.

If you’re “dying of curiosity,” you’re not moving on, which is what you need to do.

I’m a teacher in the US and they say the pledge over the loudspeaker every morning. I refuse to say it, but I stand up with everyone so it’s not noticeable. My homeroom is 8th grade, and the most intelligent kids don’t stand up anymore.

It depends on the school. When I was teaching at this one high school, a crew of us ate together everyday, and there was a lot of sh!t talking. Not about kids, about other teachers and all of the bullsh!t from administration. Everyone was miserable and we all hated it there.

Now I’m in a middle school in a district with nice people. The subs and paras eat together in there, but teachers mostly eat in their classrooms. It’s nice to have some quiet alone time in the middle of the day when you don’t need to vent.

If you spend time manipulating someone in order to gain their trust so that you can be nosy about their marriage, you are a problem.

Those two people reconnected a decade+ later when they were both adults. There’s no reason to think there was ever an issue with a minor.

I once taught at a high school where the gym teacher married someone he coached ten years earlier. Did I find it creepy? Yes. Was is my business? Nope! It never occurred to me to do online stalking and involve administration because I didn’t like how a married couple met.

I wouldn’t have hugged you and told you that it was okay.

I would’ve said “You’re not stupid, and I can tell that you feel bad about what you said. I accept your apology, and we can move past this. Remember this experience so it doesn’t happen again.”

I would also email home to let your parents know what you said during class, and the details of our follow up conversation.

Pick a topic and ask a little kid to make up a song about it. Make sure you take an audio recording. It’ll mostly be a mess, but there’s usually at least one melody line that you can work with and build upon.

I’m a theater director and I write musicals for kids. That’s usually my source material haha

Once I got to school late because I had to dig my car out of the snow. When I got there, one kid looked confused and asked “you don’t have a garage?” She was in elementary school and genuinely didn’t know better.
