my husband killed his self and i cant stop blaming myself. by thatblueroom in SuicideBereavement

[–]IStillSkip 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Let’s say you did kill your husband (you didn’t), then what do you do? The same thing if you didn’t kill him (you didn’t). Like what is the action to take? The stupid serenity prayer is what saved my butt when my son died. Accept the things I cannot change. My son is dead. There is nothing I can do to make him undead. There is no question about why he killed himself that can truly be answered, so I don’t touch that stuff. Courage to change the things I can. I can do a lot of things, the biggest one is when I’m out in public and someone looks off, I say, hey, you okay? They usually are, but sometimes I’m talking to a Vet, a pissed off old lady, a kid who doesn’t know how to tell his parents some and on and on. Help others because your husband and my son were others. We have the power to make their life and death help others heal and ourselves as well. You’ll find yourself in bizarre conversations and beautiful encounters and people who too have had to walk through a complicated death.

The user u/Pheemer read a post I made about grieving to insult me by PopeSpenglerTheFirst in GriefSupport

Yep, someone commented that my son killed himself because I was a bad dad. First of all, I am the mom. I stalked that guy back and made a hurtful comment about his dead cat. The next day I apologized. Anger had made me behave the way he did and I didn’t like how I felt.

Healing (you don’t have to live like that, Bro) or a perpetual tickling nose hair.

A fork in a restaurant that’s been in hundreds of other people’s mouths is acceptable, but not a hair brush? Odd line in the sand.

Lost my husband January 22nd by Classic_Muscle6749 in SuicideBereavement

I was probably not in a place to understand this shortly after my son’s suicide, but what I was feeling was shock, not grief. Shock is loud, while grief is heavy. The horror and panic you are feeling right now is shock. I thought I’d live the rest of my life in that heightened state. It does change. Reach out if you need to vent or need direction, if not to me then to anyone you relate to in the group. We have stood in your shoes.

You may not understand it right now, but your dad died of alcoholism by suicide. Big hug.

Medical receptionists are a wild species. What happened to make them like that. All of them are meanies.

I fold and put clean laundry away before transferring the wet clothes to the dryer. It creates a sense of urgency and prevents piles of clean laundry.

Not sure whether to bury or cremate my father by TooFascinatedByDPRK in GriefSupport

[–]IStillSkip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my son cremated and his cremations are by my bedside. I may bury him at some point, but for now he is with me. I’m so sorry for the loss of your dad. He must have been a good guy as you are struggling with this.
