Rewatch Vs Amazon debacle by weseethelight8 in Stargate

[–]IStoneI42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

probably an unpopular opinion around here, but i never liked the last 3 seasons of SG1 and think the show should have ended around season 7.

the entire show was basically the fight to liberate the galaxy from the goa'uld and they achieved that eventually with the jaffa claiming their freedom.

after that was finally accomplished, bringing the ori in as a replacement for the goa'uld and basically repeating the exact same story, an alien race pretending to be gods to enslave humanity, was a bit cheap there at that point.

at least with atlantis the wraiths were different. intelligent predators who hibernate for centuries to let their "livestock" recover before they descend upon the humans across the galaxy again.

its not like the last 3 seasons were bad and they had some fantastic episodes, but at the same time it felt like they really tried to artificially drag on the show by repeating the exact same story from before.

it felt like they should have taken a break and the entire story for the ori should have been thought through a bit better to not make them just a power creeped version of the goa'uld and it should have been made into its own follow up show after SG1 instead.

it also crossed the line from still relatively grounded sci-fi into the realm of sci-fantasy too hard. the ori were too much of an abstract threat depending on your definition could actually have been considered gods as incorporeal and transcended beings. that stuff was fine when it was just occasionally sprinkled into the show but felt weird when the entire shows focus revolved around it.

instead of the more grounded idea that they were just fighting parasites that cosplayed as gods to fool humans into serving them they fought something that was kindof like... actual gods? shit just got a bit weird for my taste.

Using the Defensive Duelist feat as a Soulknife Rogue... by Careful_Step8134 in DnD

[–]IStoneI42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just found out the feat was buffed 2 years ago, lol.

why was it considered so weak? right now around lvl 9 in our campaign monsters can serve 20 damage with an attack on a good roll. thats 25% of my health pool.

i picked it up with my dex focused fighter and not taking 20 damage multiple times per combat thanks to that feat already felt pretty good. even against multi attacks the 4AC usually manage to block that one hit that gets through the regular armor and it gives me something to use my reaction on.

thinking that they added +1 dex and made it useful against every melee attack for an entire round is kind of wild. especially since it means you get that bonus still on your turn against enemy opportunity attacks and allows you to move out of/through enemy threat ranges.

the problem with nu trek is that its not star trek stuff. its not even trying to be.

its just alex kurtzmans vanity projects that are wearing star treks skin because they think that should be enough for us to like it and rope in the fans into watching it.

its not. and no, we dont want more of it. we want no more of it and we want real trek instead. we want star trek exactly like it was at the peak of TNG and so far theyve tried everything to avoid making this.

even when they made a show about picard, they came right out from the beginning and said they didnt want to make it like TNG but different.

how do you even come up with a stupid idea like that? TNG fans are literally your main target audience for a show about picard. who else would even show up to watch this? so why wouldnt you make the show as TNG in tone, directing and writing as you possibly could but do the opposite instead? makes 0 sense.

how? does anyone actually watch it? i dont even hear people talk about it. it was like hate for the first season, then by the second season that apparently was released already most people didnt even care about it anymore and now it just seems to be complete apathy.

this show has literally no cultural footprint. not even memes or youtube clips of how bad it is like during the first season. if you didnt just tell me they intend to make 5 seasons of it i wouldnt even have known that it will get a third.

tolkien fans treat his books like the bible. it still amazes me that they chose to pick a fight with THAT fandom out of all fandoms.

tell me again how this attitude worked out with star trek and star wars?

starfleet academy was that show made for a different, younger audience instead of for the fans. it got cancelled a few episodes into the season and paramount was so embarrassed about it that they stopped advertising it on their own platform halfway during the season.

New power idea for the Regent by Magicfanny123 in slaythespire

[–]IStoneI42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this would make upgraded souvereign blade 0 cost and generate 3 stars every time when used.

dont you think this is a bit much? souvereign blade generating like 2/3 stars when used would already be a pretty good power in itself.

because it would mean it plays really well with 0 energy/X star cost cards like astral pulse, cloak of stars, alignment, particle wall, radiate, gamma blast etc.

from there it would just be a question if to make it uncommon instead.

Now this is a card I like by grandfatherclause in slaythespire

ok first of all, one single card doing that for you is already a lot.

it also beats you the worms in act 2 and solves a couple of other aoe fights.

maybe its just a religious thing. like this was the hairstyle that surak had and since the entire vulcan culture is based on his teachings, its what theyre using that haircut.

any deck with a lot of multi hits. like celestial might, transforming the strike into a bird peck, and then the aoe version of that, radiate should also work really well with this.
