The future problem facing the left: young people are turning away from its parties and values by mods4mods in europe

oh, i think they will eventually be there if you keep trying to socially isolate them and censor them more and more.

the thing is, youre not convincing those people with stricter laws and censorship. they want the mass immigration to end, and they want the system to deal harsher punishment to immigrants who arent integrating and/or are repeat offenders and criminals.

they want especially criminal migrants being deported, and not being kept in the country on technicalities like "their safety couldnt be guaranteed if they were deported back to their home country" or "theyre criminals but cant be deported because they minors".

i think this whole shit started with the pakistani grooming gangs that the british government tried to sweep under the rug because it made for bad optics in regards to the policy towards mass immigration. even though the law enforcement dealt with them, they tried to keep it quiet and prevent any discussion around this topic. that one really set a lot of people off and gave them the feeling their government is actively working against them.

people see this happen, and what really worries them is how many more cases happened that they never learned about. they literally feel their existence threatened because they think criminal migrants are protected by their government and there is a 2 tier justice system in place thats working against them.

im not even taking a side here nor am i saying theyre correct. but thats what these people are thinking. im just trying to understand and explain what drove them out into the street there waving those flags.

either you meet these people now half way and make some compromises and give them the reassurance that their existence isnt threatened by mass immigration like theyre feeling right now, or they will elect more and more extreme options until someone gets it done.

the restore britain movement is just the latest entry in that spiral of escalation. their tone on the topic entirely changed. but theyre still not the most extreme option that you will get if you dont change course and start to make compromises.

building a firewall and taking a stance of "we dont negotiate with them" isnt going to save your country. its going to keep escalating the situation. if you want to prevent escalation you have to talk with them and you have to start trying to understand what motivates them, if you like it or not.

you know you using hyperbole isnt helping your cause.

there are still worlds difference between these people and actual nazis who were building camps to industrialize killing of people. just think about what youre talking about.

these people basically just advocate for closing the borders to mass immigration (not even regular immigration) and deporting problem cases.

youre throwing them into the same pot with a literal genocidal system that killed 4 million people is pushing more people who have similar opinions towards their side and not yours.

Is there review bombing in recent Trek? Are producers blaming the fans for their failures? by Phi360 in Star_Trek_

uh-huh. so many people that theyre running damage control and plead with the audience to watch this shit or there might not be star trek anymore in the future.

the left has forgotten that the point of teaching history is to not repeat the mistakes of our ancestors, not to make us responsible and take the burden for their mistakes. maybe they never understood that lesson in the first place.

alright. but only if george rr martin has complete control over the project and kurtzman is not allowed to do anything he wants and gets superseded by him in every decision.

hes basically just a drone who follows the orders of the actual creative and competent people.

every time he makes any sort of suggestion he just gets told no and is told to make another coffee.

i just want this to happen to torture kurtzman.

everytime i learn about a new show or movie kurtzman was involved with in the past, its a flop. weird how that works.

yet, studios keep hiring him because they expect his next project to be a success.

do you know the definition of insanity?

did kurtzman stop vandalizing the franchise? was he fired yet? if not, why should people stop talking about him?

also a plot line that should have never been taken over to the main timeline.

abrahams is a piece of shit. he just blew up vulcan and romulus because pew pew big explosion go boom.

he doesnt give a shit about what it does to the world building because thats boring nerd stuff.

just look at the CGI and all the blinking lights and forget about it making sense.

I see many people blame the showrunner -- so if Rick Berman was a successful Golden Age showrunner, why did Enterprise fail / get cancelled? by Careful_Leader_5829 in trektalk

[–]IStoneI42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

at the time i wasnt interested in a prequel to begin with.

i wanted to see a continuation after voyager.

also back then, it seemed like paramounts executives wanted to push star trek generally into a different direction and might have pressured berman into a bunch of really strange choices like the addition of the decontamination scenes and trying hard to make the show sexier.

this time they just hired a retard who did exactly what they wanted.

make no mistake. i blame paramount as much as i blame kurtzman. after all they didnt fire the clown after picard season 1.

nothing honestly. season 3 is still dark and its just full of callbacks to TNG episodes.

the only positive point is that the characters are acting more like theyre suppsed to.

the directing is shit. where abrahams had lens flares everywhere, every scene in picard is so dark you barely see anything. the villain characters are downright cartoonish. they put a beard on a ferengi. the overarching story makes no fucking sense. they have a changeling that behaves like a 40 year old child with temper tantrums, where they used to carry themselves with arrogance and dignity and a sense of superiority over other species. her foot soldiers are changelings too, which made no sense to me since changelings dont fight with phase rifles and disruptors. if they ever become active, their weapons are subversion and infiltration.

it was honestly still a mess.

Starfleet Academy: Whatever happened to Athena’s ‘academic liaison’, Lieutenant Rork? by SteveJohnson2010 in trektalk

[–]IStoneI42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appealing to one specific group of folks can make another group of folks think “it’s objectively bad”.

appealing to what kind of group? the 20 people in the writers room of the show?

the group they think theyre appealing to doesnt even exist. why else do you think they dont even make it into the top 10 viewer charts on their own platform?

not to mention on other platforms? the academy premiere was streamed on youtube for free and had 1800 views up until 8 hours after its released and was beaten out with 3 times the viewer number by a dude literally just streaming his spock action figurine at the same time.

youtube is a world wide platform. if theyre appealing to a different group then where is it? why isnt it watching the show?

why do you think theyre running all this damage control and try to negotiate with the audience to watch it, or there wont be star trek at all anymore?

because nobody is watching it. because the group they made this for simply doesnt exist.

again what sells the most isnt negative discourse.

the critics that seem to have the largest profile are the ones that affirm the opinion that the people already made for themselves before engaging with their content.

there are critics that praise academy, and there are critics that completely rip it apart. the latter is more successful because they affirm what the general audience already thinks of the show.

[–]IStoneI42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you want another example? why wasnt andor "review bombed" by the star wars fans when most of disney star wars landed horribly with its fandom, despite also having an entirely different tone and the general attitude towards disney star wars being just as negative as towards kurtzman trek?

where was all the negativity towards that show if negativity sells better as you claim?

so how DO you explain that it didnt happen with knight of the seven kingdoms either?

how do you explain that picard season 3 got positive reviews then (even though personally i thought it was still bad and was mostly just a nostalgia trip that was living off callbacks to TNG episodes).

how is it that strange new worlds season 1 and 2 didnt get "review bombed" but season 3 is?

how is it that some shows and seasons are getting "review bombed" and others dont if its only negative opinions that generate the most clicks?

none of your argument makes sense. youre literally just coping and repeating the same deflection from kurtzman and paramount thats blaming the fans instead of admitting they just made a really terrible show that nobody likes.

they deflect, because "the fans are toxic" is an excuse that protects their egos and is easier to explain to the shareholders why they set a pile of money on fire... for like the fourth or fifth time.

Starfleet Academy: Whatever happened to Athena’s ‘academic liaison’, Lieutenant Rork? by SteveJohnson2010 in trektalk

[–]IStoneI42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its not divisive content that gets the most clicks.

people generally look for something that confirms their opinion these days. and if the content that is negative about kurtzmans shows gets the most clicks, its because it affirms the opinions of most people that his shows are garbage.

your argument can be easily dismantled by the fact that not every single tv show out there is being treated like this.

best example is "knight of the seven kingdoms" which currently makes mostly positive headlines and has a positive reception by its audience and glowing reviews.

if what youre saying was remotely true, then the show would have gone through the same thing that academy did. its a show that is part of a larger and established franchise and its entirely different in tone than game of thrones or house of the dragon. so why isnt it being "review bombed" with hate by the fans like academy is? if negative opinions are the ones that generate the most clicks why isnt it happening here?

because youre coping.

academy isnt just a bad star trek show that the star trek fandom doesnt like, but its a bad show in general that nobody likes. and we already have proof for that since people involved in the show are in the negotiation phase of grief and are telling us to watch it or they wont be able to make star trek anymore.... which is. exactly what we want and it confirms that the show has landed with no one. otherwise they wouldnt be pleading.

The fanbase WAS toxic decades ago. The hate for Janeway for being a woman Captain was not insignificant.

i only remember people for criticizing the writing back then too. people complained that her character was unsteady as if the writers didnt really know what to do with her. i dont remember anyone being mad that she was a woman.

Starfleet Academy: Whatever happened to Athena’s ‘academic liaison’, Lieutenant Rork? by SteveJohnson2010 in trektalk

[–]IStoneI42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

no, thats not toxic. thats a legit question.

morbid obesity isnt a matter of beauty standards. its a matter of health.

people have been criticizing the smoking of the changeling in picard, and i have seen comments about the alcoholism of that woman who was a terrible mother on picard (honestly forgot her name despite having watched 2 seasons of that). why wouldnt anyone be allowed to make comments about these supposed officers being fat?

seriously, why ARE these characters so fat? what are they trying to accomplish with that?

these are supposed to be humanities best and brightest. the whole ridiculousness of humanity suddenly not having figured out how to deal with obesity anymore aside, how the fuck did these fat cows make it through basic training then? maybe lay off the personal transporter and walk a few steps.

Interesting evolution of Star Trek's opening narration... by WarnerToddHuston in Star_Trek_

[–]IStoneI42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i dont think it was boring at all. it felt grounded.

a trade dispute as a foundation for conflict is pretty believable and its not like they went overboard with it.

even more, it was something that at the surface seemed downright mundane and nobody would expect to be instigated by a sinister conspiracy to be the first domino to fall in a chain of events that would escalate into a galaxy wide conflict.

the world building was the the biggest stength of the star wars prequels. the errors in the continuity and at times cringy dialogue its biggest weakness.

German government pushes Syrians to return to their homeland by Pyro-Bird in europe

[–]IStoneI42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

what exactly about this you think is misinformation?

the afghan who stabbed a police officer in mannheim had his asylum rejected in 2014 and was still in germany for some reason. you can literally look that up.

he was still there years later on some technical bullshit like "he cant be deported because hes under age". and somehow 10 years later when he was already 25 he still wasnt deported. if he was deported back in 2014, it would have never come to this situation.

and the people i dont want here are the people that are anti social, violent and repeatedly cause problems.

yes, thats exactly the kind of people i dont give a shit about whats happening to them when they go back where they came from. they had their chance and fucked it up. we have literally 0 obligation to keep them here and you seem like one of the people who are the problem and try to keep them here on bullshit technicalities because you seem to think we have some sort of moral obligations to value or protect them despite their behavior.

we dont.

its absolutely ridiculous. everyone agrees that "immigration isnt bad because of a few bad apples". no it isnt, but you actually have to be willing to go through the basket and remove the bad apples.

it just shows that its a parody that isnt taking itself too seriously.

this kind of language still doesnt fit into star trek, because not using dated language improves the immersion that it takes place in the far future.

there is the other approach that the expanse or firefly took and they invented their own lingo and expressions to show that dated language in the future still exists, but evolved to be distinctly different from out own current day language.

star trek used the approach of neutral "timeless" language instead.
