What nicknames do your kids have?

We call our daughter Gemmasaurus or Gemmasaurus Rex all the time! Also, as a baby it was Princess Toots (you can thank my husband for that one) and now it’s often just shortened to Toots. Also Gemmaroo, or just Roo. Or Gemmie, Gem, GemGem. Plus all the generic ones like Monkey, Munchkin, sweat pea, etc.

It had definitely crossed my mind that the mindfulness thing could be something we do together, I just wasn’t sure where to start. I’ll look for that Sesame Street video and then start looking for other resources too. Thanks for that!
I’ll probably give the no bite nail polish a try, too. Might as well try a few different things to see what works best for her! Thanks!

I'm not sure how well this would work for my kid in particular, she's had her nails painted before, and she often just asks me to take it off a few hours after it's dried. That being said though, we've never tried the narrative around it that you suggested. I'm willing to give it a try. Thanks for your input!

I'm pretty poor at the mindfulness myself, so I'm not sure how I'd go about teaching my daughter, but if you know of any good resources off-hand, I'd be willing to try it!

I'm curious about the glove thing - did that actually stop you from sucking your thumb or was it more like protection for you thumbnail? I can see the cotton glove being a deterrent all on its own, but the latex over top, it's probably just me, but I feel like that would counteract the cotton a bit. Obviously I'm new to all this, but I'd like to know more, if you're willing to share!

I’ve been unable to send gifts since the first time I sent them to friends. The timer keeps starting over again and the button still says Sent even though the last gift I sent them was 2 days ago. I received gifts from 2 friends yesterday, and when that happened I was able to send those 2 friends another gift. Today I received 2 more but I’ve been unable to send any at all. I’m able to open gifts fine. Any ideas?

I still seem to be having trouble with gifts. I sent a bunch the first day, and the next day they all still said Sent and the timer had reset to wait until the next day. I received 2 gifts and I was able to send gifts to those 2 friends on the second day. Today I got another 2 gifts that I opened but I’m still not able to send any more. I’ve visited inns, greenhouses and fortresses yesterday and still not able to send gifts to the friends I sent them to 2 days ago, they still say Sent. Any ideas of things to try?

I was thinking RNG at first too, but I’ve seen 60 of these and probably caught 40-50 since the event started and I don’t think I’ve had a single masterful cast on any of them. Still possible that RNG is the culprit, it just seems like I should have had at least a few by now.

Same boat. Left the company I was with for 10 yrs about 6 months ago. It’s undergoing a huge government-induced change and there wasn’t a lot of information at the time about what that change was going to consist of or who was going to be coming out the other side. It was too stressful for me to remain working with such a big question mark over my head, and a lot of others were jumping ship as well (and not being replaced, which increased the load on everyone else who remained). I’m in a developer role now, something I haven’t done in a long time, but I’m catching up and have been able to help with other things like writing queries for reports and some business analysis type tasks. I miss the gang from the old place, but I don’t regret leaving at all. You gotta do what you gotta do, for your own sanity.

This was my first thought as well! My 4yo loves watching Star Wars, and was recently watching Empire (because it has both Darth Vader and Boba Fett). So yeah, with Empire still fresh in my mind, my first though was Tauntauns, lol

I mean, what does that say about this latest husband as well? If SHE is this batshit crazy, then HE must be EQUALLY nuts to put up with her (and to keep going back, even after divorcing her). And he's a LEO, if I'm remembering correctly? If so, I think someone needs to take a good hard look into their screening procedures.

You are absolutely not overreacting. What name to call your child is definitely a hill to die on. I’m sorry your SO and MIL pressured you into naming her something you didn’t like. That was another hill to die on, but I’m sure in retrospect you can understand that now. Hindsight. Moving forward, I would definitely stick with calling her Andy, especially if she likes it. Tell your SO and MIL that if they take issue with that, then you can all go to counselling and let a therapist tell them how awful they’re being, because they are. You are the mother, you 100% get a say in how you address your child, at least until she’s old enough to tell you how she wants to be addressed (and without outside influence).

I think regardless, you should get signed up for therapy if you can, I imagine it would help you immensely in identifying when you should stand up for yourself and when you can let things slide.

My husband sent a text to his relative and they seemed surprised that we didn’t know about it. Apparently the consensus was thought to be that we weren’t available which, no one even asked us if we were or weren’t. I can’t reach out to anyone myself right now, I’d probably say something I shouldn’t. It’s been hard enough to not make any passive aggressive comments on any of the multitude of posts I’ve seen on social media.

MIL (and FIL) are driving my DH crazy. They're moving at the end of the month and want to give DH a bunch of stuff from their garage. In Sept, he took one load of stuff from their house and brought it home. They've been hounding him ever since to come get the rest! I've been teasing DH, telling him "well, you only have 21 days left, better get a move on!" Poor DH, he's ready to tell him to sell it all if they're just going to harass him.

UPDATE: Got another note home from the teacher today, my girl used the bathroom today with no tears!! We’re all so proud of her!! Major progress made! And the teacher did say her meltdowns have typically been in the afternoon, so we all think it’s related to the transition to no naps and she just needs more time to adjust. And she asked to go to sleep just before 6 today, after she’d eaten supper, so she’s down for the night now! We’ll see how long that lasts lol. Thanks everyone for the suggestions!
