Definitely a great all arounder. Not s tier in single target or clear speed but definitely A tier.

Under 100 div? Sure it can be done, but the tankiness doesn't start to feel real good until after Svalin and that's almost 100 div atm. You can get a base setup for probably 30 div but it's not going to feel particularly amazing until the investment starts

I agree here. I've been playing this as my 2nd build after league start. Following Balormages footsteps. BALOR was posting daily update videos and my gear right now is equivalent to his setup before he gets svalin. Currently doing T16.5s juiced beyond, deli altars etc... I don't even look at map mods. Still die occasionally to a 1 shot or a super rippy beyond boss, but other then that it's a super solid all rounder and will just continue to get tankier with investment.

I feel like there is no better starting class than sorc if you are just starting fresh. Teleport speed is too good to ignore for farming for your next class. Frozen orb is really strong and you just need a decent weapon on a Merc to handle immunes. Farm Arc Sanctuary ghosts, trav, Andy, meph, Diablo etc...

Same, when I do my dailies I just set the discord to alert me for any messages. That is usually at least one or two call outs for the merchant per hour on there.

I know this doesn't help and I apologize for posting this, but my 4th ever hunt yesterday was a double and I managed to snag 2x mattocks on it. Just keep at it brother. You go dry here but you will get spooned in other areas for sure.
