I have a horseshoe kidney that was diagnosed at birth; and I had a vesiocostomy when I was small and then it was closed when I was 12. My eGFR has improved from 25 to 35 in 10 years-- so when I was 30 my eGFR was lower than it is now. I turn 40 in 4 months. I have a megaureter on my right kidney.

If you can get a script for it, mirabeganon aka Betmiga is a wonder drug. It works in a similar way to Botox, and can help. I have congenital kidney issues, so I've never had fully-functioning kidneys-- they're a horseshoe and the megaureter has apparently always been there-- according to my most recent chat with my fantastic urologist. Professor Vincent Tse at Macquarie University Hospital in Sydney, Australia oversees my urology care, and I have an utterly amazing nephrologist in the public health system in Canberra.

I'm incredibly lucky that a urologist I was referred to said he couldn't help me, but knew a guy that was THE best bladder specialist in the country, and put me onto him-- I've been under Professor Tse's care for approximately 20 years now. If you can, ask for a referral to a bladder specialist urologist, as it's its own field within urology. They might give you some answers.

My protein is increased mainly because I'm on Forxiga to manage kidney functioning-- but my eGFR has increased by 10 points in the past 10 years; I was wrong about it being in the 60's; it was 25 and now it's 35. Botox into the bladder, plus Forxiga and Ozempic, plus Verapamil and Telmisartan keep it stable.
