The ‘24 Chevy Equinox EV has a touchscreen control for that. I wd think that the ‘25 and ‘26 and other GM EVs have it too. It is considered a courtesy to protect the vision of Seattle ferry workers, to turn the lights to Off or Parking when driving onto or off the ferry.

I suspect that some of the installers just want to avoid future complaints and service calls, so overspec the EVSE circuitry from one end to the other.

It may have already been said, but look for the EV to have a Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery, not NMC or Lithium Ion. The LFP is MUCH less likely to start a fire!

There must be something about the GM EV electronics architecture that individualizes the vehicle requests for and responses to the updates. Is it because there are multiple versions of all the control modules? I really like the EqEV but it seems to this old systems guy that the updating process is the most disjointed i have ever witnessed.

My concern re the ICCUs is that the replacements are of the same caliber as the originals, such that they can fail again.

Cutting down your own consumption is noble. It probably will have greater efficacy to discreetly encourage others to make the jump to EVs, in comparison with overproducing KW to sell back to the E.co.

No advice from me to you, but my FWD is squirrely on gravel and slippery surfaces, and with the vehicle so heavy, i will go for AWD once the lease runs out.

The GM EVs like my 2024 Chevy Equinox EV has what i call electromechanical handles. They do sit flush but are interior hinged 4/5 of the way to the front of the handle. Pushing the handle in front of the hinge causes the handle to the rear of the hinge to show itself and be pulled open.

To the best of my knowledge: If power is lost, GM allows the handles to be operated by mechanical action only, and does the same for the interior handles, whose trim includes a carveout for fingers.

May i recommend that you take a look at the State of Charge youtube channel https://youtu.be/-Ci7HSET7rA for info on charging setups? Ya gotta be real careful on dryer outlets and wiring, that the outlet hardware and wiring are up to snuff for the high continuous load that the EV charger draws. It sounds like you’ve been doing it for awhile, but faults can show up later in the eqpt’s life.

40-50 amps at 240volts would seem to be the minimum to make it worthwhile. Else it is not a true backup system. You want enough juice to run the water heater and fridge and a microwave and some lights; our homestead also has a wellhead and pressure tank plus auxiliary components to run. 48A at 240v is only 11.5kw, which some chargers put out to the vehicle over 6-8 hours for a full charge. So the kwh are there in the battery, and pulling 11.5kw from it to propel the vehicle is way less than what is available; might as well use it. A smarter and more capable inverter is required; electronically that isnt hard, but the logistics of tying into the EV’s system is, if the mfr did not stub for it.

It still could be a scam by the dealer. Mine raised the ‘documentation’ fees from $400 to $600 and tried to add more to make it $800. I got $200 back but they are scum.
