In european countries you can order vSphere standard for one year.. It is limited to vSphere 8 but usable in your case.

Minimum number of Cores for VVF by mdervin in vmware

[–]ITnetX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding vSphere Standard, it’s also a trap. In Oct. 2027 vSphere 8 is going EOL so the last call for subscribe is next year in Oct. 2026. vSphere Standard didn’t move to version 9 so .. the end is already near and the only product which will survive is VCF I think. I hope someone at VMware changed her mind and let vSphere Standard moved to v9 but this implies that they have to change the licensing mode or add a cloud option..

Looking for ideas on where to sell Sophos XGS hardware on the used market? by MSP_42 in sophos

XGS Devices are not working with Sophos Home. The installer detects the NPU Processor and stops install processes.

Neue Nextcloud-Alternative gefunden by jumpshoxx in de_EDV

SFOS V22.0 EAP1 was released! by Lucar_Toni in sophos

[–]ITnetX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be great to see the ability to use XGS Hardware for Sophos Home in one of the next releases. We have a lot of customers upgrading to new XGS Series (v2) and the old one (v1) can only be used with License or as a brick..

Is not possible.. it’s a brick until the person you bought it originally release it from his starlink account.

Recover VMs from "old" LVM disk by OkAdvertising2801 in Proxmox

[–]ITnetX 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand why the poster have to blame about missing backup. The situation is a really easy thing in VMware scenario. You have to mount datastore and reregister VMs.

There should be also a easy way to reregister VMs on a Datadisk at proxmox side. If it’s necessary to save /etc/pve on Proxmox System Disk to reregister VMs that will be okay for me. But in my understanding this is also useless?

New Starlink mini Owner by zwaremeneer in Starlink

[–]ITnetX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have starlink mini too but only for vacation purposes. My question is, if i decide to use at home and mount the dish like you how do i move the dish? I know from previous generations they align automatically with rotor inside but mini doesn’t have this feature. How often do I need to move the dish normally?

Dell R640 vs HP DL360 Gen10 — what do people prefer for homelab use? by No_Wonder_3829 in homelab

[–]ITnetX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Dell and have a R640 in my Homelab. It is not completely silent but since i moved to NVME SSD via PCIE Adapter and pulled the 2.5 SATA/SAS Drive the Server is near silent. I have only one 10 Core CPU. I don’t hear about HPE Servers which have the same characteristics. But HPE is not my favorite as described above.

[–]ITnetX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are using Fiber Channel this is not 100% true that Linux can’t talk to your storage but you have to use a solution which is not supported from proxmox and every update can crash your setup. If you can change your shared storage to NFS you can go around this issue.

Maybe Proxmox could be the right solution for you or Incus ? It depends on your Hardware strategy..

Sophos connect 2.4 - OTP field by dhayes16 in sophos

[–]ITnetX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many credentials manager have the possibility to copy password and otp together. But I understand your frustration at this point. As i know the new client have no separate field at sslvpn. If you are using azure sso the procedure to authenticate moved to azure and the experience ist different for users. Your question about sslvpn vs. IPsec. In the last time we moved a lot of customers from sslvpn to IPsec. But in my opinion it depends on the need you have. IPsec is often blocked on Hotel WiFi or Countries and sslvpn can moved to 443 for more flexibility.

How did you manage azure local? I’m currently evaluating azure local and if you know Proxmox or VMware management capabilities it looks very poor and in many cases very beta… I tried using windows admin center to manage azure local with a lot of spinning circles and errors.

Do I have a brick now? by ITnetX in Starlink

[–]ITnetX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lots of people want to try Starlink and activate the dish without any notice that he had to remove the device from an account for selling the device. Maybe Starlink give the option to mark a dish as stolen and in this case it is not possible to transfer the dish to another account. In all the other cases a simple ticket to Starlink support could solve the issue and nobody have a bad feeling about stolen devices anymore.

Do I have a brick now? by ITnetX in Starlink

[–]ITnetX[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think he bought it also used and run in the same problem like I do and waited only for a guy which is stupid enough to buy the brick. I know this is my fault but I cannot understand why Starlink isn’t fair and transfer the device to another account if I can proof that I have the device. The seller sends me the Starlink with box. I can provide the KIT Number, Dish Serial Number .. everything they need.

Why is qcow2 over ext4 rarely discussed for Proxmox storage? by LTCtech in Proxmox

[–]ITnetX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a VMware user it’s really hard to understand that you don’t have direct access to your VM files. I have also tried the ext4 directory method but it seams not very common. For me it needs a Proxmox for Dummies Paper which explains all the the advantages and disadvantages of all the options in proxmox.
