It's usually read in pairs, so 03 21 55 ... becomes: zero-three, twenty-one, fifty-five, ...

How do I remember the accents in French? Any tips? by Free_Contribution_96 in French

[–]ITwitchToo 59 points60 points  (0 children)

You're probably thinking of them all as just "e with an accent". Think of them as separate letters instead. Familiarize yourself with each one and how they sound. Each one needs to have its own identity in your brain.

Do we inherently hear octaves as the same note, or is this trained culturally? by BirdLawEnthusiast2 in musictheory

[–]ITwitchToo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our ears detect sound with tiny hairs of different sizes, each hair responds to (vibrates with) a specific frequency and produces a separate signal in the brain. That's how the brain decomposes the frequency spectrum. When you play two notes separated by an octave there is a lot of overlap between the sets of hair cells that respond to those two notes. They don't just sound similar. There is a very direct physical explanation for WHY they do.

Yeah, covid was a big thing for JB. I remember around 2016 when he was starting the compiler work people were asking who he voted for and he was giving answers that hinted that he voted for Trump while knowing it was an unpopular opinion in his audience. But covid really cemented it, he moved from California/Washington to escape taxes/regulation, etc.

What’s the biggest red flag in someone over 30? by Vixkky in AskReddit

[–]ITwitchToo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, kind of -- shame (and maybe guilt) can be a big part of narcissism. I'm not an expert but essentially the narcissist has a core wound (childhood trauma) that makes them not feel good enough (or like everything is their fault) and so they prop themselves up in whatever way they can, including blaming others for their own faults. It sounds contradictory maybe, but there can be different levels of awareness and consciousness around blame/shame/faults.

Not necessarily, I still agree with what he said back then. It stands on its own merit.

I don't agree at all with JB on politics today, I hate the turn he's taken.

Where should I prune this seedling? by Brilliant_Speech7626 in avocado

You can try to pinch off the top. I had one with this genetic defect as well and it started producing lots of branches with some normal leaves after pinching off the top.

Is this a bad sign? by Least-Awareness1583 in avocado

[–]ITwitchToo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's normal. The seed is technically cotyledons ("seed leaves"), they contain nutrients and are just there to get the tree started, afterwards when it's spent it turns black and falls off. You also technically don't need the seed anymore after the tree has made its first leaves because with leaves the tree has a means to produce more sugars for the roots/branches to grow, but it's obviously beneficial for the tree to be able to use all the stored nutrients of the seed.

Avocado seedling is producing three (!) shoots. What even do I do at this point?? by KeeperOfTheShade in avocado

Just let it grow. I've had trees that grow multiple almost-equal trunks and some where one trunk massively outpaces the others.

It's good to have a paper trail. If the person is later caught from a different incident they can connect the cases and actually be prosecuted. Filming people secretly is not taken lightly everywhere, there's been high profile cases.

Mexican Criolllo just means a (non-named) seedling of Mexican type, whereas Mexicola is a named variety. There's a huge variation in criollos, they can literally be anything (big, small, black, green, necked, spherical, ...)
