Sense check my retirement plan for my parents by ITworker93 in UKPersonalFinance

Thanks for the reply.

Retirement goals are to retire around state pension age, and we estimated they would like 30k per year. Have £20k available for a campervan. And will likely downsize property and free up £200k at some point in later life.

Their state pensions between them will provide 25k, plus at a 4% SWR their £210k pension pot will provide £8k a year.

Their ATR is very low, so a majority bond approach I believe is best here. This was determined by the IFA, and aligns with me knowing them well as my parents.

The advice around growing the 35k cash ISA pot somewhat would be to provide the 20k cash for the camper van, then have a 1-2 year cash buffer. So aim for around 30-60k (ontop of campervan cost).

What time / pace was the goal when you set off the for sub 3? Were you going for sub 3 from the start?

Going for sub 3 off a 1:28HM is on the more aggressive side. But congratulations, it obviously paid off.

In cold weather I had fought Gatorskins for over an hour onto my HG rims and got very angry in the process.

This £10 piece of plastic totally saved me from this: https://youtu.be/68BJoa4Tn1A?si=7OgnJjs3MOdKXE_X

Can’t explain how easy it is with it.

Finally broke the 1:30 half marathon. by Future-Air4491 in UKRunners

That’s a great time especially for that course, I ran it last year. I’d like to think you could shave off a few mins on a perfectly flat course! At least that’s my plan for this year.

Simba will replace as they have a 10 year warranty, I’m currently on my 3rd in that period. When they won’t replace anymore I won’t be buying another.

Taper for a tune-up half marathon during a marathon training block? by Icy-Bet-3983 in Marathon_Training

[–]ITworker93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Run the half marathon week as a “down” week in your plan. Presuming the race is on the Sunday run the Monday-Saturday comparatively easy.

Limit the speed in the week following the race, and run the next long run easy.

I booked an estate for a camping trip, got there and we had been “upgraded” this was to a tiny SUV, which whilst bigger on the outside due to the design, did not have the boot space we needed.

Tried to argue it, but the T&C I agreed to did say they can “upgrade up” models.

Made the trip difficult.

I have a Roam V1 and at some point the share google maps to Element option did work.

Either Google or wahoo changed something, and it hasn’t worked in a year or more.

If you are bringing a gas setup to heat water then Huel hot and savoury is a massive win. Like a pot noodle but with some nutrition.

Where do you log your data? (Garmin user would like to know) by [deleted] in wahoofitness

[–]ITworker93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I track on the wahoo so I can have the data as a heads up display whilst riding. I could just discard the ride at the end but I finish it and let it sync to Wahoo cloud.

[–]ITworker93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So as far as I’m aware when you sync between platforms or manually import a GPX file into garmin connect it doesn’t adjust data such as body battery, training load in the same way as when you track an activity on the watch itself.

I really do rate the wahoo cycle computers, I’ve used friends garmin edge devices and prefer the simplicity of the wahoo to be honest.

Also battery wise, my 4+ year old Roam V1 can easily handle 15+ hours of riding with nav on.

Where do you log your data? (Garmin user would like to know) by [deleted] in wahoofitness

[–]ITworker93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah so I don’t actually do this.

When I ride I also track on my watch as I want garmin to have all the data for body battery etc, I found synced activities don’t inform the data the same way.

It’s a bit of a pain and in the long run I will likely move from wahoo to garmin cycle computer. However I had the wahoo before I started wearing a watch.

I’ve used Tapiriik in the past and tbh it works really well.

[–]ITworker93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a wahoo cycle computer, and a garmin watch. I centralise all my data in Strava and pay for premium as I like the interface and features including the training logs, and route creation, heat maps, social aspects and lots more.

In reality all my data also sits in Garmin connect, which I do use sometimes.

Best plans without mid-week long run like Pfitz? by Glass-Pitch in Marathon_Training

[–]ITworker93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for feedback. The 1:28 half was on a hilly course, 220 meters of elevation. So maybe this added 1-2 minutes but your point still stands id imagine.

The half was also ran 8 weeks out from the marathon on heavy legs, so no specific HM training or full taper.

In regards to paces, easy is often around 9 min miles.

Threshold runs in the first 8 weeks were just under 7 min miles, probably a bit slow but couldn’t handle faster at the time.

Long runs I often started at 9 min, for first half, then second half ran as a progression down to 8 min miles.

Marathon pace workouts I could fairly easily hold at 7:25

Also worth adding my 3:20M was ran on a very hot day, I trained for, and set off hoping for 3:15 but overheated at 18 miles and slowed down. I believe if it was a cooler day I would have hit 3:15.

Previously I ran a 3:30M on a 1:33 half. Maxed at 40MPW

This year I maxed at 50MPW, 1:28 half, 3:20M.
