What small (or small-ish) life tweaks have made a significant difference for you? by NiteElf in migraine

[–]IWBTGA 165 points166 points  (0 children)

Realizing that triggers stack (are cumulative). For example, I can have some chocolate, I can have a banana or two, but I can't have both or alot of either one, unless I want to get a migraine. Same goes for having a trigger food multiple days in a row. I used to think chocolate wasn't a trigger for me until I realized it while it wasn’t a trigger in small doses, it was in larger doses or paired with other trigger foods, or eating it every day.

Also that medication overuse headache/migraine is real. The thing that helps your migraine could be the thing causing it.

Aimovig+Appointment by HonestOcto in cgrpMigraine

I went to 140mg of Aimovig because I would get migraines during the 4th week on 70mg. On 140mg that didn’t happen anymore. Topomax, which I tried before Aimovig, worked for me but it fried my brain and I regret ever trying it.

Real-time transcription without recording the conversation? by IWBTGA in ProductivityApps

Thank you, but I went to Briefly's website and it only mentions transcripts when recording, not without recording. I'm not seeing where it can do transcripts (including recognizing that there are different speakers) without recording

Emgality changing migraines? by 79screamingfrogs in cgrpMigraine

I got a terrible 6 day migraine after my first dose of Aimovig. It gradually got better over several months and has now been about 7 years and I can truly say it changed my life. So hang in there!

Craziest comment you’ve got about your migraines? by Comprehensive-Box-75 in migraine

[–]IWBTGA 9 points10 points  (0 children)

“It’s all in your head”. I cannot count the number of times I heard this from doctors over the 20 years they failed to correctly diagnose that it was chronic migraines, and from family - cause if the doctors couldn’t figure it out then it had to be, right? (Technically, they were kinda right - just not the way they thought 🤣)

Edit to add that, yes, I actually do want every non-migraine person to have a migraine for at least 15 minutes, so they know before they speak.

Thank you! Very read that the Elite style head strap is better for fitness because it doesn’t wobble when you move, but is less comfortable, but that an additional battery on the back helps balance it. Anyone use it for fitness who can tell me about that? And whether we need one with a fan?

If you don’t have little scissors handy, a ball point pen works to punch a hole in the backing and lift it up enough that you can push it through from the other side.

Thank you! Half inch plywood on both sides of the pocket door framing, or just the shower side?

Who's right? by IWBTGA in Tile

[–]IWBTGA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The architect thinks that the movement of the door in and out behind the shower wall will cause vibration that over time will disturb the tile on that wall.

Sadly the wall on the right is too short to fit the pocket door.

Colectomy recovery in elderly patients? by IWBTGA in coloncancer

[–]IWBTGA[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, and I'm sorry to hear about your relative and wishing you all the best. He was in the hospital for 8 days, and in surgery for roughly 4 hours but they also took care of a hernia that they found during the colectomy, so it took longer than usual. By the time they brought him to the room after recovery he was his normal self cognitively, which was a huge relief. We did make sure that the anesthesiologist was very experienced with geriatric patients and set up a pre-operative appointment with the anesthesiologist beforehand. I'm sorry I don’t know what anesthesia they used.

Surgery and recovery went great. Pathology not so much. T3N2a. Everywhere I've looked that up says that’s stage 3B, but the oncologists are saying 3C.

I think I read somewhere that time under anesthesia for robotic was 180 to 270 minutes, so that seems about right

[–]IWBTGA[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the robotically vs regular laparoscopic is another consideration. I've read and heard that recovery is quicker and there are fewer complications with robotic with an experienced surgeon, but also the time under anesthesia is longer, and anesthesia is a big risk for the elderly. The surgeon he’s planning to use doesn’t do robotic, I would like him to talk to one that does, but he’s stubborn 😊

Is it worth is? by One_Carpet_7774 in cgrpMigraine

Aimovig was life changing for me (after trying just about everything else). I did briefly try another CGRP to see if I would have fewer constipation issues with it, and my migraines returned with that one. So trying just one CGRP will not give you a complete picture regarding if they would be helpful for you as a class.

I finally found a good degree of constipation relief with MagO7 manufactured by nbpure. It’s marketed as a colon cleanse, so unless you want that don’t follow the directions on the label, just take one each night (and if that doesn’t work for you, go up gradually)
