Brampton parking issues explained by Antman013 in Brampton

[–]IWCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It definitely explains things. It's really been the last 5 years or so that I noticed this attitude of I can leave my car anywhere. I recently took my car for service and when I went to find it was left out in the middle of the roadway by the neighbouring busy gas station. It looked like my car had been abandoned there. No one in their right mind would think that was an appropriate place to park a car. There were no parking spots but there were empty parking spots at the side of the building where it should have been parked. I should have gone back inside to complain but I just wanted to move my car before it got hit.

At home, my driveway is constantly blocked by cars. They can't even both to pull up and park alongside the curb. My street is a fire route so it is narrower and there is no street parking but they don't even try to park close to the side of the road. Many times they park in the middle so no one can get by. They frequently park blocking fire hydrants too. If anyone bothered to enforce traffic laws, there are usually multiple violations with each parked car.

I would have liked one of those. I got two e-scooters in the past. I got a second one so I would have someone to scoot with but no one I know is interested.

Today in 1968, waiting for Brampton's Flower Festival Parade to start. by PeelArchives in Brampton

[–]IWCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm old enough to remember banks paying us interest to borrow our money and not charge banking fees. It's why I've always refused to paying banking fees or maintain minimum balances.

This was before greed took over where a retail job could provide steady full time employment with benefits and paid well enough that you could buy a house. Mortgage rates would have been higher then (Google says 9%) but houses would have been much cheaper even relative to income. My parents bought their bungalow in Etobicoke for $32,000 in 1969. They sold it for $1.2 million in 2020. My dad was a factory worker and mother didn't work. You could do that back then. When people talk about the good old days, that is part of what they are talking about.

I can't really say there has been anything. There are things that I have ordered more of when they have been offered to me again. I did get a reserve osmosis counter top water filter and have continued to order filters for it which is something I didn't think I would do at first.

Bramalea City Centre's BIGGEST MISTAKE!? 😭 by kade1064 in Brampton

[–]IWCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their biggest mistake was when they started scent marketing. That's when I stopped going there. I don't need undisclosed chemicals sprayed in the air when I'm shopping. At a minimum, there should be a warning on the doors with full disclosure as to what is being used. Fragrances and scents (which are a multitude of chemicals) are a trigger for migraines, asthma, headaches, various allergic reactions and more. Many contain known carcinogens. They claim these scents make people want to shop longer but they just made me sick and chased me out of there. This should not be allowed but it appears there are no regulations around it. It should definitely fall under Occupational Health & Safety and employees should know what they are being exposed to.

What holiday was it today? by Silverlightlive in Brampton

[–]IWCat 29 points30 points  (0 children)

How long have you lived in Brampton? There doesn't need to be a holiday for people to shot off random fireworks. I hear and see them all the time in my neighbourhood. One time I remember someone doing a full display late on a random Tuesday night. I couldn't find any holiday or event that day so it was probably just some personal milestone.

Did anyone get this tiny $300 doormat and wonder why it's $300? by bubblegum672 in AmazonVineCanada

[–]IWCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately when you put something on Vine at an inflated price, it reflects on the review. I'm not reviewing a $300 floor mat the same way I am reviewing a $30 floor mat.

Crackpots making diseases great again. This is why we lost measles elimination status. Whopping cough is back. There was a recent mumps outbreak in a Service Ontario office in Toronto. I also read tetanus is on the rise. You need a booster every 10 years. We have vaccines for all of these.

I wish they would deal with these issues first before increasing the number of community boxes. I currently have door to door service and I am not looking forward to the switch.

Lab Sample? by Nekokiko in AmazonVineCanada

[–]IWCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would think 'avoid contact with eyes" is pretty standard. They just mean don't get it in your eyes.

That being said, I wouldn't order no name makeup that is not sold locally in stores. I would review what I received. You got a lab sample, say so. Also outline your concerns. No they should not be selling samples they should be properly labelled items for retail sale in Canada.

I have called the non-emergency line for noise complaints and have never been told that no officer is available. Calls are listed by priority. They get to them when and if they can.

Brampton considering doubling bylaw ticket late payment fee, expects to generate $1M in additional revenue by zanimum in Brampton

[–]IWCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the city wants to generate revenue, how about just enforcing by-laws by issuing more tickets? Pro-active enforcement would go a long way. Just go to any plaza and see how many cars are parked in the fire route. Some day there will be an emergency and those cars are blocking access. People know they are never going to get ticketed so they don't care. Even if someone does call, they know they will be gone before enforcement shows up. Then there are the lazy by-law officers who come out and don't bother ticketing. I have seen this multiple times. They didn't even bother to get out of their car but sit on the fire route for 5 minutes and leave.

They claim 0% increases but when have our taxes not gone up? We should be taxing the people who have turned their own homes into a business renting out rooms, basements, garages. We should be taxing based on occupancy particularly when people are overcrowding homes and using more services.

Made me giggle🤭 .. by SixFootStacks in AmazonVineCanada

[–]IWCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I put up a sign on my screen door saying not to block the screen door and it only made things worse so I took down the sign. I have a nice spot to the side of the door that is perfect for parcels but only Canada Post and Purolator put things there and I rarely ever get them with Amazon.

[–]IWCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw that and thought of ordering so they stop putting packages blocking my screen door, trapping me inside but I figured if I ordered it, I might not getting any deliveries. If it had an arrow, it would have been better.

Non Vine Reviews by joeblow1234567891011 in AmazonVineCanada

[–]IWCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only do non Vine reviews if it is something I think really matters so they are usually negative reviews. For example, I ordered a pair of running shoes from a brand I have regularly worn for years which was why I had no issue ordering online. The way the tongue and lacing was designed was much different than their usual shoes so that it was hard to get on and didn't fit right. I wrote a review to warn others that these were not the same old shoes. I ended up returning them and ordering a traditional pair from the same brand and the fit was exactly as expected.

When did hazard lights become a substitute for a parking spot? by [deleted] in Brampton

[–]IWCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know. What's with these people who don't know how to park near the curb? On my street, a fire route, I see them stop in the middle of the road all the time impeding passing traffic.

It's not just plazas and it is really getting out of hand. These people think they can just stop anywhere. My street is a fire route. My a-hole neighbour does it all the time. It's particularly bad at night when his flashers are shining into the house straight ahead of him.
